This is a bit lengthy, but bare with me; this isn't bashing anyone or any product. Just a real life scenario. Back in 2012 when I was stationed at Bolling AFB I was chatting with a naval researcher at the navy research lab (it's attached to the base in dc) we were talking guns and I told him I had an Enfield, that peaked his interest because he then told me this. Apparently that spring there was a platoon of marines that were pinned down by a half dozen insurgents armed with No 4 Mk1 Enfield rifles. The insurgents had the marines pinned down over 600 meters away volleying in .303 rounds on their position using iron sights. the marines tried returning fire but the 5.56 is really only good out to 400 meters so they were limited in what they could do, especially when the enemy had the high ground; which they did. The only way the marines made it out was due to an attack helicopter that came into save them blew up the bad guys. The researcher telling me that the military at that time was trying to figure ways to counter the enemy armed with these rifles and find a different angle on tactics when we encountered situations like this on the battlefield today when CAS may not be an option; eh sorta today now that quite some time has passed. I guess the take way from this is that, sometimes the old stuff isn't always that bad.

Lesson learned- I have my own range on my farm and over the years I’ve hosted dozens of guests. 95% of my visitors would bring their entire arsenal or most of it. When it came to shooting skill they were at best fair but mostly poor shooters. I also would bring several of my favorites and put 25-50 rds through each of them and could out shoot pretty much all of them ( I had my own range, right). One day I met Chip and Arnold at the local gun store, after discovering that we had many mutual acquaintances I invited them to shoot with me. To my surprise they each showed up with one gun. Glock 19 and 1911 in 9 mm, I brought my top five show off guns. They suggested that we do some drills and that’s when it got ugly, I had to decide which gun I was going to use, they obviously didn’t. After extensive shooting for speed and accuracy at close range I realized that these guys were serious competition shooters. One drill was taking turns shooting at an 18” steel target starting at 25 yds. After each rd everyone takes 5 paces back. If you missed twice you were out. I made it to 45 yds. Chip and Arnold were still pounding it at 100 yds and ran out of room. Arnold won with zero misses Chip missed once. Fast forward 10 yrs. I only carry one gun to the range, quote from Chip “ beware of the man with one gun”.

You guys are hitting it on the head. Years ago I use to read Peterson’s 4wd and Off-road magazines, and it use to show some cheap and easy mods for 4wd, but then it started to switch over to more and more newer, better, faster, and higher sales for manufacturers. I know there is certainly new products that are improving all the time, but most of the best ones, in my opinion, seem to be the work horses that are built to last, not the fanciest, or most expensive, but reliable. Years ago they deployed the FP-45 Liberator pistol for use in the resistance forces overseas. Very basic simple firearm, single shot, reloaded manually, but it allowed them to get a better firearm from the enemy. My biggest thrill when I was young was a single shot 22 caliber revolver. Use what you have and get very proficient at it! Thanks for your great shows!

"Top 5 Guns That Would Make Perfect Melee Weapons"? That title isn't even well thought out. No gun makes a "perfect" melee weapon. Hell, most melee weapons don't make perfect melee weapons. There's so many factors. A Hi-Point is not going to make the top 5 melee weapons for a gun much less for any reason. It's made of a brittle zink alloy. It would make a better boat anchor than a melee weapon and a boat anchor would make a better melee weapon than a Hi-Point. Or were you just making a joke?

Just watching this video. I'm a gun owner on a budget. Ya'll mentioned two of my guns. My primary hunting rifle is the Remington 770 chambered in 270. Wonderful rifle that I love and I have never had any problems with. The other gun is the keltec sub 2000. I have it chambered in 40 smith and wesson. I also use it for close range hunting. I've put a simple scope on it and it's now what I'm teaching my son with. It's light weight with little recoil. Him being only 7 can carry and handle it just like I can my rifle. The only thing is you have to know you range with it. I've got it dialed in for a good 50 yards.

I'm 70years old and my Dad was a WWII VETERAN (I'M PROUD OF HIM--RIP) because of that I became very interested in ALL GUNS. I got to shoot a German Luger and P38 when I was 12 because of my older brother is the reason for that to happen. I enjoy TARGET shooting so I can keep close tabs on my eye sight because I'm blind in my left eye since birth. I have a few reasonably nice weapons that I allow other people shoot to give people a chance to shoot something that they may like to try out. I do that particularly because not all weapons are available to be rented at indoor ranges because I had situations where someone did that for me when I was younger and still fairly NEW to the SHOOTING DISCIPLINE. The main pistol that most people like to try is my German Luger and old Colt 3-5-7 (Pre-Python). It's not always a situation where it is something expensive but actually hard to FIND. My stuff are NOT COLLECTOR GRADE so they are not THAT EXPENSIVE but hard to GET, they only made 15,000 of my Colt 3-5-7 and it is a 6" one which is a small part of that 15,000 because it was ment for Troopers. My is descent condition finish wise but MECHANICALLY GREAT (@25' one hole with 38 Special CCI Blazer Brass 125gr FMJ). It's a SHOOTER not a BEAUTY QUEEN which is what I PREFER. Most of the other "nicer stuff" I bought used, from my Beretta 92FS Inox and 3032 Tomcat, to my SIG 226 and Ruger GP100. Have quite a collection of Milsurps including Tokarovs, Makarovs, a P64, a couple old CZs, and 2 Garbage Rods (Mosins). plus an assortment of New "not-very-expensive" (A relative term) PSA kit ARs, some rifles, shotguns, pistols and Glocks. I've been fortunate to own a couple high end 1911s and some 500 to 700 dollar ones. If you are flat ranging down a lane indoors to shoot Xs or bullseyes there is no doubt the fancy gun will likely come out on top and the feel of the quality is obvious. Go run a tactical course with one of each and I bet most even above average shooter's would have virtually the same results from both guns.

At 2:55 you start listing ‘if all you own is a Taurus etcetera etcetera etcetera’ well FYI I own several of them Tauruses, Springfields, and dare I say a Rossi (which I’ve had several people itching to buy. I’ve owned my Taurus PT99 since back in the early 80s and the only thing I had was the mag release went bad and Taurus took it in repaired it and had it back to me in 5 yes five days with a new mag for it this was 20 +/- years after I had it. So I differ with you about the Taurus being on the low end of your scale. Also traded a Glock 30 and $100 to get my Springfield 1911 back again.
