Good lesson. Man Ive been studying blues for ages and this is the first lesson which clearly explains how the licks fit over the chord progressions. I knew a gazillion licks but never quite understood how to place them. In context it may help students to understand that the Amin pentatonic lick over the 1V chord is actually a type of "key change" - { in this case playing Amin is Dorian mode playing out of G maj which fits over the D7 which is myxolidian of G
@rogeliogauvin23887 жыл бұрын

After learning about 80% of the neck in blues and pentatonic, this lesson was the most valuable I've ever had. The overlap of the 2nd form minor and 4th form major as well as the 1 fret spacing on 2nd minor/2nd major forms allows me to have at least 1 more beer at the next gig. :-) Also worth noting for your title that Brain Setzer does this a ton in his songs!

Just a question please, i notice your first 5 licks work perfectly on the 2 first bars of the 12 bars. Then Lick 6 covers bars 5 and 6 . What about bars 3 and 4, when we keep A7 for the 2 bars ? Do you make the exact thing penta maj/min that you do on the first 2 bars? I guess there is at least one bar where it is better to rest, leaving a space? This is something that kills my solo since i don't get the rule ...Thank you!

It should really be mentioned on the first lick, and others, that there is a lead in partial bar( measure, for Americans)I bet some are confused because of that.For example, the second bar starts with the 5th fret to 8th fret hammer on.

Clarification needed! Now, I have read that when moving to the four chord ( D here) f# ( the 3rd of the chord) is a great note to target. But, A minor Pent Scale doesn't contain a f#...what gives?

Great Lesson !!! So you play major or minor during 5 chord ?
@GuitarLickDojo7 жыл бұрын
In the turnaround you start on the 1 chord and end on the 5. So start off on the major, and then land on something that goes well with the 5 - you can just land on a good chord tone - like the root. You can do minor over the 5 - the last two beats. You can get away with a lot over the 5 though, not just minor.
@faymous997 жыл бұрын
I see that you have some licks for turn around at end :) .. Excellent lesson. Can you suggest a good backing track to practice licks on ?

Does it take some overdrive to give the fast licks that flowing feeling? Any other pedals help?
@GuitarLickDojo7 жыл бұрын
I'm not using much overdrive here. The flowing feeling comes from good hammer and pull off technique. You have to play each note for as long as possible and have them bleed into each other. If you don't do this, even overdrive won't help much.
@mr.jogger83467 жыл бұрын
Btw, do you post the licks to print them out?
@christophed73559 ай бұрын
Good job! Except the key ain't A when you play am penta (C major key). A major penta is in the key of A. The confusion is easy because of many common notes with A maj and C major.
