Make sure you let each layer dry thoroughly, if not it'll ruin all the layers.

Yes sir. After every coat of spray, let it dry first . Otherwise next step of paint will not stick

@@mrniceguy0531 around 1/2 hour with a fan blowing it. We were rushing it for the video, hence we used hairdryer with low heat. Make sure you fasten all the parts or lay flat, if not it’ll be flying pieces of Gunpla. 😆

I've put enamels on top of acrylic. Mineral spirits will remove the enamel, but leave dry acrylic alone.

About 15 minutes with a fan blowing at it, as we need to film the whole process in a day. Best is to leave it a bit longer and do other parts while waiting for it to dry.

The primer and gold paint are lacquer-based, and the enamel thinner doesn't affect those. Meaning the enamel paint is the only thing that gets wicked away

Why does the enamel thinner wipe away the enamel black and not the lacquer gold. Isn't lacquer an enamel?

Lacquer and Enamel have different properties. Lacquer based paint has higher chemical resistance. The biggest difference between lacquer and enamel paint is that lacquer is a coating and enamel paint is a paint meant for coloring.

During the demo he used a hairdryer to dry it faster. Each layer takes about 2min. But if you want to dry it thoroughly without rushing it will be about 15-20min

How does the paint thinner remove only the black topcoat but not the gold paint underneath it.

Lacquer is used for the first two layers, which uses a different thinner than the Enamel paint used for the last. I think you can also do this with Acrylic for the last layer and use rubbing alcohol for the thinner.

The black paint is enamel which is a lot weaker then lacquer paint

Why bother do the black lacquer? Why not straight to lacquer gold, then black enamel?

The first black layer is the primer. Primer layer has many functions, to allow next layer to stick better, to reveal flaws in surfaces. For many metallic paints, a black primer will also help to make the metallic layer more brilliant.
