People start their periods earlier on average in present times compared to the 1800's partially because food scarcity and manual labour for children is less common

Typical age is anywhere between 11 to 14 years old. 8-9 years isn't completely uncommon either. I was 9. All of my paternal aunts and cousins started their periods by 8-9 years old. I have a huge family. I have 30 first cousins. Whenever one of my cousins (male or female) has a girl, usually by the age of 5-7 they are preparing their partner/spouse that their child is likely to start their period by 8-9 years old. It's an interesting genetic fact about my family! 🤷‍♀️
