Hi Mattew i was looking for a Guyanese roti tutorial on KZbin,I have viewed quite a few but I ultimately decided to go with your recipe,boy I followed your recipe to a tea lol....I made a batch of 7 roti and they all came out soft and flaky.I even made a batch of 7 for my Landlady she's a Guyanese as well and she complimented me on my roti making skills😂! Now all I has to do is to memorize your roti recipe so I don't have to keep going on your channel for it,not that it's a bad thing but I wants to impress my friends and families on my roti making skills haha.I grew up in a house back in Guyana where roti uses to be cook all the time,my mother is East Indian and my father is a Black,never learnt to master it then but now I am making it good really good hahaha thanks to a fine young man on KZbin.

Matthew's Guyanese Cooking do you have any suggestions for side dishes to try with the roti. I was thinking of making a Swedish dish called Korvstrogonoff ( a Swedish dish that has a delicious red sauce) to compliment it but I am up for suggestions.
@matthewsguyanesecooking46016 жыл бұрын
Corey williams You can definitely eat it with dishes from other cultures. It can be eaten with any type of meat or veggie stew. I also have a few Guyanese vegetarian and meat dishes that can be eaten with the roti. If you are looking for something quick and really good I recommend the fried pumpkin recipe I have on my channel. It's my favorite with roti.

Thank you so much. My mom gave me a recipe for making roti, but it's not precise and sometimes gets crunchy (am I not using enough water, making it sit too long and dry out or making it toast on the tawah???). I always thought I had to use ghee to make roti....I'll definitely be trying your recipe since it looks so delicious 😛.
@matthewsguyanesecooking46016 жыл бұрын
Ms. Perfectly Imperfect Hi there! If its coming out to crunchy then maybe its too much baking powder or youre cooking it too long. You can use ghee, butter, oil, shortening (really anything you prefer). And thank you very much! Let me know how it comes out.

Hi, love your vid. question, did you let the dough rest in any of the process or is it ok to cook it right away?
@matthewsguyanesecooking46017 жыл бұрын
If you wanted to you could allow it to rest once you have oiled the roti for about 30 minutes, but the resting really isn't needed. You can go ahead and cook it right away; I usually cook it right away and they still come out really soft. Please subscribe to be notified on when I post new videos, and thank you for watching. :)
@vivakanandpersaud84477 жыл бұрын
thank you for the reply, also how high do you have the heat.
@matthewsguyanesecooking46017 жыл бұрын
You want to heat the tawa on a high heat, and once the tawa is hot and you put your first roti on you need to lower it to medium so that the rotis don't cook too fast or burn.

Dawn masoetsa So I recommend you get the black one (the iron one) versus the silver (aluminum) one. But if you get the silver one too itll cook the roti fine. I got this pan from my grandmother. Usually you can get it from a west Indian store (I dont know if they sell these online).
