Cute fun fact: The Rock's little daughter absolutely loves the movie and the songs, so he thought she'd love to know that her daddy voice-acts the demigod. He started to sing along "you're welcome" - but his little one didn't believe that that's him and got a bit mad at him for "pretending" 😂

The instant she gave it to Moana, she began to die. And yes, the glowing ray you see when Moana leaves is her grandmother's spirit chasing after her to lead her - and follow her - on her journey.

Agreed! I've used this movie as an example for explaining the difference between writing a dymamic and relateable female lead, and the unchanging, lifeless female leads we've seen so many times in the past few years- many from the same studio, no less. I sincerely hope Disney finds their way back to making movies like this.

There's also scientific reason for the blight on the island. The people were overfishing and overharvesting the food. That's why Moana's people traveled the islands. It's so that the islands could replenish their natural bounty and health while the humans were on the other islands.

New Zealand has alot of Maui's tales and in Maori Native language of my home Moana means The Sea/Ocean, Seafood is called Kaimoana. Another awesome reaction brotha

My former coworkers/ bosses Ron Clements and John Musker directed Moana. They also directed the The Great Mouse Detective, Little Mermaid (1989), Aladdin (1992), Hercules, Treasure Planet, and The Princess and the Frog. They're both retired now, as we're all getting freakin' OLD now, lol!

For me, the best recent Disney films are not about romantic love but love more important. Love of your self and love of your family, especially found family. Also, my favorite scene is where the grandmother admits that this quest was a huge ask and it was okay to quit if Moana truly believed she couldn't do it. "You must finish what you start" as a universal truism is one of the most toxic positivity sayings out there. If finishing the thing will cause more harm than good, it is okay to stop.

It is a great film, mixing computer animation with hand-drawn animation. It's also directed by John Musker and Ron Clemments, the guys who directed The Great Mouse Detective in 1986, The Little Mermaid in 1989, Aladdin in 1992, Hercules in 1997, Treasure Planet in 2002, and The Princess and the Frog in 2009. You know, it honestly like Moana was the last good fully-animated feature film from Disney. We've gotten a few decent short films post-Moana.
