This has happened in the UK with knives. Because of inner-city thugs stabbing each other, people in the countryside who might want to carry a knife for utilitarian purposes are restricted to a folding, non-locking (and that, to me, is not as safe for the user) blade under 3 inches. If I want to carry a fixed bladed or locking folding knife, I have to be able to prove I have a solid, provable use for it otherwise I could be arrested and sent to jail for a while. I live out in the Scottish Highlands, not some inner-city tower-block housing project where there's problems with drugs, high crime rates, gang violence, etc. I can't even carry my little Opinel because it has a locking collar and that is such a useful knife. There's no provision for carrying one for the chance you /might/ need it (or even just want it - slice some fruit, whittle a stick, whatever). There's certainly no carrying any kind of weapon for self defence here (but thankfully there doesn't seem to be the same necessity for it). I do wish that localised laws were a thing here; they used to be in the past, but now the law is the same everywhere, even when the problems aren't the same everywhere.

I grew up in southern IL where the issues of Chicago force laws on the little guy in rural IL who just loves to shoot. Then I joined the army and since I've ran into the same issues in TN with Nashville problems and now in CO with denver issues. this sort of stuff happens everywhere. because of a shooting by a mad man in a subdivision of Denver (Aurora) we've seen so many new laws hit the books that obviosly don't hurt the criminals at all but make it somewhat dificult for me to have fun at the range.

Also, I appreciate your point about firearms owners, by and large, being responsible, safe people. It only makes sense, because the awesome responsibility that comes with handling firearms demands level-headedness, maturity and presence of mind.

Its bullshit that the only amendment that specifically says "shall NOT be infringed" is the one that gets infringed on the most. All gun control is infringement, and therefore unconstitutional.
@SomeGuy-sj1ly2 жыл бұрын
@@luisecobian3691 Yes, but no not really. We need to repeal the NFA and the gun control act of '68. The hughes amendment was an amendment to the FOPA (firearms owners protection act), which itself was an update to the gun control act of 1968. Therefore, repealing the GCA would repeal the FOPA and Hughes amendment as well.

Just got around to this vid and Eric what you said about draconian gun laws effecting those outside the "jurisdiction with the problem" brings to mind the Civil War and the reasons it was fought . The South believed each state should govern its own area,basically that New York should govern New York and Georgia should govern Georgia. What is reasonable and necessary in Manhattan is NOT reasonable and necessary in Macon. Trying to apply the same laws to Oregon as you do to Florida (trade laws ,gun laws you name it) results in laws that don't fit EITHER state well. The South didn't go to war over slavery, they went to war over being able to govern themselves. The wrong side won. Bet you never thought you'd hear that from a yankee, huh? lol

I've lived in a rural part of Kentucky all my life, and I gotta say that the gun laws here are very good. Most of the people I know carry, whether it be open or concealed. Ammo prices are fair and the numbers are abundant. It's extremely common here that people, including myself, will just go out and shoot in their yards. No one complains either, everyone is used to seeing guns due to our culture, being that 8/10 people hunt very often around here. Love it

Illinois is starting to change a little...concealed carry is finally being established. You still need a FOID (Firearm Owner ID) card, which isn't a big deal. We have had our share of shootings that have made national news lately. We just had a woman murdered last week 15 miles from my house by a guy she knew outside of a bar. This stuff happens, nothing the government does will stop it. My advice is to severely punish those who murder. No need to punish everyone for one person's actions.

Yep, also people used to look out for each other. I lived in a smaller city and our family and neighbors never locked our doors and left windows open all day and never had a break-in or anything stolen. Children walked to school and played safely outside day and night. People could walk anywhere and anytime in complete safety. Unfortunately, that's not true any more. If people stopped putting up with crime, drugs, etc. and start to look out for themselves and each other, it would be different.
