@waveman08 жыл бұрын
+IndieActFilms I would suggest you educate yourself, in America automatic firearms are heavily regulated already, to possess one legally you need to have FFL (Federal Firearms License) and pay a transfer fee. Plus have a look across America, several states have harsh firearm laws, District of Columbia for example, which has firearm laws almost as draconian as Australia, and yet has a VERY high firearm related crime rate. You are making sweeping generalizations that aren't correct. I would also point out that almost ALL mass shootings in America happen in so called 'gun free zones' (in which most schools are), maybe if American politicians eliminated these gun free zones they could reduce the instances of mass shooting.
@IndieActFilms8 жыл бұрын
Orion For it to really work you need to have a sweeping country wide ban... How many people who come from states where guns are legal would drive and bring them into gun free zones? The gun enthusiast's always seem to try and move around the facts. How many mass shooting have you had in the last year? nearly one per day? how many children die per year from gun attacks? In Australia we had 1 mass shooting per year leading up to Port Arthur our worst mass shooting that introduced gun laws... we now have had ZERO. The firearm homicide rate fell by 59% and the firearm suicide rate fell by 65% without increases in other types of deaths. Teen suicide fell dramatically. Lets debate the facts? I totally respect democracy and the current situation for the right to bear arms in the states but let me say this... as a citizen of the world every life matters to me... we hear on our news programs about the kids dying over there, the mass shootings at theatres, the innocent deaths from guns and we all feel for those people here, we care. Surely, a tighter gun control would be beneficial. I've been to the USA and loved it, loved the people, wore USA apparel on the 4th of July and even seen a Gun shop when I was travelling through Colorado. I just couldn't believe it, seeing those type of weapons for sale like that... They are cool don't get me wrong I should have got a selfie with one of them but surely... You have to admit theres some people in the USA who shouldn't own guns?

You have no idea how safe I feel in Australia raising my two daughters. I live in Sydney and we don't have any gangs (although there are some bikies about 30 miles from where I live who I would not mess with) our cops have 9mm pistols and we have half as many cops per capita as New Yok, Chicago or San Fran.

I am a legal gun owner and wouldn't even think to get any of my guns out and shoot a person that has broken into my home, even if it was legal for me to do so. I may not respect that person but I do respect the value of life which I believe most Americans lack. What if I was to shoot some kid in the dark that has just broken into my house because they are hungry with their dying breath they say I was kicked out of home 2 days ago and I just wanted some left overs from your fridge. How would a decent human being feel about that..
@jusfuknwidya10 жыл бұрын
Tolik L. I used to be a drug addict and I done my share of home burglaries which I am ashamed of and I ended up joining the army and becoming the man I am today.. Out of those that are willing to break in while people are home 99% will run away as fast as they can if somebody wakes up unlike USA with the weapons volume and violence level plus readiness to kill..

In Australia shooting is one of the fastest growing sports. Gun numbers are hire than before the 1996 buyback. There are upwards of 1,000,000 registered shooters out of 24,000,000 people, so we have a chunk of the vote when it come to a election. We all need to help each other too keep our guns otherwise they will be completely outlawed here.
@declansb6414 жыл бұрын
It's very tricky to change a federal policy and then also to change a state policy will be difficult, and the Australian federal government and state governments wouldn't be stupid enough to give the same freedoms as in the US. What Australia needs to do is make more gun clubs and instead of making guns for everyone they should make it so sporting/recreational gun owners must be in a club for a period of time to obtain a different type of firearm. The laws we need are ones to support clubs and members of clubs that have passions for shooting yet should keep restrictions on non-experienced/people who don't shoot.

Because that is completely irrelevant, therefor can't be used against anything in an argument. And again science MUST be observed physically before it is proven real. What I am getting at is the rural folk like myself and my 5 other generations of family, didn't have quite the collection or variety as you guys but we tended to use a more specific arsenal. Little 22 for Rabbits, semi flightless and flightless birds etc. Ex-Military 303, 223, things like that for bigger natives, shotguns for water birds and road signs. They all had a purpose, bragging rights came with accuracy efficiency. Unfortunately decision making politically came from the city, where the plight of lonely Cattleman or Drover was lost amongst the throngs of cars and forked tongue politicians.

As an Australian, coming from a family where hunting is a past time, and as a Security Officer I think our gun laws are moronic, the uneducated population of Australia the sheep who follow the media and the anti hunting/ and anti guns hate mongering will have you believe people who enjoy these past times are the same people who are shooting up streets and committing armed offences. We have no rights here, I believe we should have a right as citizens to be able to carry concealed handguns, I don't need a gun to defend myself in a one on one situation or even a 2 on one situation,I am a bouncer and I train in Martial Arts, but how would I fare 6 on one, there is no reason that citizens who go through the correct process and are approved should not be allowed to use their weapons for self defense, as a security guard I can't carry a gun unless I complete 2 training courses, and apply for a H licence, and then that doesn't mean I can own a handgun, and regardless security guards who shoot at offenders in Australia are as good as locked up anyway, so there is no point a security guard carrying a gun anyway. As far as hunting goes we should be if approved to, have semi automatic rifles for hunting purposes, we have large game here, asain buffalo, camels, scrub/feral cattle, pigs deer etc but we are only allowed bolt action rifles, unless you are a professional shooter where you can produce a contract then you can have semiautomatic firearms, the argument is commonly used that you should kill first shot but it doesn't always happen that way, I have given up my licence, and my membership in the SSAA, now I hunt with a bow and there has already been talk by politicians and police that restricting bows is something they are looking at doing. Australia may not have a gun culture as America does but those of us who enjoy shooting we are not a minority, the majority of people I know have some point in their lives taken part in target shooting/ hunting, I know police and former armed forces members who are recreational hunters, and enjoy shooting as a sport. As far as I am concerned it is all about disarming our population so the government has total control, this is what Hitler and the nazy party done in Germany, Australian citizens only need to look at the anti bikie laws being put in place to see the government is becoming more and more controlling, they are taking away peoples independence and individuality, they target anyone with a beard and tattoos now I have a beard and tattoos but I am not a bikie nor and associate, I don't know any, but I can be targeted. It wont be long before these new laws are used on every group, ethnoc groups, religions, etc all this crap is part of an agenda and that is total control and power over the citizens. , ,

Mathew Chandler I agree! The new bikie laws are just an excuse to get their hands on more people. I think it was something like 3 or more people can be considered a gang and then no due process is needed they can just arrest them? We need to legalize gun ownership in Australia. We also need to get rid of drug prohibition, drug laws create criminals from non-violent people and MASSIVELY increase gang violence.

Do they think to ask the criminals who own illegal or unregistered guns to kindly go down to their local police station and give their finger prints too? I also find it amusing that almost a million ak47s were bought into Australia before the gun buyback schemes and not ONE of them was turned back in. All supposedly got buried in backyards.. Fingerprints not required for a rifle in NSW. Requirements for pistols are more stringent than for rifles, they really want pistols to be restricted to law enforcement and security licensed security guards - so the fingerprint is part of the background check to try to avoid authorising/licensing people with history of criminal violence to carry a pistol. Maybe a pain in the butt, maybe imperfect, but just maybe it's not really so stupid. The basic idea is that if you want to legally own a firearm then you are bloody well responsible for minimising risk to the community. As a licensed gun owner, I think that is fair and balanced.
@shoominati2310 жыл бұрын
Yes, I never thought that there shouldn't be a system of checks and balances. If they implement it the right way it could stop guns falling into irresponsible hands. I was just conjecturing that it makes it very difficult to annoying impossible for people who want to go and plink a shell or two at a range to get started out.

A few things wrong here. Semi-automatic rifles are not banned, but restricted to farmers, hunters and sometimes sporting shooters. I've seen AR-15's for sale before. You are allowed to shoot 9mm handguns etc. during your probationary period, but you can't own one. You do not have to be a member of a shooting club or prove you go to a range to own a rifle or shotgun. You do however have to join the SSAA (Shooting Sports Association Australia) to give a genuine reason. You have to participate in shooting events for handguns, not other rifles or shotguns (including semi-automatic) There are no "very long jail terms" in Australia because of our weak justice system.
@TheDamiandemos10 жыл бұрын
You're playing with words here. Semi-auto's along with pump-action shotguns are effectively banned. If you can't get one without being a professional shooter or some other small segment of the community, then they are effectively banned. And why don't you say a word or two about how police violate common law and go into your own property, your own house or even bedroom if need be, in order to inspect your guns, which of course are registered in order to allow these inspections.
@mwps9910 жыл бұрын
TheDamiandemos No, they're not. Majority of rural people I know have the required license to own a semi-automatic or pump action shotgun. You've covered that now, no need to.
@flyboy172r10 жыл бұрын
AustralianFreedomFighter Yes you're talking about low capacity .22LR semi-automatic rifles or pump action or semi-automatic shotguns which fall under Category C. As for centrefire semi-automatic firearms that's a different story. There are only 24 Category D license holders in Victoria. There is no virtual guarantee of a license being issued like a Cat A or B, nor a permit to aquire going through. Customs will not clear a firearm for import prior to the Attorney General's go ahead. There is no real way of starting a pest control business which requires a Category D given that you would first need to demonstrate that the majority of your income derives from professional pest control. And if you need a Cat D firearm to do that then all you'll end up doing is going around in circles. They aren't 100% banned, but they are 'effectively' banned like what the fellow above was saying.
@mwps9910 жыл бұрын
***** I'm aware of that, but it is still a semi-automatic rifle. I constantly hear "semi-automatics were completely banned in Australia" And "there are no semi-autos in Australia" etc. etc. While they are quite restricted, they are not banned.

"if you ask the average Australian what they want with their gun rights ... they want to own guns" Whether your opinion is for or against gun ownership it doesn't matter (I am for gun ownership), but I have to point out that this is factually incorrect. The average Australian (in terms of mean statistics on opinion of gun control) will tell you that they like the way it is now, if not stricter. Say what you will about whether they're wrong or right, but that's the majority opinion.
@jasoar15639 жыл бұрын
chazzatheninja Government would have you believe its not your right like in the US because its not written into the bill of rights, but believe me it sure is your right to own one as written in the law, you just need to apply for one.
@SnoopReddogg9 жыл бұрын
+chazzatheninja Here's the kicker, if there was a majority opinion, a political party would've seized on that public sentiment at an election. Why? Because in Australia, we have proportional representation and, wait for it... Compulsory Voting. That means, if you enrol to vote at some point, you have to continue to vote at state/federal elections and referendums. If you don't want to vote, you never bother enrolling. Back to the 'Why' The status qua is maintained because no one block group wants to ban or loosen the current firearms legislation because the community will vote on it either way, with the majority not in favour of loosing laws. We've also got a good public health system, so mental health is easily identified and thats red flag if applying for a gun license. ( different story) Aside from that, couldn't be bothered listening to the ramblings of two seppos who aren't 100% over the issue (have they being here?)
@jasoar15639 жыл бұрын
SnoopReddogg bit of a shame though ya do have to admit, the majority is misinformed but although the 96 legislation was a knee jerk reaction, and a complete over reaction.. because only 5% of Australians own legal firearms it would never go back its just a shame.. the 5% are just labeled and treated as criminals in waiting is truly amazing.. when there is a clear definition between the almost non existence of crime committed by them at all..
@SnoopReddogg9 жыл бұрын
+AR15RM ZSMD! knee jerk was a understatement. But then again, you had to be there at the time. I was in victoria, which had a ban on centerfires semi-autos, so the mood intitially was nothing would change... wrong. Well here in the states pocket knives that are holstered or not concealed clip showing outside of pocket are not considered weapons (they tools which many of carry due to our trades) like gun unlike in the nanny state of Australia so forgive me if find it stupid and overbearing. It's a shame that Australians seem to be afraid of their own shadows and are letting the nanny government bend them over and dictate every aspects of their lives.. Visiting is ok, you have an interesting country, but I'll stay here in the states where I have my freedoms and can carry a pocket knife without fear of being deemed a criminal and then having my right trampled upon by an overbearing goverment. A pocket knife is not a gun.
@Deblivator4810 жыл бұрын
I completely agree that it should not be considered a gun. In Australia we are allowed to carry knives to a curtain degree, as in, we sometimes can take a fishing knife fishing depending on the circumstances and if out trade needs us to carry a pocket knife or multi-tool then we are allowed to. But other than that, no defense purposed item is allowed to be on your person in public. Its really shit, we arnt even allowed to defend our home if it is being robbed with out being pressed chages.
@Jarlemoore110 жыл бұрын
Jackson Hayes There's such a thing as over legislation and your government has done a fine job of that, that's what we American's (especially law abiding gun owners) fight against because if we let the anit-gun parties win the day they won't just stop there they'll be after our pocket knives and filet knives as well until we are not allowed to have form of self defense at all. Here's a good example of their thinking, I went to work in the shipping/recieving department of an insurance company (we were packing up and shipping their reading material) and I had a little 2 inch bladed pocket knife on me which I opened boxes, cut straps and so on with, well one of the little chicken hearted ladies complained and the manager came out (Woman) came and told me pocket knives weren't allowed after 9/11 and my multi-tool wasn't allowed either because it had a blade on it only box cutters were allowed. This struck me as stupid, so I asked here did she know what the terrorist who took over those planes used in doing so, she looked at me and I told her BOXCUTTER's so why are they allowed and nothing else. That's right they outlawed everything else pocket knives and multi-tools but allowed the very thing the terrorist used, DOH! This is the type of dumb ass thinking we are fighting here in the states, they want to ban "Assault style rifles" and limit ammo amounts in clips but yet these kind of rifles have only been used in 9% of the shootings around the country where as pistols were used 62% of the time and shotgun the rest. Knee jerk reactions only tend to make things worse As for people being able to carry guns openly or concealed well I moved away from just outside Philadelphia, PA where you heard of drug/gang related shootings everyday to a country setting south of the area and in another state where people can openly carry and conceal carry with no problems and guess what they don't have shootings down here, the last one I heard of is when a guy shot another guy he caught with his girlfriend and gave him an ass full of bird shot as he ran away naked. Now Philadelphia has strict gun control legislation but yet the criminals don't listen and there for a while they were the murder capitol of the US, so why is where people are allowed to carry there is no or very little crime at all? it's because the criminals don't come here because they know they can't prey on people who refuse to become victims. As for defending your homes there a few liberal states in the US that are the same way New Jersey and Massachusetts are ones that I know of, in Jersey if your on the 3rd floor your supposed to jump out a window before confronting an invader.

Reminds me of some guy I talked to a month ago, he was extremely anti gun to put it *mildly*. I told him I liked gun laws the way they are if not a bit looser (and he was American) and he was flabbergasted, he directed me to an article and asked me if anything I read sounded unreasonable to me and I clicked the link which basically described the gun laws in the UK, Australia, and Japan. From England basically restricting you to 22lr and a double barrel IF you belong to a shooting club, to what is described in this video I was convinced I was being trolled. When I got to Japan *that* is when things got *interesting*. Basically EVERYONE who knows you is interviewed by police extensively, SWAT teams keep a blueprint of your house on file and randomly barge in and search it like a drug raid, you must go to a hospital for psychological exams (which may or may not include lie detector tests and those electrode things being stuck on your face during an interview), and after several seasons of this you have to under go a safety course... and for all this you get the prize of not going to jail for ten years minimum for touching a gun... what did you think you'd actually get a gun after all this? Oh, that's a whole other thing! I accused the nation of Japan of trolling me to this gentleman and he didn't exactly take it well, I was accused of being a bad ass wannabe, crazy nut, paranoid of my neighbors, and not blocked but given a promise that everything I said would not be read but instantly deleted.

Our safety? Guns banned in 1996. Between 1991 and 2001, the number of firearm-related deaths in Australia declined 47%. Australian murder rate has fallen to close to one per 100,000 while the US rate, thankfully lower than in the early 1990s, is still roughly at 4.5 per 100,000 - over four times as high. Suicide deaths using firearms more than halved over the ten years. Although people kill people, guns are easier to allow a momentary lapse in judgement to turn into something bad

The laws we have in Canada are stupid but NO WHERE NEAR anything like this. At least our government currently is making our gun laws BETTER (which is great for gun owners in Canada). One of our registries got abolished (we now only have a registry for restricted firearms) and we no longer need paperwork to transport pistols (this will be in effect soon - passed as law needs to still be implemented). I can lean any non restricted gun (i.e. rifles and shotguns) up against my door so long as it is trigger locked and unloaded. I could even keep my non restricted guns in my car. Our pistols are limited in magazine capacity as well as our rifles, but .22 is exempt from this rule. We also cannot carry guns for self defence (under certain circumstances you can be granted a license to carry a firearm). Our laws suck, but they aren't THAT bad all things considered. In some situations they are better than the USA - a Mare's leg here is considered a non restricted rifle, whereas in the US I believe it is considered a pistol. The Canadian government owns land throughout the country and the land classified as general use you are allowed to shoot non restricted weapons on. There are other restrictions such as barrel length and certain mods you cannot do without having your gun go from non restricted to restricted etc, but for the most part we can get most guns apart from full autos etc. Steps Required To Buy A Gun: 1) Take Canadian Firearms Safety Course 2) Take Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (Only if you want restricted) 3) Mail course results into provincial firearms office for stamping 4) Fill out federal application for PAL (possession and acquisition license) with pictures and references 5) Wait 28 day minimum for PAL to be processed (more like 3 months) 6) BUY GUNS!!! (Buying a restricted takes about 1-3 days processing before you can pick up your gun from the store, but that will soon be abolished now that we no longer need ATT's)

Australian gun laws can really be thought of as, what are reasonable laws to owning a firearm, Your need a reason to own one, you don't have mental health issues and/or a violent criminal history, you need to keep your gun in a safe so it can't be stolen, you can't buy high grade military weapons, you need to have completed a safety course (generally you do one for free when you join a gun club). People in Australia that complain about the guns laws really just want to own the weapons your not allowed to own, you can still buy for example a 50 cal BMG rifle.

Enforcing the same laws that worked for you guys wouldn't have the same effect here for many different reasons. Our gun laws are only a small part of the reason we have the increased number of shootings. We have a lot of huge cities with people crammed in like sardines with tons of gang problems and a revolving door criminal justice system that keeps sending violent thugs back on to the streets time after time. It's not as black and white as looking at the difference in gun laws would make it seem. Not even close.

It’s a bit of a coincidence that 1996 is the same year we had the strict gun laws made. So is it safer to live in America?

this isn't exactly true, these are the steps to firearm licensing in Australia and most upto date (completed mine this year) 1. Reason for ownership = Endorsed Gun Club Member(can only shoot at club and must shoot a minimum of 6 times per year at the club) or Open firearms license which requires a Property Letter with permission to shoot/hunt on that land (can then shoot at club and on approved properties, no minimum limit on shooting per year etc) or Collector (can not shoot anywhere/anytime) 2. Complete firearms safety course (20 question test/can be taken at your local gun shop or gun club) ($60) 3. Purchase gun and obtain safety certificate for gun (dealer holds onto firearm until license clears) 4. send in application where there is a 28 day cooling period before application is processed (reason for ownership,firearm details,service ticket and completed firearm safety certificate) 5. Use the 28 cooling period to Fit Safe that complies with Cat A or B firearm registration. ($250) 6. Receive your license in the mail, head to the gun shop and pick up your rifle. the end. Safe storage is as follows Ammo is to be stored within the same safe but in a separate lockable compartment. Bolts do not have to be removed and stored separately from the rifle. Every additional firearm you wish to buy, you must again justify the reason for purchase, but the process is quicker.

Speaking as a New Zealander (who now lives in Australia) who was raised on a farm around firearms and to have a respect and passion for them, I cant tell you how painful it is to purchase a firearm in oz. Another painful fact is that banning firearms (in any country) does very little to effect the number of mass shootings like the port arthur shooting which took away so many firearms from Australians, yet that was the excuse given when so many firearms were seized. Education and familiarization with firearms stops mass shootings, which is an indisputable fact. I know for a fact, in the industrial city I live in now in the Australian state of Queensland, you can buy an AR or AK illegally for a few grand. Weapons will always be radially available one way or another. Its just the law abiding citizens that suffer for it when they are banned for "our safely".

You were right most of the time. For a more accurate presentation, lookup the video "Australian Gun Laws (explained)". It's not that hard to import most manual-action long guns (except for pump-action shotguns, and the state of West Australia is stricter on rifles in particular). And, while possible, it's very hard to import any operation semi-automatic long gun (or pump-action shotgun), which, for civilians, can only be done for people such as feral pest animal controllers, filmmaking, etc. Even having a deactivated centerfire, semi-automatic rifle or a shotgun that holds more than 6 rounds in a magazine (both of which are Category D, nearly prohibited weapons) is treated almost like having a live one (especially with safe storage requirements)!

"black market stronger than ever". that is laughable. There are no government issue glasses, the debate in Australia was over 10 years ago because it was the conservative government that introduced gun control and buyback. ALP could never have done it because the Lib/Nat coalition would have wedged them.

Pretty much the same here in New Zealand regarding gun law and ownership, although most people still own sporting guns ie shotguns and hunting rifles for deer pigs rabbits and of course game birds. Very few have military style semi automatics and pistols. Those that do have strict rules to abide by much like our Aussie cousins. Americans are lucky to have the right to bear arms, but unlucky to be dealing with the aftermath of those who are unsuitable. Thanks for the awesome videos :-)

superravmanrampage Australia's Gun Control Laws were built on a pile of Deceit, and lies I have it on good word from people present at the time that The Port Arthur Massacre was staged, and Bryant wasn't the gunman who killed all those people. This is confirmed by eyewitnesses namely Wendy Scurr who tended to the injured while they waited 4 hours for medical help. Another thing odd was that the Australian authorities sent unarmed police officers to try and apprehend the perpetrator who was still at large. There are so many inconsistencies with the ordeal that it begs lots of questioning unfortunately the majority of you Aussies didn't do your own research, and like Sheeple bowed down to Big Daddy Government without a peep.

No assault or automatic rifles allowed unless you are in the military like I was. Guns are highly restricted and controlled. You need real background checks to get a permit to buy weapons. Just need to say, I don't own a fire weapon and I don't need to own one to feel safe here in Canada...

@@bobfaam5215 that would mean that 6.4% of Canada's population owns around 3 hunting rifles each. I would say, a 12 gauge for duck and geese hunting, a 30-30 and a 30-06. That seems to be plausible. Handguns are highly restricted, and rifles can only have maximum 5 rounds magazines.

I'm Australian and in the process of obtaining my Gun licence and personally, I actually appreciate the difficulty of obtaining a firearms licence here. For starters I have met and seen allot of people that I wouldn't want owning a firearm of any sort. Secondly and most importantly In Australia, no matter where you are, you'll never feel the need to be caring a firearm because of that security knowing that any random lunatic cannot simply buy a firearm. It's difficult to explain because Australia and the United States are very different places but If you ever visit Australia I think you'll understand what I mean. Our form of freedom is feeling safe without needing to carry weapons to defend yourself, which I quite like. Also I could never imagine having to shoot at another human in a civil situation. So why am I getting a gun? Well, I like them and I like shooting them, enough so that I'll even endure the process of requirements in order to be able to own my own Pistols.

The Americans defeated communism and declared themselves the NWO for ideology and economics. These days Americans are scared of their own shadow and are paranoid that another power will come along from anywhere and nowhere and topple the American World Order. That said, if Australia had a population as big and scary as some parts of America, I might have a different attitude. It should be noted that the particulars of gun laws do differ from State to State in Australia. If you asked your average Australia what they want when it comes to guns they would say the same laws if not stricter. If you talked to the Australia gun community which would be .5% of the population, they might have a different opnion. Australia just does not have that many shooters compared to America. The laws were a knee jerk reaction but it put a halfway decent system in place, in my opinion they could loosen up on semi autos and let people other than industry/range control officers own them, but I dont mind the rigmarole because you get people who are interested in shooting and shooting properly get into it so you dont get the casual cowboys who end up hurting themselves

Okay, I am an Aussie and while I don't agree with some of the gun laws they make a lot of sense, I would rather go through all of that in order to make it a thousand times harder for a criminal to get a gun. Those laws are there to protect the average citizen who doesn't want guns. Look at Port Arthur. For the longest time it was the worst massacre in history, since then, how many massacres has Australia had? None. I'm not saying it wouldn't be awesome to have a gun and be able to shoot, but I would much rather go through that then have another massacre occur.
