Michael Fal5on The laws in South Africa are different. You’re only allowed to use your gun if you life is being directly threatened. So even if some does break into your home and you shoot them you will end up having to prove that your life was being threatened. Stand your ground doesn’t really apply in SA... which is sad.

1. The SAPS has stated that they "cannot fulfill their mandate", meaning that they cannot protect the citizens of the country. Therefore law abiding citizens should be able to defend themselves using the best means possible against criminals who have no regard for the law. 2. I know of plenty people who legally own firearms and not a single one of them have ever been negatively affected by it, done anyone else any harm and where they have had to use it against criminals, they were able to successfully defend themselves and their loved ones. 3. How is it possible to think that if the law abiding citizens are disarmed that gun crime will stop? It won't. In South Africa criminals has easy access to large caches of arms hidden locally, and can easily smuggle firearms across out non existant borders, as is happening already. Now refer back to point 1. 4. Stats from around the world will show that where there are a high number of armed citizens, the murder rate is significantly lower than in areas where citizens do not have the ability to own firearms. 5. All of this comes down to personal liberty. Gun control is a means of the state to exercise control over people and their freedom. Every single time in history where a government has disarmed the people of their legally owned firearms, oppression followed and in most cases the death of millions of people. 6. Why does enca always allow foreign funded organisations like GFSA ample airtime but not nearly enough time to organisations such as GOSA? The bias is very clear!

Tell that to all the criminals with their unlicensed guns. Your protection is your responsibility, you are your own first responder. Rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. The SAPS cannot protect you. As stated by the minister himself, the SAPS is over stretched and cannot fulfill its mandate.

ZORT FC making it easier for guns to be accessible will be detrimental . check the states in the USA. mass school shootings, places of worship shootings. thing is, a gun can kill multiple people in a few seconds , a knife wielding person cannot do the same unless they have some crazy ass skills. guns take lives quicker and more than one at once. its not the solution. I've been held up , if I had a gun, I would have been shot because I was outnumbered. thugs dont do lone ranger shootings , they are in groups. one gun against five guns is not a battle , its a suicide. then ur gun becomes part of their weapons . I do know of an instance where a victim saved his life and that of his family against two gun wielding attackers but both him and his father was together and armed in that moment. they could foresee the danger that was imminent . I believe farm owners must also be heavily armed but when they are, they still get murdered as proven by the thousands of armed farmers who is dead today . thugs move in groups . they do not attack as a lone shooter but a teen who gets hold of a legal gun from a family member etc , is not a good thing . first world countries riddled with mass school shootings. not gang related school shootings, its kids from middle class families who are bullied or just angry at the world etc . now think of the gang violence at schools in south Africa . our high unemployment and high robbery / housebreaking rate .

If people want to kill they will kill with or without a gun. Some kills with pangas or knives. None of the studies show that at any murder scene that the guns found was registered. Most of the guns used is unlicensed nor do the gun have a serial nr on it. They must consentrate rather on all the guns out there thats been given to gangsters unlicensed or where the serial nr of the weapon is filled off. I won't even give up my firearms then because a knife can do just as much damage as gun. Also I like my firearms, I don't commit crimes with them, I am responsible with them. So why should I give up my firearms because of someone else's feelings when they don't care about mine? If the police can carry firearms and are encouraged by Bheki Cele to use lethal force, but then in the same breath says he wants to take away firearms from legal and responsible firearm owners how is that not hypocrisy? If it comes to me keeping my firearms or criminals keeping theirs I think you know what option I will choose. I am in the process of acquiring a gun myself. I was almost hijacked three times, and the first time I met the police while being chased. I stopped them and told them that the three cars that just made a u-turn were chasing me, and they told me they were hungry and were going to buy chicken. I waited at the police station for about an hour waiting for someone to escort me home. I eventually drove home alone. It was after 12am; I was out to help a friend get home who had arrived by taxi from Joburg. Has anyone noticed that the guns that are found on criminals are never your Glocks, your CZ's, your M&P, your Seug's, etc? These are guns that gun legal gun owners buy, and if criminals stole them there should be a whole lot of them found on criminals. Guns that are always found are those that come from the police. The police is failing at its duty but want to make safety almost impossible for law abiding citizens? I would like to add, however, that our gun laws should be a bit tightened by making it mandatory for gun owners to do their competency at least every time we renew the license. Plus, the SAPS should regularly check if we keep our guns in the safe.

There are too many guns in circulation in SA. Most of them are taken off the armed fidelity guards and cops that are robbed. People who are known to own guns get targeted home invasions and put their family's life at risk. So if you have a gun just keep it in your safe at home in case of a home invasion but if you brandish it in public then you are putting a target on your back.

How will you have enough time to run to your safe and retrieve your firearm if the criminals have allready gained entry to your home?

If a firearm owner conceals properly no one will know that he/she is armed so they won't have a target on their back. When you are carrying a concealed firearm you have the tactical advantage in any hostile situation.
