The fact that she’s even better now should terrify people, especially gymnasts. Update: Simone Biles qualified first over all (with the best score at the games), was pulled for mental health reason (doesn’t mean she’s weak) and also qualified for EVERY final at the Olympic Games. She also has the “Twisties” which makes her to be unable to have physical awareness in the air meaning she could literally fall on her neck. A healthy Simone Biles cannot lose seeing as she qualified first. Mental health is physical health. All comments disregarding it is ignorant of the facts. Also, her aunt died during her time competing.

Xav Champ Why can’t all of them have changed the sport? In the 70s Korbut and Comaneci pioneered new skills that set the foundation for future gymnasts. 40 years later Biles would push difficulty so far ahead that we saw huge numbers of gymnasts increasing their difficulty in turn (especially on floor, where most finalists now have H-skills). They’re all incredible gymnasts and we can praise Biles without detracting from her predecessors.

@@alexa3634 I think people just didn’t like the excuse. It was too vague, and people don’t understand what the difference was between now and when she was in rio. And then what about the pressure that she now puts on her teammates, or what about the spot she’s taking from some other girl who wanted to be there. It’s just really strange and people don’t understand how the most famous gymnast in the world just suddenly decided not to perform. It’s like Tom Brady getting to the super bowl and decided he couldn’t play because he was too nervous and anxious. Aren’t these professionals? Edit 2 years later (28 July) - This comment has aged horribly and after yesterday's fiasco and Simone pulling out of AA finals, I want to say I support her in whatever decision she makes to look after her mental health. It’s also worth noting that they decreased all the scores by 0.5 for the 2017-2020 code. So a 15.433 now is equivalent to a 15.933 in 2016. So if Simone can get above 15.433 on a floor routine in Tokyo, that’s when you’ll know she’s surpassed this one!
