Guthrie's a wonderful funny human being , one can see the utter joy he gets, allowing these brilliantly gifted musicians to play with him . First of all you would have to be exceptional just to get the request / opportunity . Secondly , what a boost to one's confidence, and acceptance in the music scene, to be able to say they've played with Guthrie . Its akin to getting a degree ! .....

Another suggestion for a listen- Maha Ganapathim" Cassical Fusion song Mohini Dey has an indescribable solo in this song at about 10:30 that you don't want to miss--if you are into bass. The song is one of my favorite examples of the phenomenal music from India.

I think it was a friend in Japan who shot that video. I guess I'd classify Senri as a 'fusion' drummer, in the sense that 'fusion' (at least originally), means a combination of jazz and rock which came from the early '70s Herbie Hancock 'Headhunters' album era, Weather Report, Jeff Beck, Alan Holdsworth, etc., with a little 'prog' sprinkled in. Just imagine- some of the shows Senri has done in clubs in Tokyo (including perhaps this one) were about the equivalent of maybe $40 U.S. for a ticket! Meanwhile, you'd have to pay at least $300 to be this close to some famous pop tripe act in concert, with about 1/1000th of the talent! You might want to check out Hiromi, whom Senri has expressed a desire to play with, amongst people she wishes she could play with the most.

Found her BBC video so I will add that for Hiromi. Jazz is great cause like you said, it is usually cheaper to go see and you usually get something amazing when you go and listen to them compared to the top 20 charts today.

if you get a change to listen to my first 2 recommendations, try these next Zomby Woof by Mike Keneally and the Aristocrats(Mike DESTROYS!!!!!), and another Mohini Dey song -Pace of Mind (version 2). this last one is another Indian fusion song but the reactions of the musicians is just unreal. I feel like I am on LCD when I watch this video.

Ummm...am I the only person noticing that the audio in the Guthrie Govan clip is BADLY out of sync here? The video is almost a full second ahead of the audio. 😕
