1:18 hippie: "You mean you actually don't dig Jesus Christ Superstar?" Archie: "Jesus Christ I dig and I dug him a long time before you weirdos turned him into a superstar!"" Fantastic clash of old and new embracing the same thing in different ways. One of the greatest lines in TV sitcom history.

Actually, neither one of them is correct. Archie sees CHRIST as legalistic. Archie thinks he is a Christian because he lives in America, supports his family, and fought for his country. The hippies mistakenly believe that CHRIST's battle with the legalists of His day makes Him a liberal socialist.

Unfortunately most churches are more interested in turnout and the revenue it brings than staying true to Christ's message. In particular, they know that today's woman expects to be told that everything she does is empowering and good, and she won't bring her fatherless children to hear otherwise.

Applause to Carroll O'Connor, all the great supporting actors, the writers, and Norman Lear, of course. Interviewed in the Los Angeles Times, 2009, he 'offered a measured assessment of the impact of shows like 'All in the Family' had on society. 'I can't honestly say I can see anywhere we changed anything. But what I have are thousands of memories of people relating to me that we made them talk. And, you know, the funny thing is, people are still talking." Mr. Lear could have also added "made them think." And that's what we need right now, people thinking and talking to each other.
