Here’s a few ideas from the C shape. Don’t forget to work on visualizing the 5 chord shapes. That is THE secret!
Some John Oates rehearsal clips at the end for fun. I love these guys!

Yes, as mentioned, we know what ya meant. Thank you so very much for all of your valuable tips. I’m gonna say in a regular comment how much priceless info is in all of your videos. I take more from your little concept vids than I did from the lifetime membership I bought from a different guy. So thank you thank you. I plan to buy a real lesson soon from you man. Thanks again.

1968. Washington U field house in St. Louis. Standing to the side when a beautiful blonde came up to me and handed me a flower. I stood there for a short time with my eyes closed smelling the flower. I got the feeling I was being watched. I opened my eyes and a man was standing in front of me smiling. He was enjoying the moment also (I think he witnessed the whole thing). He then got up on stage- it was Taj ( it was great) and Jesse Ed Davis was incredible.

Your videos are GOLD!! I’ve been playing for over 30 years. I can learn songs and play them well. I can even shred a little bit, but playing over changes and having something to say is something I’ve always struggled with. The way you break things down in your lessons is helping me tremendously! I’m starting to connect the dots on in a way that’s always seemed elusive in the past. This is practical theory that every guitar player should know. You’re an excellent teacher. Thank You!!

Listening to my heros all my life and then one day I woke up and just noticed how old they all got. But these days, we watch our heros everyday and see them have aches and pains in real time. You're getting old Guthrie and you're falling apart.😄 Just keep track of the pieces. Somebody'll make sure they all get in the same box in the end.✌

Maybe the best most useful lesson yet, after hundreds of best most useful. Huge thanks for this one, all previous, and those yet-to-come. Don't worry about using CAGED terminology. It's lingo that we all should know and allows instant visual focus and finger memory recall of the shapes. CAGED is based on first position chords which are the first things we learn -- now we learn how to carry it up the neck. Simple fact: this is how you play the guitar. It's style agnostic -- here's where the notes are -- you can do whatever you want with them. Thanks again Guthrie!

Huge fan of the concept that ‘lead and rhythm’ are one in the same. My songwriting has grown drastically and been able to do more with one backing guitar by hybrid picking my rhythms like this than I did with 5 layers before.

If I saw you at a bar with your thumb in a bucket of ice, my first thought would probably be, "Ah, that must be his REAL secret...." In all seriousness, glad your injured thumb isn't holding things up too badly. I love moving the C-shape around the neck and I'm always trying to imply the chord changes wherever it makes sense to; you mapped it all very nicely and gave us another (and for me easier!) way to approach it all. One of these day I'm gonna get a lesson booked with you for sure. Thanks for sharing!

Some viewers expect you to be "all things to all people". They need to remember that you are producing and delivering this content completely free of charge. I'm more than happy to take what I can (from a world class player) and leave the rest. This means that not every second of every video is the best thing I've ever seen on YT. And that's fine by me! I've learned a ton over the last 2-3 years and continue to learn plenty. Does it get any better? Thank you Guthrie.
