The fact that Gyp never denied it is what's more impressive. Didnt even try to soothe Joe, just looked at him and owned it. *ALWAYS LOVED HOW GYP DOESNT SPEAK ITALIAN UNTIL HE GETS EMOTIONAL. HOW A MULTILINGUAL PERSON ACTUALLY SPEAKS*
@SantomPh
@SantomPh 4 жыл бұрын
the actor, Bobby Canavale doesn't speak Italian so they minimized his Italian dialogue. The actor that plays Lucky Luciano , Vincent Piazza had to have coaching from relatives in how to speak Sicilian in the manner the mobsters did. Stephen Graham likewise doesn't speak Italian but worked with dialect coaches to speak his Naepolitan lines to his onscreen mother and family.
@elkresurgence
@elkresurgence 2 жыл бұрын
@@SantomPh this was actually kinda fortunate compared to Giancarlo Esposito speaking all his Spanish lines with a weird accent throughout BB and BCS. Producers face a difficult predicament when bringing in a fluent but non-native speaker for these things. You don't want to offend the actor by making him say all his lines in English, but then your product suffers because the guy doesn't do convincing enough a job linguistically.

The old guard oftentimes don't view themselves as such, and think their authority is something that will be respected forever by everyone. A fatal mistake made over and over throughout history.

@pasjonatpl
@pasjonatpl 4 жыл бұрын
As far I know they did it because Masseria and Maranzano were too narrow minded and wouldn't accept the new structure of the Cosa Nostra. It wasn't an ambition to take their place. For example, Nucky joined the commission. First big meeting took a place in Atlantic City and then bosses decided to eliminate "moustache Petes", i.e. gangsters who wanted to run their businesses in the old way. If any of them accepted these changes, could survive. After all, Nucky was old guard but there was a place for him. Too bad it wasn't in the fifth season.

One of the best written and performed scenes in TV or Cinema. Starting in the 90's they really upped the ante in television production quality to the point it's like watching a really, really long movie and it started with the likes of The X-Files and then it swiftly moved up a few notches with HBO's The Wire and The Sopranos, but now it's evolved even further with shows like this and GoT, got to respect their craft.

@@d0cn0tes Not really, Gyp was using alot of Joe's soldiers. Once he got rid of the hierachy i'm sure one of Joe's soldiers would have put a vent in the back of Gyp's head. Bosses watch every detail of everything and their senses are on high so he knew eventually Gyp would make a move and had to go. Just my opinion. You could be right too tho..either way someone was going in this situation. Cheers!

The fact that Gyp managed to talk himself out of this is even more impressive when you realize how right Joe was to have him whacked, at least by mob standards. As Joe put it: "You make a war in New Jersey, bodies on the road, but you can't hold on to 20 blocks here where you belong!" Translation: "You made a big bloody mess out of state in a way that guarantees you get heat from the law, while also losing control of much of your territory here in NY. Which is also MY territory since you're one of my capos. So you've cost me money, turf, men AND you've brought the law to my door. You're dead."

I really like the portrayal of gyp rosetti: he got to the top with guts, ambition and good ol fashioned not giving a fuck. In any other show, he'd be the protagonist against the established Nucky Thompson, but in this world if you don't got the brains to wise up, you wouldn't last. In fact, he had a pretty strong run all things considered...too bad he fell just a little short in the end. One has to wonder if Joe sparing him and leaving him there all that time in a belief that gyp would come out on top, or he has his money on gyp failing but will still make a big enough mess for Joe's future endeavors.
