the actor, Bobby Canavale doesn't speak Italian so they minimized his Italian dialogue. The actor that plays Lucky Luciano , Vincent Piazza had to have coaching from relatives in how to speak Sicilian in the manner the mobsters did. As far I know they did it because Masseria and Maranzano were too narrow minded and wouldn't accept the new structure of the Cosa Nostra. It wasn't an ambition to take their place. For example, Nucky joined the commission. First big meeting took a place in Atlantic City and then bosses decided to eliminate "moustache Petes", i.e. gangsters who wanted to run their businesses in the old way. If any of them accepted these changes, could survive. After all, Nucky was old guard but there was a place for him. Too bad it wasn't in the fifth season.

1:12 Masseria does this a lot in the series making a (veiled) threat while making some sort of subtle physical contact

The dialog in this scene is masterful, as is the acting. Ivo Nandi (Masseria) was absolutely fantastic. So well cast.

Gyp was speaking straight from the heart "who's going to own this business huh AFTER ALL THE BLOOD WE PUT INTO IT" "WHAT ABOUT US " give me your blessing but with enough juice to stick !!!!

Gyp being a psychopath but still has so much fear and respect for Joe

I thought it was fascinating how the only person who scared Gyp was Masseria. Gyp was a crazy psycho who never held back, except when he was in front of masseria.

The fact that Gyp managed to talk himself out of this is even more impressive when you realize how right Joe was to have him whacked, at least by mob standards. As Joe put it: "You make a war in New Jersey, bodies on the road, but you can't hold on to 20 blocks here where you belong!" Translation: "You made a big bloody mess out of state in a way that guarantees you get heat from the law, while also losing control of much of your territory here in NY. Which is also MY territory since you're one of my capos. So you've cost me money, turf, men AND you've brought the law to my door. You're dead."

I really like the portrayal of gyp rosetti: he got to the top with guts, ambition and good ol fashioned not giving a fuck. In any other show, he'd be the protagonist against the established Nucky Thompson, but in this world if you don't got the brains to wise up, you wouldn't last. In fact, he had a pretty strong run all things considered...too bad he fell just a little short in the end. One has to wonder if Joe sparing him and leaving him there all that time in a belief that gyp would come out on top, or he has his money on gyp failing but will still make a big enough mess for Joe's future endeavors.

Gyp was really quick witted. Imagine the kind of pressure he felt knowing he was seconds/minutes away from getting wacked. Most would plead for their life but he was able to be smart/calculated. He knew Masseria needed a reason to keep him alive. Great delivery by Bobby. Amazing scene.
