My HD 500X is acting weird, so I have decided to go back to Boss, [have this GT100 coming today] which I had a GT4, 6, 8, can't remember,, but I have to get this pedal up and gig ready PDQ, hoping they have some presets which will get me quick started. Man I love these processors but sometimes they are a never ending bend over and tweak. I will keep watching the vids. Rock til you drop!

Greetings, Watzline! Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! Aaah, I see, that's a bummer.. I'm most sure the GT-100 will do everything you need! I've had it for many years and it's a true workhorse! I would really recommend creating your own patches, instead of going through the Factory Presets.. To be honest, they are really bad... too much of everything, really... The real gold, in any processor, is found when creating your own presets. Also, it would be important to get the GT-100 properly set-up, before you decide to dive in... I'm thinking about: 1. Deciding how to wish to use the GT-100 with your gear and equipment. Whether you want to use the GT-100 for its effects only, along with your own amplifier, or if you wish to have the GT-100 do all the processing - both effects and its onboard preamps/cabinets. 2. Selecting the proper Output Select option. 3. Performing the Input Calibration for the GT-100 - this ensures that your guitar, and its pickups, is not sending too hot of a signal, causing the GT-100's input to clip/distort.. 4. When creating patches, always make sure to keep your effect, gain and volume levels somewhat matched with the remaining things you have going on in your patches. Too much gain/volume, will cause issues and can really muddy up a good patch... Let me know if you need any help with this, I'd be happy to assist. It's an important process, so getting it right is key! Best regards & Cheers.

@@GuitarNTabs How nice of you for the advice! In the past I have set up my guitar processors with a left to right clean to distortion type pattern, on each patch, or add chorus second, delay next etc. to standardize it all. I try to keep the amp in neutral, clean, bypassing the amps effects altogether, letting the pedalboard do the work. Iv'e been thru this before, and know that all these processors [even had Digitech] are set up for easy editing, but one can get lost in the minutia, but once you catch on, ya' just get it going. But I know that sometimes we can be happy with a created patch, but one more step, or a missed additional move, results in an 8 when it could have been 10,, It would be nice if the manufactures had informative, concise resources available, but they do give you some guidance, and we just have to put the time into the unit. Or rely on guys like you, more Tech Savvy, and learn from You! LOL! The customer support guys at Line 6, expected me to call daily, which I did, asking How To questions. LOL! Just got the news the delivery has been delayed, was hoping to get started today. I probably will be in touch! Thanks, Kenny

@@GuitarNTabs Well I received the GT100, today, and after a couple of hours I have several things that I do not like, primarily the screen Icons look cheap and hard to understand. You were right in saying the presets are all kind of crappy. I will contact Boss, and hopefully they have support you can actually talk to, like Line 6 does. I know the GT100 can be set up the way I would like it, with pedal one being the patch, and pedals 2, 3, 4, being effects. I have spent lots of time reading comments, and felt that the GT 100 would be a good choice, as many users recommended it. I know it will take some time, but feel that being familiar with the Line 6, would be my best choice, just get another HD500X. I will give it some time, but feel that just returning it would be less work, and headache, Thanks

@@Watzline - Hey! Yeah, there might be some differences, compared to the HD500X, but that's to be expected, but I hear you. Again, another most excellent vid. Thanks. ----- [1] --- [a] The GT-100 might not be perfect. It might not sound perfect. However, for guitars for about a mere $400-500 or so with a GT-100, one can get darn good foot pedals of every stripe & get other guitar simulations effects in any order, volume, mix, & anything else one can think of. --- [b] Maybe, a Line 6 or some other brand of multi-effects might be better than a GT-100. However, the GT-100 seems to be pretty darn good enough. However, someone, please, blather & let us know about some of the other guitar multi-effects units & how they compare to the GT-100. It's good to gain knowledge. ----- [2] I send my GT-100 into a Fender Champ 20 amp (that's why microphones were invented - to get the guitar into the house mix), with the Champ 20 set to zero tone settings. All my guitar tone comes from the GT-100. My Champ 20 is my personal monitor for my guitar & is the medium, with a mic, by which I send my guitar to the house mix. ----- [3] I wish that the GT-100 were available when the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan, 50 plus years ago. (Yeah, Ted Nugent & I are that old, 69.) If the GT-100 were around when the Beatles-lead British Invasion occurred, over the decades, I could have save thousands of dollars on guitar effects pedals & on various heavy, back-breaking amps. Nowadays for gigs, all one needs is two guitars (strings break), one light as a feather Champ 20, a small vocal monitor, a mic & mic stand, & a GT-100. Life is sooo good for us oldsters. :) Thanks, Richard

Hey there! Of course, you're always welcome to ask question 😊 Hmm, it's hard for me to tell exactly.. I would suggest that you look at the patch you have, where the effect is working, and looking at the different Assigns, especially for the Exp Pedal. Then copy the settings, and that should do it. If not, then you can always write the patch to another User location, as a copy, and change the settings, for the new patch. That would do the same. I hope this helps. Best regards.

Great video, just one question. Let's say that on the "top effects chain" after the amp I want to have an overdrive and delay, and on the "second (down) effect chain" after the amp I want to have a different delay and pitch shifter. Is that possible? Can you assign multiple effects to each of the chains or is it fixed to only accommodate one amp and one NS per chain? I believe what I am saying is having parallel effect chains, but having the freedom to assign a lot of effects to each chain.
@GuitarNTabs3 жыл бұрын
Hello, Nick. Thank you, and thanks for watching. Yes, that is possible. You would simply have to move the different effects around, so they appear in the desired spot. Also yes, you can use the Assigns to control the different effects and parameters within the different chains. You might have to change the settings for the Divider and Mixer, also found in the Signal Chain. Take a closer look at that. I hope this helps. Let me know what you find out. Cheers.

@GuitarNTabs7 жыл бұрын
Hey Ethan. Thanks for your comment! Well, have you selected the proper OUTPUT SELECT? Also, are the onboard preamps from the GT-100 turned off? Another thing to consider is to Input Calibrate the GT-100, if you haven't already done so. Search for 'Boss GT-100 Input Calibration' here on KZbin and you'll see a video. Well, first off it's very important that your amp is set up the way you like it. You're using the amp's clean channel, so spend a little time dialing in the clean sound you want. From there you can always bring in the onboard OD/DS from the GT-100, and start tweaking those - by using the TONE and BOTTOM parameter, within the OD/DS section. I'm very fond of the T-Scream overdrive, and it provide great tones for blues and rock. The Clean Boost isn't bad either, but it would be a good idea to go through the OD/DS stomps, and see which ones suits your amplifier best. Try that and see what happens. Let me know! Cheers! :-)
@MontyDeane7 жыл бұрын
One thing I have realized id if your going to use a clean channel or dirty channel on your amp, you need to disable the preamps in the gt-100, so your not combining the jumbled sounds together. Also, are you using the send/returns on your amp?
@danbudai83606 жыл бұрын
Hi, what type of amp are you using and what type of guitar and pickups? Thanks for the helpful review.

Hey there, Dan. Thanks for your comment and question - I appreciate it :-) I mainly use the onboard preamps and cabinets from the GT-100/GT-1, along with the onboard effects and such :-) It's a compact and excellent sounding solution. I mainly use the Clean Twin preamp model, and match it with the 2x12" cabinet setting. That is able to give me a clear and punchy clean sound. From there I tend to add some compression, reverb, little overdrive (the T-Scream model) and some delay. I might also add some chorus/flanger, if I need some ambient patches :-) My main guitar at the moment is a Telecaster, equipped with one humbucker in the bridge position. Sometimes I also use a Strat, with a humbucker in the bridge and two single coils for the middle and neck :-) I think that covers the most of it :-) Are you looking for something particular, Dan? I'd be more than happy to help out, so just let me know. Have a great day! Cheers.

@@GuitarNTabs thanks for the prompt reply. Didn't thought it will go so fast. Bottomline, I borrowed a GT100 to see if it suits my needs and for the moment I can say it does. Considering my musical level time and budget. I have a fully loaded pedalboard which is breaking my back and finding the right pedals is a huge gamble since reviews on the net do not have my amp and strat. So as insane as it may sound to some I wanna sell some of the pedals and gove it a go with the gt100. Built my sound around your presentation and it works well. I am looking for a clean base sound and TS9 drive. The tight kinda drive. Gilmour kinda sound (I know...but thats what I want) I have some troubles asigning the Accl pedal to be the global bpm pedal. I might get back to you with questions. Thanks Dan

Hey again, Dan. You are very welcome, I'm always here to help out and answer questions - just fire away. I can imagine your situation, and it seems that more and more players are trying these things out, which is great. I've been there myself, so I know both the struggle and aspects, going through all this. To me it doesn't sound insane at all, but for other players it might... I've been there! Anyway, it's not their sound, but YOUR sound and feel, that's all! If I may, then I would highly recommend using the GT-100 for both effects and preamps/cabinets. I believe that will give you a more consistent result, but it's up to you - just my thought :-) I know the sound/tone you're looking for, and it's possible to achieve exactly that. I generally like to use the Clean Twin preamp, with the cabinet set to 2x12" and then add in the T-Scream overdrive. Perhaps adjust the drive of the T-Scream, add some compression and some delay/reverb - all good to go, trust me! Gilmour is excellent, and what a great sound/tone to go by and get close to - I support that :-) I have a video, or two, about setting up the bpm settings, so if you haven't, then please check it out :-) If it doesn't help, then please come back with further questions :-) Let me know what you think, Dan. Love your training. I am having difficulty with the volume. It seems that all your patches have a level to the volume. Many times I hit a peddle and it is so loud that I am concerned that if I am playing live when pressing the peddle I will blow the place away. How do I adjust the volume so that all the patches are one level?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey there, Don. Thank you very much for your question and comment - I appreciate it :-) You're right, I do have a level for my volume and patches. Trust me, I've been where you're at, and at that time it became really frustrating, because everything was too loud and didn't sound all that good... I decided to do something about it, and this is what I do, these days: I use the GT-100 direct, which means that I'm either running it through my studio monitors or my band's PA/Mixer. This also means that I'm using the GT-100's preamps and cabinets, along with its effects. In order to keep a consistent level(s) I mainly stick to using one amplifier - in this case the Clean Twin preamp - since that is producing the loudest signal, atleast to me. Most of the other preamp sims will produce a drop in volume, but I find that the Clean Twin doesn't. The sound/level/volume that the Clean Twin produces are my target level - the level I will match all other effects, preamps, cabinets to, each time I add in new ones. I generally use my studio dB-meter to monitor all this, which makes it all a lot easier, but before that I just used my ears. The point is to do all this while you're at rehearsals with your band, since this is the context you want to use it in, and it will produce the best results. Having your patches, effects and preamps matched in level will really increase the overall quality of your sound and tone with the GT-100. I didn't believe it, but it really did - and I'm so happy with it! There's a lot to this topic, but it's all worth it, really. Let me know what you think about this, and let me know if you need anything! We can easily work this out, no problem :-) Have a great day Cheers.

Hey bro, im trying to wrap my head around the use of 2 amps, so I can get a blended scenario. Problem is that I am not sure how to use the assigns to control each amp? Might you be able to shed some light on that? I know your using a PA system, but you seem to have a good knowledge of the gt100. Glenn Delaune said I should be able to do it using my assigns but I havnt a clue how. He gets back to you eventually but hes a very busy musician, so I dont expect a response for some time. Im currently using the 4cm and there is the right side output that is unused from the gt100, making it stereo if I use both, but what confuses me is daisy chaining the 2 amps using the send/returns on both amps? What I envision is using both as needed for my pink floyd stuff, then switching one amp off, using the dirty channel, and then switching ogg the marshall, to my my fischman for clean or both. Seems rather complex. Maybe you have a thought or 2 on the subject or concept?
@GuitarNTabs7 жыл бұрын
Hey Monty! Thanks for your question - I highly appreciate you coming to me! I'll do my very best to help you out! First off - are you talking about the onboard preamps in the GT-100? Or something else? I would like to have that cleared up first :-) Yes, I am using the GT-100 directly to my band's PA, when I play live. It sounds great that way, and the preamps onboard the GT-100 is superb! Let me know, before I can continue :-) Cheers!
@MontyDeane7 жыл бұрын
Actually no, I use the send/return which is bypassing the preamps on the gt100. I am using the 4cm (4 cable method) to my marshall DSL40C (#1), using the send and returns of the amp. So in essence I am using the true distorted tone of the amp rather than using the preamp tones. And using the gt100 for the effects and special features. Using the 4cm method truly makes my system so sweet sounding. Now, Since I have asked this question, I used my second amp (#2) for blending to get the killer stereo effect and internally in the gt100 pan left and right in the patches to produce that great stereo effect. How I accomplish that I simply use the right side output of the gt100 and run it into the input of my second #2 amp. However its just producing the right output sounds on that amp. I would like that second amp to function like the first one, depending when I want to trigger it. Sound is awesome but I think I should be able to use it even more to my advantage. I am wondering if I can use the 4cm method using both of the amp send and returns on both of the amps in a chain, so I can tell the desired patches, use the #1 amp on the clean channel in this patch for song intro, and when I go to the lead switch, use the other amp on the dirty channel and allow both amps to utilize the effects through the send and returns. So I guess the send and returns would run in a chain. i can visualize it but not sure if it can be done. I believe I will needs more cables as well. What are your thoughts?

I don't know if there's a software for it, but otherwise you would just have both units with you, and copy things from there. Try that, and see what happens. Let me know how it goes. Best wishes Cheers.

Everyone please forgive my ignorance? I want to try this FX return thing but still do not really understand how this is done? Not the 4cable method. I want to know how to use the FX return to use just the clean power amp part of an amp? I have 2 Jetcity jca50h amp heads. I have 2 2x12 cabinets. Sooo If I want to do this in stereo, the out puts L and R of the GT100 will go to the FX returns of each amp? Does this mean you bypass the front knobs of the amps except the master volume knob? Someone please share thi secret with me? LOL I must know! Thanks
@GuitarNTabs5 жыл бұрын
Hey there, Leonard 😊 Thanks for your comment and question - I appreciate it! You are correct - if you have two amps then you would take both the L and R outputs and connect them to the two separate FX Loop Returns on your amps. Depending on the type of amp, you might have some of the EQ and channel knobs being bypassed, but you should have a dedicated level for the FX loop, so use that do adjust the volume. I hope this helps - if not, then let me know. I'll await your reply. Best regards.

Awesome information. Thank you for writing back so soon. I didn't expect that. The funny thing is I've been playing since I was seven, and I am now a young 58-year-old man. I should know this stuff. lol. I have been a country and southern gospel guitar player for all this time. However, in the last five years, our church has gone the way of contemporary worship, which requires a lot of effects to match the original artist sounds. I am a little ignorant of the workings of the effect peddles. Your videos are really helping me. Let me ask you this. When designing a patch, where do I adjust the volume or level? Is it the master knob in the patch setting or is it in the EQ? Or perhaps do I set it another way? Again. Thank you for your reply.

Hey there, Don! Thanks for your comment and question - I greatly appreciate it! Well, I try to keep updated with questions and comments, so you're welcome. I'm always here, if you need help, have requests or questions. Nice, you've been at it a good long time - that's great! Keep it up :-) Well, knowing all this stuff is something you'll stumble across, at some point - atleast that's what happened to me :-) Thanks for your kind words, I appreciate it! Well, when I design a patch, I start by selecting the preamp sim I wish to use, since I'm using the GT-100 for both effects and preamps/cabinets. The desired preamp sim I tend to use, is the Clean Twin, which I've measured to have a nice target level. The target level being the level I match the remaining effects/preamps to - whenever I add a new one to the signal chain. So I start with the proper level, which is pretty easily dialed in, coming from the preamp sim, and when I need more volume, at a gig, for example, then I use the OUTPUT LEVEL, on the right hand side of the unit - which is basically the Master Volume. Often you can set the Patch Level knob to the desired level you want, but I wouldn't really use it like that. I would start by establishing a proper level from the preamp, amplifier, etc. you are using, and the match the remaining effects, etc. to that. It will help you keep the signal chain more "clean" and help to prevent any uncontrolled gain stages. Too much gain, or too much going on, can have an impact on the patch and its sound quality. Let me know what you think about this, and please ask further questions, if you want. This is quite a big topic, and it requires some patience, but trust me, it's all well worth it in the end! Looking forward to hear from you. Best regards Cheers.

Is it possible to assign 2 different Reverbs and have them separate? Anytime I set two Reverbs and switch one on, they both come one.
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
You can set up an assign which will toggle between two reverbs, if that's what you're referring to? Is that what you mean by separate? :-) Let me know - that'll help me answer your question as best as possible :-) Cheers.
@TheSunBurnsBright6 жыл бұрын
GuitarNTabs That is exactly what I mean! I want one pedal to be a Hall Reverb and another to be an Ambience reverb 🤘
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Then you would simply have to go to your first available assign, and select what CTL-switch you want to assign the reverbs to, and then make sure assign category is set to TYPE instead of ON/OFF. When the category is set to TYPE, then you can set up a Minimum and a Maximum. The Minimum target is the reverb you want to start with, in this case the Hall reverb, and the Maximum target would be the reverb you want to switch to - the ambient one. :-) Makes sense? :-) Cheers.

Fantastic, I'm pleased to here that! Yes, that is the same with delays, etc. Once you've set the category to TYPE, in that particular assign set-up, then you can always use the Minimum and Maximum parameters to switch between two reverbs, delays, etc. It's a great feature, especially if you need more things happening on your patch! :-) Niice, man! @GuitarNTabs2 жыл бұрын
Hi. First, let me know how you use the GT-100 with your amp. Do you use the GT-100 for its effects only, and then your own amp? Or, do you use both the GT-100's effects and preamp models, along with your own amp? Let me know and I'd be able to assist you further. Cheers.
@alejandrojuarez29752 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarNTabs I use both at same time. Boss Gt-100 and Fender Amp (New) with its FX off mode.
@GuitarNTabs2 жыл бұрын
@@alejandrojuarez2975 - That's the reason. In general, when using your own external amplifier, you should never use the GT-100's preamp models at the same time... Think about it, this basically means that you have two different amps/preamps running at the same time... Different EQ settings, different gain levels, different volume levels, etc. It's going to be a big mess, and especially when adding in even more gain, like an overdrive or distortion pedal, or even taking that overdrive or distortion into Solo. I would suggest that you decide whether you want to use the GT-100 for both its effects and preamp models, or your own amp with the GT-100's effects only. Another thing that is really important, is the Output Select. Make sure that it is set to match the amp, or equipment, you're using, for the best result. If you want to make use of both your own amp, and the GT-100's, then consider the 4 Cable Method - that is, if your amp has an Effects Loop. Let me know what you think. Best regards.
@alejandrojuarez29752 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarNTabs that’s what I meant. Use my amp with boss pedal’s effects only. I use mono/L from my pedal to plug it into Regular input connection from my amp. Amp model (Fender Champion 100) Never heard about 4 cable connections 🙈
@GuitarNTabs2 жыл бұрын
@@alejandrojuarez2975 - Aha, thanks for clearing that up! First of all, make sure that you have dialed in your amp, so that it sounds the way you want it to. Whether that's clean, on the edge of break-up or overdriven, that's up to you. For me personally, I like to dial in an amp so it's just on the edge of break-up, which means it has a slight bit of punch and dirt to it, without being overdriven or distorted. Then I like to add in the GT-100's effects, such as the T-Scream overdrive, to really boost and kick the amp further into overdrive. Also, make sure to dial in the GT-100's effects properly, so they're not adding huge amounts of gain or volume to your sound, because that will quickly ruin any good sounding patch. 4 Cable Method lets you get "best of both worlds", meaning, you can use your own amp, but also the GT-100's preamp models, since the GT-100 has an Effects Loop. This only works, if your amp has an Effects Loop too. There are many videos about the 4 Cable Method, here on KZbin, so you can always check it out. I hope this helps. Let me know what you think. Cheers.

How can you add or delete effect pedals on your fx chain? I mean between divider and mixer or in another chain place. I need to erase or add whatever I want but I don't know how to do it!. Thank you!
@GuitarNTabs7 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Jose! :-) Thanks for your comment and nice to hear from you. Thank you very much, for your kind words, I'm very happy that my videos are helping you! Regarding your question, then here's how you do it: To manage all the effects and such, press the EFFECT-button, and that will take you into the signal chain of the GT-100. In the lower part of the two LCD screens, right above the numbered knobs, you can see what each knob does. Use the knob that displays SELECT to scroll through the different effects and the knob that displays ON/OFF to turn on or off the effect. Use the knob that displays MOVE to move the different effects around, within the whole signal chain. Whenever you scroll to the FX-1 and FX-2 there will be a knob that displays TYPE, and that will let you scroll through the different effects within those block :-) Does this make sense? If not, then let me know! Cheers! :-)
@josemorueta16567 жыл бұрын
Ok, So the numbers of icon pedals you see are the complete number of icon pedals you got to use!, and then you can move wherever you want. But notice you have only a DLY pedal with many differents delays on it and you can't put a second DLY pedal on preamp B (for example) as the same way you have TWO Noise gates (NS1 y NS2). In the case you need a second delay in the second preamp you got to use the SUB DELAY and it's not the same... Anyway, thank you for your quickly response bro!
@josemorueta16567 жыл бұрын
Oh.... it's silly what I've written to you now. If you need DLY pedal in both preamps, you can take the DLY pedal out of the chain and you got it!!! hahaha. Not a good day for me!!! hahaha
@GuitarNTabs7 жыл бұрын
Hi! No no, it's not silly at all :-) Let me tell you something: You have the specific DLY block, but then in FX-1 and FX-2 you have the option to select another delay, and even one more, if you use both delays from FX-1 and FX-2. They are called Sub Delay in the menu. If you check the Boss GT-100 Parameter Guide - search for that online - then you'll see all the effects and parameters :-) But as you've said yourself, then simply place the delay out of the two preamps, and then they'll get the same delay :-) Hope this helps! I'll be happy to help out more, if you need it :-)

I have and I am using the 4cm. Clearly the best way to go. I too started just outputing mono to my amp input, then tried the 2 cable method to my return on the amp, and that made it even better. Then I discovered the 4cm. This is clearly the best option for me and works great. What it allows, is you to use the true crunch of your amplifier if you want to without using the od's on the gt100. And also allows you to use the gt100 for the other functionalities, and effects. So, use the great sound of your amp for its tones, and using the gt100 for the effects applied to that tone of the amp. Truly wonderful! For most of the newbies, tha capabilities of the gt100 are overwhelming., but as a growing musician, there is nothing better in my book. Enjoy!
