As a former rat owner, rats clean themselves very frequently, even more often than cats. Outside of households, rats aren't any more likely to get you sick than pigeons, crows, squirrels or any other animals that get around in similar environments. They still potentially can, of course, but so can many other animals in the wild.

The plague just gave them a bad reputation. Not to mention that if they are carrying any kind of disease, I feel like you're more likely to be exposed to them in a way that might transmit it than a lot of other critters. After all, you're not likely to have a crow or squirrel running around inside your house.

Funny story. Remy's voice actor is also a comedian by trade and profession. He got the job doing an iconic standup bit describing the endless amount of food at a restaurant. The director loved the delivery of how he described each food item that he instantly called him for an audition. It was Patton Oswald who also has a bit about ranting about Star War. He is a funny man.

This movie has always seemed like a real flex from the old Pixar. They had put out a string of iconic animated masterpieces, including a heart warming comedy about monsters exploiting children, and it just seems like somebody said something silly to Brad Bird at a party...like "LOL You folks have had so many hits, you had better be careful not to get too cocky...next thing you know you will try something insane like make a movie with rats as the main characters." And Brad Bird just replied..."Oh yeah?! Hold my beer!" 😜😂😁

Ego is a great antagonist. I hesitate to call him a villain. He embodies why critics even do what they do. They feel and love their chosen material so much that it can weigh on them. He shows a real possible perspective change that can occur when you encounter something unimaginably beautiful. In a word, he's a real one in a sea of cynical criticism made for clicks and shallow engagement. He saw something great and didn't back down declaring it's excellence in front of absolutely everyone. He's what every critic wishes they were. And provides an eyefull for what good ones do even in the face of backlash. Ego has a bit of a fandom with actual critics for showing them in a better light. That they're not all heartless monsters who thrive on crushing people for perceived slights.

Like any good critic, his scathing negative reviews are motivated by a genuine love of great art, in this case great food. His positive reviews are only meaningful if he is brutally honest, because then a positive review holds far more weight. This guy hates everything but the best, if he said "it was nice" that speaks volumes it must be a damn masterpiece to impress him

Also the main theme of the movie, "Le Festin". The lyrics tell the story of a thief who wants to create and make things so he becomes a cook, a chef even. And the trails he went to get there. Word getting out and world turning inside out for him. Perfectly describes our Remy.

This and The Incredibles were my damn childhood. Such awesome movies from what is probably Pixar's golden age. Fun fact: Rats ,contrary to popular belief, are suprisingly clean animals as they clean/groom themselves and/or each other several times a day and don't transfer diseases or parasytes that cats and dogs can.

I never knew until recently that "This heartbreaking story was not an invention. Pixar took inspiration from Bernard Loiseau, a gastronomical legend from France who died by suicide when he found out about a star that was going to be knocked off. Thanks to Remy, I like to combine flavors for a tasty rhythm. Two things that were important to me growing up were my mom’s home-cooked meals and Pixar. I would eat whatever my mom would make for us. I've got some stories about mice but I'll share my favorite. Had a mouse find my stash and ate my mushrooms. One night, my wife and I kept hearing weird noises and something bumping into the walls. Finally, we found a scared mouse, freaking out in the spare bedroom 😂😂😂 Probably had a bad night. We didn't want to mess with it while it was freaking out but we trapped it the next day and released it in the fields around our house.

I once stepped on a mouse while walking to the store. I was just strolling along, minding my own business, when I stepped on something and heard a loud squeak. I kept walking for a moment, perplexed by what my neighbor's dog's chew toy was doing a few blocks away because the squeak sounded exactly the same. Then I turned around, and there was this mouse just staring back at me. Then I moved along, hoping that didn't hurt it too badly.

If you haven't seen it yet, there's a live-action movie called "Chef" that is very much worth a watch. It stars Jon Favreau as a restaurant chef who self-destructs and has to re-invent himself. It's got a great cast with a lot of cameos from people from various Marvel movies (Favreau played Happy, Tony Stark's bodyguard/chauffeur/assistant, but was also the guy who directed Iron Man). The first 20 minutes or so are a bit grim, because that's the destruction and low point, but after that it's a wonderful movie. I highly recommend it.

When you watch films about those that are living other than humans, it does promote empathy towards these creatures, however, as I was eating while watching your reaction, I still lost my appetite and the hair on my arms were standing during the scenes where there's a swarm of rats LOL. I welcome the awareness of how we should treat all living things around us but some things can't be changed coz these traits are far from reality in a set-up that is realistic (meaning there are no magic or anything that defies logic except the mouse being able to read and understand humans).

And finally the saying "Anyone Can Cook" I believe he lost his star to the restaurant because the rat died then he died from a broken heart because his rat friend passed.
