Then good news; you can work on the bend for a few weeks and bend as well as Guthrie, maybe not as wide, but most of his (or anyone's) bends are between the range of zero and a whole step, occasionally a minor third, and rarely a major 3rd, but if you take the most useful ones; whole and half steps, then you certainly can do them as well as GG. I'm not saying anything about being as good as him overall because obviously that's nearly impossible. I'm just saying don't go overboard with the admiration to the point where you have a mystique built in your mind that every note he plays is always better than your own best sounding note: that's just false and approaching an unhelpful level of hero worship. Oops, just noticed how ancient your comments are. Oh well, in case you still feel that way, I'm going to go ahead and let it stay. Just don't complain about how old it is because I don't always check the dates.

I believe what you are trying to suggest is speech lessons taught by Guthrie... and I imagine he would have an incredibly sarcastic ‘lesson’ response to your comment. “Here’s how to talk, move your upper lip and lower lip in opposite direction while using your voice box to say a word... congratulations now you have ‘talked’.” LOL I don’t say this to be a joke, I only say this because I met him after an Aristocrats show in Nashville and we had a good conversation and he was probably the MOST sarcastic person I have ever met! A large percentage of the population like cheesy mass produced music and then the rest splinter into tiny fragments and go out and find quality music that's specific to their desires. Leave the brainwashed to their Simon Cowell noise pollution because the rest of us will always know where to find what we're looking for.

Guthrie is grounded in the classic blues-rock stuff (Hendrix, BB King, Cream, Jeff Beck, SRV, The Beatles). He's got that organic and blues flavor in his playing. That's what sets him apart from his wannabe peers. Most people often go on about the technical and flashy-side of his playing.
