Thank you, an exceptionally succinct comprehension of music theory, and how to apply it in practice; appreciated, not to omit the reality that you are a great musician too.Respect!

Once again.......David has not just merely cracked open the door into new and exciting directions into playing diverse fingerstyle blues guitar........he's kicked it wide open!! I always loved David's similar examples on his fantastic "New School Fingerstyle" course........especially on his 'Bryant on Six' arrangement but this opens up our fingerpickin' into an entirely new level!! Plus......Once again........love it!! Jim C.

Thanks Jim! As far as "Bryant" goes...more E blues coming, so stay tuned :-).

Thank you David for another great lesson! I have always loved the playing of Leon Redbone, and this lesson leads down some of his alleys. Walking Stick and the like.
@FretboardConfidential6 жыл бұрын
Hey Fred - thanks! If that's the song I'm thinking of, then yes I suppose these moves would indeed work. I'll have to go check out Redbone's version - there's a great one by mandolinist/singer Tom Rozum that I really like.

Nice job, liked and subscribed...I particularly liked how you referenced other famous songs that contained some of those chord shapes

Thanks! Seems it always helps me remember an idea like that it I can fold it into a specific song or two. Plus, more bang for your buck if it works in multiple scenarios!

Another beauty, David! Barry Harris, from "The Sidewinder"--too cool!
@FretboardConfidential6 жыл бұрын
That's the one! Harris tells a great story in David Rosenthal's book Hard Bop about how - I think it was after that Lee Morgan session, he went up to Alfred Lion's office to see about making a record of his own for Blue Note. Lion declined to sign Harris, telling the pianist his playing was "too beautiful." Asked how he responded, Barry Harris said "I thanked the man, and walked out."

Great lesson--I know what I'll (happily!) be doing for the next month or so! After watching this I went back and listened to your TrueFire tune/lesson Letter to Alfred--they seem to pair nicely. Anyway, thanks, David--and thanks to Barry Harris too!

Hey Scott - thanks! Yes, I suppose they would - similar chord changes, and in the same key with a similar groove, of course. Can't remember if I mentioned it in this lesson, but a quick search will turn up multiple lengthy videos of Barry Harris teaching, and in at least some cases discussing his approach to chord movement.

That was cool David. Maybe you and I were there in the BH workshop on the same day! I took a few from the master and my teacher was very close to him. The scale tones you used are right out of his dim 6 scale and sound great finger style. I even tried using the DOMINANT 7 dim scale on the E min for a cool finish: xx7878 xx4545 x6757 x3424 x2313 x0223
