my grandmother lived with us and she taught me a lot of things including cooking, even though she was blind. i honour her just like i know you honour yours.
WOW! Excellent instructions, very articulate. This is exactly how my grandmother taught me to make paratha roti. You've done an excellent job explaining how to prepare the various dishes on ALL your videos. I am not Guyanese and I am proud of you. I know all of your country people must be so proud of you. :)

Hi Matthew! I just recently found your channel and I wanted to say a big THANK YOU! Growing up as a mixed kid, I didn't get the chance to learn all of these recipes. Now that I'm older, I'm caring for my elderly Guyanese father and I've been finding it difficult cooking for him. I just made him some oil roti, pumpkin, channa masala and bhajee for the first time for him after watching your videos and it was a complete success! It's the first time he's told me that my food "eat nice" xD Thank you so very much!

Hi Matthew, I've been really grateful for your videos lately. I play this one, like 50 times, as I make roti just to make sure I feel confident as I make it. I'm Guyanese and didn't grow up knowing how to cook many things, but with COVID and being homesick, I've been learning how to make my favorites - through your videos and my parents' advice.

With your help and excellent video instructions I was able to finally master my mother-in-law’s Guyanese roti recipe! Her recipe is just like yours except she adds salt. Thank you for explaining the way to oil the roti and how to cook it on the tawa. I got the most “puff” using the 2nd oiling/rolling method. But even the ones I made with the first method were flaky and soft. Using warm water also was new for me and really helped me get the dough just right. My husband was most impressed this morning when he tried them! Thank you!

It really is some good stuff. You can actually use this roti as a wrapping for anything really. I made it for one of my teachers once and she wrapped up shredded Cuban pork in it. All you have to do is make sure not to clap it too much so that it doesn't tear, and then you can use it as a tortilla/pita.
