Everyone dumping on these please note that the Excel series are made in Korea, whereas the cheaper Premier series are made in Indonesia. There are some quality and material differences. Be sure you are playing an Excel model, and not a Premier! I have the Excel EXL-1 and the woodworking seems first rate. I cannot find a flaw. It came with a hard case, not a gig bag. I did have some trouble with a pot failing, so in my experience the weak point is the electronics/wiring. But the Excel series is a great line of guitars for the price, and an even better value on sale!

Have an EXL-1 as a working jazz guitar and it works well for me. It feels playable and I don't have to worry about a $3000+ guitar sitting around unattended at my gigs. I really like the neck shape for jazz guitar. It may not have the best acoustic-only sound, but it sounds pretty decent through an amp. Mine had an issue with the pickguard mounting, but it was a minor adjustment. I use flatwound 12's, and I like the action probably a bit higher than most, so no fret buzz for me.

The slide sounds of the roundwound bass strings are very unpleasant for the clean sounds. Here, flat wounds would be much more appropriate.

Flat wounds on the Excel EX 1 makes all the difference. Authentic jazz guitar for a fraction of the price.

That EX-SS is a bit too bright for me. Maybe if it had a mahogany back and sides, and maybe a spruce top, it would sound so much better.

Ha. I'd guess you're also the kind of guy who would rather pay $3,000 for something with Gibson or Fender written on it, than $1,000 for something that feels, plays, sounds and generally is acres better than the designer-brand coffee tables that too many people are still buying today.

Games For One Premier. Slick deals keeps a record of these deals. (Usually). Try searching up on slick deals “D’Angelico exl-1”. But yes, I believe Gregory is referring to the Premier.

It's a relatively cheap guitar with a laminated top and laminated sides, and the frets are cheap soft material. Go ahead and play it aggressively for several minutes then check the frets under good light. You WILL see many scratches due to the soft metal used. Typical Korean offerings. Ok at best at the price point. No surprises there. There are dozens of offerings similar to this now on the market under many names, all are not that well built, no surprise, you get what you pay for.
@ron9808 жыл бұрын
He says they're made in Korea right here 0:20. "We've got two of the Korean guitars to show you this afternoon." There are some expensive ones made in the US, but these are not it.
