Lol I totally agree my friends tell me I take too long to cook and I do crazy things like hand peel my potatoes and make sure there’s no little black stuff inside it and I wash everything like my onion and garlic lol apparently that’s crazy but whatever they can’t stop eating or getting enough of my Guyanese food hmmm I wonder why and yes my grandma , mom, grandpa and myself make our dhal the same way but I must say I never try the Green dhal I will definitely will be trying this out next thank you again !

deepa pitamber-zack lol yep it's all the small steps that make the food taste good. And the green dhal doesnt add a different taste that's just the way my mom buys it. But you can use just yellow.

I've been trying to make dhal for years and it never came out right. My one grandmother lives in FL and has dementia so her trying to give me the directions step by step has been difficult for her. My other grandmother can't give directions over the phone. She lives in NY & is more of a 'hands on' person. Getting directions from her stressed her out a bit. But let me say, I just made it & it came out PERFECT. Thanks to you & Alica. I've been following her blog for years, trying one recipe at a time and I finally got the courage to try this again with help from your video. More collabs please!

Great points in the beginning about the "put downs" within the community. WHYYY. As a kid going to my cousins or friends houses was great BECAUSE of these differences in recipes. I would always look forward to "aunty jackies dhal" or "aunty leetas curry". I think its ignorant that people could think theres only one way to do things. Btw the foam when boiling lentils or legumes is denatured proteins floating to the top! My grandma used to say "dont turn in di scum, must scrape it out" LOL.

Awhile back I stumbled upon Alicia's website and I totally agree about getting hungry instantly or cravings rather..she's really good ...am waiting for her mom's version of duck curry lol. Just like our foods have different variations so does people....we all come from different household with different personalities and some of us could be really mean and difficult. So, just ignore the negative comments and continue your great work. You're giving us especially the young our culture in foods which always brings people and families together and that's more than enough. Thank you for putting the time and effort. God bless you and your family especially Grandma. You're lucky to have her around and enjoy her food💖💖
