Rule #2 If you are carrying your gun, carry a phone. If you need to use your gun, you definitely want to be the first one to call 911.

As a person who was in a SD shoot and had to barrow a phone yeah... Carry your phone I also suggest a car charger/ portable battery you can charge off of. Also Tell the 911 dispatcher who you are, That you are legally in possession of said firearm ie Home owner/CCW permit holder, What you look like, whom the attacker is where they are/went, What status the attaker is in injured/armed what they look like. Then shut up. Once the cops arrive tell them you/who were/was attacked, point out any evidence/witnesses you feel is applicable to proving you are innocent. Then tell them that in your current state of shock you want to hold off on further statements til you have calmed down and you have your lawyer. Not saying anything at all is dangerous and doesn't look good to the arriving officers. The impression of the LEO's that arrive on scene will set the mood for the investigation. Trust me after reading the police report of my shooting you would be amazed how relevant my actions and state of mind was from beginning to end. I was shaking I was shuddering and I vomited. If you look like a victim and act like a victim they they will look at you as one though out the investigation and that is exactly what you want. I'm not saying go into details I'm just saying give them enough that they know what to look for regarding evidence. In my case my statement went something like this (I was here he was there he approached me said this did that I feared for my safety so I shot. Those people saw it there, is a camera, That is a bag he dropped ect. Then SHUT UP. If officers try to make small talk talk to them BUT DON'T SAY CRAP ABOUT THE SHOOTING. I had an officer try to help me calm down asked me about what I did for work what class I was taking at the college ect he was being friendly and trying to help me though a bad time this conversation made it into the report any and all contact an officer has with you will be reported. if an officer is trying to make small talk and you rudely snubb him may look bad in their report that EVERYONE INVOLVED WILL SEE. Try to stay calm, Try to be polite, look like the victim you were but don't volunteer any info that is not immediately necessary. This is just my 2 cents from my personal experience.
@jhanks2012

@@Situationdevelopment you're willingly living in a delusion if you still think having a phone on you is more of an advantage than a disadvantage. if someone is bleeding out on the street who you had to shoot in self-defense and if he dies due to you not being able to call help for him in time, that's not your problem and you will not be held liable for not bringing a phone with you too

When I was in Nam (‘70), I wore my 1911 on a cowboy style gun belt that I could easily swing the gun in front of my crotch as I climbed into the cockpit of the AH-1G Cobra Gunship. The reason being is that I used it as a bullet deflector to hopefully protect my jewels. Also the armored seats were so narrow that with the gun on my hip it was very uncomfortable. ps. @@MrSpot94 It's not just that - recently watched a video that showed a guy on the side of the road (presumably his car broke down?), anyway three perps approached him with obvious intent to jack him up, the three split apart just before engaging. The perp in front of the pack goes to pull his gun, the guy by the car fires first. The first shot hit, but he didn't go down immediately. He fired two more times that were clearly misses. The two buddy perps fled when the shooting started. Point: After a few seconds the perp finally went down from the first shot, but the good guy missed twice. High stress situation, not uncommon. But suppose the two perp buddies hadn't bailed and stayed in the fight - how many more rounds would he have needed? Yeah, the extra mag is probably best for a possible malfunction, but too many people seem to assume that a self defense scenario will only occur against one perp.

I carry a HK P30 that is 15 + 1 and I still carry a extra magazine. I believe that there is a report out there about the FBI's shooting ratio which is 80% misses. 80% misses! Wow! So, shooters are already shooting high, low, wide left and wide right at paper targets at the range without their heart racing and adrenaline pumping or palms sweating; so imagine the possible misses when they are confronted with a violent situation. No one ever comes out of a gun fight saying; "I wish I had less ammo!"

Other useful tips given to me by my trainers, military & law enforcement friends & family include the following: You have to have the mental & physical capacities to handle yourself if the situation were to ever come about that you had to use your concealed carry weapon. Learn to reload under stress. Learn to have, carry & use at least two "back-up" weapons(a great knife & another concealed firearm.) Learn to shoot under pressure, under stress. Learn to "have your head on a swivel" in certain "situations." Tactical tactics (will explain at another time.) Get the proper training and practice, practice, practice. Learn your weapons. Learn yourself, your mental & physical limits & how far you can go with these limitations. Good luck.

I'm responding to a 2 year old comment for the good of the class. This may come as a shock to some but a large number of people who own guns "to carry" only carry them occasionally. They're only for going out at night or going to "that part of town." The rest of us understand that bullshit can happen wherever you go and that your means of protection need to be with you to actually help.

I have carried a pocket knife similar to yours for 26 years. Once you have one on you, you find out just how handy it is and don't want to be without it. I've carried a flashlight (that fits in my pocket) for the past 10 years. Streamlite makes some nice, handy units for this purpose. I also got a very short, single AAA battery sized one at a gun show that is amazingly bright for it's size and power. I don't leave home without either of these (flashlight or knife), and they get used almost daily (less for the pocket knife though). Just to add one thing you didn't mention, I also keep a quality pen on me. I've had too many cheap, Chinese pieces of crap that almost write 2 sentences and then they are done. I got a quality Parker "writing instrument" that always writes, feels smooth, and I can always rely on it. Everyone who's borrowed it has been impressed with how it feels to write with it. Well worth the $10. It is also stainless steel, in case a piece of stainless steel is needed. ;)

All valid points except for the comment on not carrying a spare mag if you carry a glock 19, or something that is a double stack mag with 15+ capacity. Carrying a spare mag is not just for more ammo. It's having a spare mag for the reason that if you get, let's say a type 3 malfunction, you will need to dump the mag and go for the spare mag. More times than not a malfunction is caused by a bad mag. Always carry a spare mag. Good video

Been carrying a full size government 1911 for a few years now. Leather Urban Carry holster. Yes the belt is very important. Bull hide belts makes a nice rugged one and steel core if you wish. Old school here and I find leather extremely comfortable. Thinking about something smaller but it's hard to match 45ACP. Or a fine tuned 1911 for that matter. The holster does have a adjustable retention clip made of nylon I believe so no marks or scratches. I do honestly believe the right belt is just as important as the holster. Good video. Thanks.

@Gun Nuts Media I'm sorry but you are wrong. You should always carry at least one extra magazine... It doesn't matter it you are carrying a single stack or double stack. The main reason for carrying an extra magazine is equipment failure, not the amount of ammunition your weapon holds. I carry a Springfield XDM 9mm pistol that is 19+1 plenty of ammunition for any self defense situation. That is until you get in that one situation where your magazine malfunctions after one round and now your firearm is a paperweight. I understand that it is unlikely to happen but in a life or death situation working 99.9% isn't good enough for me. I will sacrifice the 1 pound of discomfort for carrying an extra magazine to possibly save mine or my loved ones lives.

+James Michael Wyatt, I couldn't agree more. I'm in my 60's and my story is nearly identical I have about 45 years of active carry and started shooting BB guns at 5, and real ones with supervision from 10 to 18, and hunted and enjoyed turkey shoots for a long time. Became a police officer at 21, and have been an enthusiast for the vast majority of my life. Guns in and of themselves are inert, not inherently evil. It's the persons who shouldn't be in possession of a gun. (CRIMINALS and the legally adjudicated insane) It's evil people that are the problem. We should have criminal control, not gun control. SCREW PAROLE for violent criminals. let them serve out their entire sentence. If it's life in jail, THEY GET TO DIE THERE... And they call it a "Corrections System" I've never believed in calling it that, when the repeat offense rate so so damned high it is ridiculous.

Hey, Gun Nuts Media, it matters not whether you are carrying a single stack or a double stack. The reason that you carry a spare mag is to give you the option of correcting a feed malfunction, i. e. magazine malfunction, dropped magazine, the infamous Murphy's law, and if perchance trouble comes via two or more idiots. Oh, and let's not forget that if you do ever find yourself in a situation of having to defend yourself or a loved one, to help overcome the loss of fine motor skills due to the adrenaline rush. No one who was ever involved in a gun fight and lived to talk about it has ever said "Gee, I wish that I didn't have so much ammo".

Just a comment from someone who wears a jacket/tie and walks from home to office (2 miles) every day. Most of my workday is spent with my jacket off, so IWB or OSW is no good. Wearing a real gun belt is also not an option, since most quality gun belts won't fit the belt loops on my suit pants. So what are those of us white collar people supposed to do? My initial solution was a S&W .38 Airweight. It might be "airweight" but wasn't really that light. Putting it my jacket pocket gave me a giant sag. Then I went to the ultimate pocket gun: Ruger LCP .380 in my back pocket. Let's hope that I never have to fish it out of that pants pocket in an emergency. It's darn near impossible..

So fight for your rights then. Actually, your goverment together with French, Belgium, Italian and Dutch is pushing through European Commision proposal of directive to ban all the weapons. Our Slovak politician (who almost became a prime minister) Richard Sulik is fighting hard against this. Hopefully you signed a petition already. Greetings from Slovak republic, one of the few remaining countries (together with Czech) in fucking EU where we still have a right to carry and also posess and own any semiauto gun (even rifles). And now a “wonderful” commies from greens and social “democrats” wants to disarm even us and then bring a totalitarian regime upon us. We were there, we don't want to get back and let gulags and secret police come again. I have to wonder how it's possible you, citizens of former western countries can't smell commies and totality like we do, even when masked behind greens and other parties. I'm happy to carry my Glock and I will never allow to take my vz 58 from me

Well black powder are good for western shows, not for anything else. And you know, with raising amount of criminal gangs from islamic states and africa, any gun you don't have with you is good for nothing. And if situation really gets bad (but nobody wants that) and civil war would occur, having some semiauto rifle with full capacity magazine and to know how to handle it is giving you at least SOME chance. Sadly, I have a feeling we are on the path to get to civil war in Europe :( If we are in times where working, natural citizen is punished by high taxes, punished for opinions and immigrants from third world are more privileges and getting money from tax payers (together with members of NGOs), when you have to wonder how comes that according to all these socialists every right wings party is “xenophobic, rasist, fascists” and you don't know where all regular right wing parties disappeared, then something must happen. I still hope for democratic change, to get rid of socialists and other morons from power by elections, but as I look at situation in Western Europe and their attempts to criminalize every oposition, I feel like I saw it in the past. In former Czechoslovakia and Eastern Gemany and Poland and Hungary where rhetorics was the same. I keep you finger crossed. I hope we can get back to united Europe with free markets and without commies in Brusells, without left wing radicals in power and get back to rational, pragmatic debate about how to solve problems instead of political correctnes and to always try to find ways out of problems. Europe, where everybody gets money for real work, not because he is “socially penalized”.

don't bet on it. In case of Brexit they will do anything to prevent it, like repeat the poll, and then repeat it again and again till results won't be as they like. Just look at Lisbon treaty and public poll in Ireland. They had to repeat it. Or they can fake it. In case of Austrian presidency elections, even if I never, ever believe in conspiracies and shit like that, I'm not quite sure if those votes were not twisted. Huge win for Hofer and the, bzink, postal votes (post and votes in hands of state and ministry of internal affairs), van der Bell wins.

The clips on most IWB holsters are made for 1.5" belts. I use a 1.5" leather belt to support my gun. It is good quality leather, and very thick. It came from Walmart. Store stock varies from state to state, and store to store I'm sure. So it may be hit or miss, but to simply say don't use a belt from Walmart to support your gun is kind of narrow minded. It doesn't matter where you buy it. It matters if it can do the job. Otherwise nice video.

I beg to respectfully differ. I have had leather belts from WalMart and they vary in quality greatly as opposed to other vendors of leather belts. So much so every one of my FORMER WalMart belts could NOT stand up to the EDC carry of a full size 1911A1. I now have a Tandy Leather Co. top grain cowhide made belt, finished in black basket weave, and it is tough as nails. I bought the buckle, and the blank from them, stamped the basket weave myself, finished it and use leather restorer on it once a year to keep it in good shape. I don't buy ANYTHING from WalMart that my life might depend on. They buy strictly from the cheapest supplier without regards to quality control. My wife used to work there during tight times, and OMG, the stories I could tell you.

As well, back in the day, the major FBI Miami shootout, they were using revolvers back then, and they had a total of 18 rounds issued. Several agents DIED with no rounds left and they were clutching their empties like they were saving their brass for reloading later... Better to have way more than you need than one round short of what you HAVE TO HAVE. Shortly thereafter they examined their weapons policy and issued semi-autos and insisted on high capacity magazines and urged their agents to carry more ammo than issued. Two agents died and five were wounded. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_FBI_Miami_shootout

@johnmood5653

+Dave Holden Did you read the FBI report? Most significantly, the FBI lost some good men, partly due to ther training. So, The training changed. Sure they were up against criminals who didn't want to be captured. That's a GIVEN. The fact the FBI was outgunned was already known, so the second significant thing that happened wss the FBI went to high capacity semi-auto handguns and started training field agents on the M-16, and issuing them. Some of the FBI agents killed were still clutching their spent brass from the revolvers they carried then. On the range, they trained to 'police' their brass on the range, so they did that in the field. It got some of them killed. Mostly, being outgunned was it. Unless you've ever tried to arrest someone whilo was armed and outgunned you, your statement is hollow. I have, and carried a .38 revolver for all my street career as a cop. I thank God I survived with B.S. underpowered weapons.

I used to have one of those "tactical" batman style "gun belts" with that connector thingy.. I saw an add for a ratcheting Next belt, figured I'd give it a try and omg is it infinitely better than those stupid batman belts.. makes it so much easier and more comfortable to carry. The belt is semi rigid and with the ratcheting mechanism you can cinch it down or losen it slightly as needed when standing, walking, running or sitting.. I love my Next belt, I recommend it to anyone that carries. I'm glad I saw that ad on a youtubers video.

Three things to add. 1. Don't buy a gun you won't carry. This guy carries a full sized 1911 and God love him. 95% of CCW's will not do this. Carry a gun that you almost forget is there. For me that's a Glock 19. 2. Make it easy to put the gun on and take it off. I switched to IWB belt clip holster because the thread through type holster was just too much trouble. 3. Have a spare quick gun like a Ruger LCR or LC380 that slips into your pocket in 2 seconds. That's the gun you have on you when you are just running out to your car because you forgot something and shit happens to you.

I know a guy who perforated his posterior SOB carry. I have seen you tube videos of people shooting themselves in 3 & 4 o'clock carry. Is the reason I have never seen an appendix carry accident because when the femoral artery get blasted there is no one left to tell the tale or post the video. Cross draw is much better in a car and the gun is covering the cop's foot, not my leg.

Quite a number of serious lumbar spinal fractures have happened with SOB carry, if you get knocked on your ass, the gun isn't going to give, your bones will. The accidental discharges into the gluteus maximus, well, poor trigger discipline. NEVER draw with your finger in the trigger guard.

The premise surrounding the idea of carrying an extra magazine is not ammo related, its malfunction related. Sure, an extra magazine will hold extra ammunition, but considering the fact that 9/10 handgun malfunctions is magazine related - I want magazines available when and if I need them. Also, why would you want to limit yourself when it comes to having ammunition available? I couldn't imagine the feeling of running out of ammunition and having to go to my blade in a gunfight. In that case, you cant have enough ammunition. You talk about the fact that you couldn't imagine needing more than 16 or 17 rounds, but shit happens. Mistaken identity, multiple threats, threats who are better armed (school shooter), threats with vendettas, etc. My typical load out is a Glock 19 (appendix), a Glock 17 magazine at my waistline, a Glock 17 magazine in my left front pocket, a Glock 26 on my left ankle, a handheld light, a knife, a tourniquet and a 50g package of quikclot.

Look man, I respect your vids but seriously? Only carry a firearm with ZERO reloads?!? With all this jihadi BS going on lately, not to mention the area you might be in (soft target...etc) you should carry MORE rounds. I don't mean you should carry a bandolier of ammo,and a AR-15 Pistol strapped across your chest but at least have *one* backup magazine (if you have a single stack, more than one!) "Man I wish I didn't have all this ammo!" *said nobody after a gunfight EVER* Food for thought is all I'm saying. Carry what's comfortable, but definitely *carry*, and if you can carry more ammo, why not? Also, the flashlight thing, there is exactly zero reasons NOT to have one on you at all times, out here in the sticks we don't have street lights just sayin'! When it gets dark, it gets DARK and that smartphone light ain't gonna help you in the least!

+Rich Nothing wrong with keeping a couple extra mags in a vehicle, or gear bag, but yeah, unless youre wearing around a duty rig everywhere, an extra mag, to get out of trouble, or fight your way back to your stash, is about all thats practical. Better to carry a backup weapon, than a whole bunch of extra magazines. I mean, if youre in such a bad situation that youre going to expend more than 15 or 20 rounds, losing your only weapon is probably a bigger concern than a few more rounds, on your belt.

He said always carry your Flashlight and Watch,,,, today in 2016 people carry a smartphone which has it both... I can understand carrying a knife while hiking but come on not every day, and the belt from Wal-Mart works Ok for smaller gun as Glock 26, but carrying 911 everyday there is no way to make it feel comfortable don't matter what belt you have....

Velizar Milutinovic I carry a 1911 every day and it's perfectly comfortable. Belt and holster count for a lot. Secondly, the flashlight on most cell phones is total garbage compared to even the cheapest tactical flashlight. Third, in my other line of work there are plenty of circumstances where I'd want to know the time but can't just whip my phone out and look at it.

Velizar Milutinovic I don't necessarily disagree with that, but I just prefer a specialized tool for jobs like that.

Your smartphone is a jack of all trades, and a master of none. Dedicated tools are ALWAYS better for the job.

And I find it hard to believe that ANYONE would understand the need to carry a gun but in the same sentence question the need for a knife. A knife is the most basic tool known to mankind. EVERYONE should carry one, with or without a gun, flashlight, watch, or anything else. Knife. Always.
