This makes me happy and sad. I watch these wonderful moments but can't forget that so many of these girls and young women were abused not just by a sadistic doctor but by an entire system. What will the future hold for U.S. woman's gymnastics? We still don't have a national coach or team coordinator, we don't have a national training center, the next generation of gymnasts doesn't seem to have the same skill level and polish two years out from our next Olympics. Countries like Great Britain and Brazil are on the rise and countries like the Netherlands are figuring out how to use the COP to their advantage. While I like to see diversity in gymnasts, of course I want the U.S. to always do well. I wonder what the next two years will look like going into 2020.

Candace B. Once the system (as awful as the system can be) falls, so does the quality. Its the price a country pays to give children a voice and to change a system to a place of safety and ethics. Romania fell after their rigorous training system collapsed and so did Russia. However, as we saw with Russia, teams can come back but this is a huge hit to USA gymnastics. It will take decades to recover and a full recovery isnt possible. However, do i really care about seeing team USA on top? No. I think that is foolish. Teams fall in and out of power, its normal. What I do care about is seeing these ladies treated with the respect they deserve. I would sacrifice all our future success for the safety of these beautiful souls. Marta thought of these girls as expandable tools she could play with to create a dynasty. She never really cared about them as individuals. This is how the Romania system survived (where she and bella came from). It was always about the country and look what happened to them. Complete collapse. This and all sports need to find a balance between success and respect for a persons needs. These children sacrifice too much right now and many suffer major mental problems. These children need a voice and they need a voice NOW.
