Why are the 1, 4, and 5 major, the 2, 3, and 6 minor, and the 7 diminished?
@kingsodacrabs7074
@kingsodacrabs7074 Ай бұрын
It's the way the notes fall. Let's stay in Cmajor. The 1 chord of C(A.k.a C) has a major third (D#) meaning the note that is a "major third away" or the third note in the scale is a major interval. But If you play the two chord (B) it has a minor third (E) meaning the third note away relative to the 2 chord is a minor interval. (Intervals are the distance between notes) I hope this helps!!!

Oh and the 7 is diminished because it has a diminished 5 meaning the 5 is ine note short of where it is in all other scales making it unique

Major vs minor is just intervals that change the texture. Major tends to sound happy and minor tends to sound sad (in simple terms). Technically, major scales have a whole step between the second and third note as well as between the sixth, and seventh whereas minor scales lower those notes by a half step. A major chord therefore uses the first, third and fifth notes and a minor chord would just make the third note a half step lower

Because when building a chord on the seventh note of the major scale you end up with a chord that has a minor 3rd and a diminished 5th.

Basically if the third is flat, it becomes minor, if both iii and V are flat it's diminished. Taking major chords as reference. Then comes the dom seventh and other crazier chords

Every major scale has the same notes in it, the only difference would be the minor progressions and placement? If I’m wrong, please correct me.
@willrushton5579
@willrushton5579 Ай бұрын
No major scales do not have the same notes. There is overlap, but they change for every half step you take. Every major scale does share the same notes with a minor scale though. Known as relative minor. C majors notes are the same as A minor. F majors is D minor etc. so you really only need to know 12 scales because youre actually learning two of them when learning one.

@theshield2207

@@drakenone4063the key is pretty much the chord or note that is often used in the song or progression. But it could depend as well because in that progression or song if that note is only used 1 or 2 times but the other notes that are in that key are used more often it would still be in key of the note that was used only 1 or 2 times. Like in the key of G. The chords are G, A minor, B minor, C, D, E minor and F# diminished. Once you learn these keys you can start creating and doing your own songs. Also these keys help you to jam with other musicians if a song is in a certain key look for the scale of that key and you improvise solos or play the solo of the song you are jamming too

Relative minors. They follow the major throughout no matter what their placement
@drakenone4063
@drakenone4063 2 ай бұрын
@opalmoonroper thanks, for the answer, but I'm still not sure what this means? "Follow the majors." Is there a reason for this, or is it just something you learn and replicate? One of my flaws is needing to know why for everything, makes learning things take 10 times as long as most people just remember and replicate without ever understanding why they are doing it.

@@drakenone4063 look up a key chart. Example: key of G, the 1 is the G and the 6minor is the Em. the 4 is C, and the 2 minor is Am, The 5 is D and the 3 minor is Bm. Now look at the C key The corresponding minor to the C ( now a 1) is the Am ( now a 6m) and so forth. It's much easier to visualize when it's written out.

The chords come from skipping over a note in the scale. C major scale: C D E F G A B C C: C E G Dm: D F A Em: E G B F: F A C G: G B D Am: A C E B°: B D F G major would be: G, Am, Bm, C, D, Em, F#°

@@lauri4887 I still dont understand how to know if the chord is going to be minor or major, well if the 2nd 3rd and 6th are always minor when youre using a major scale, that would be cool to know, i get what you saud about skipping the notes.but how does skipping over the notes as you showed tell you if the note/ chord is minor or major.
@lauri4887
@lauri4887 2 ай бұрын
@@eddieisgreat5150 The chord is made of three notes: the root, the third and the fifth. For example a C major chord: C = root, E = 3rd, G = 5th. The distance from C to E is a major third, which is equal to 4 half-steps. The distance from C to G is a perfect fifth, which is 7 half-steps. Root + major 3rd + perfect 5th = major chord. Minor chords have a minor 3rd instead of a major 3rd. A minor 3rd is 3 half-steps, 1 less than a major 3rd. So a C minor chord would be the notes C, Eb, G.

@@eddieisgreat5150 Dude the notes n the major scale are the ones you use to make the chord..For example,a D minor chord is made up of the notes D F A..If there isnt an F in the scale,but theres a F sharp then the chord would be major.
