I have a little one that I got as an itty bitty sling after watching your first video. The second most expensive tarantula I own. Ive kept it like most asian species with deep sub and it's grown pretty quick. Ive never been able to find a molt but I dont think ive ever prayed so hard for a female, lol. I was expecting it to be a pet hole but almost every night it's legs are sticking out the little volcano. Mine is super lazy and just waits till the cricket gets right on top of her. I dont think ive ever seen it venture away from her burrow, even my I mira takes strolls every now and then.

Yeah, I think that this is my most expensive one, too. I'm doing the praying for a female as well. haha I actually catch mine out quite a bit, too. @@TomsBigSpiders I've got a quick question. My bf just ordered a Phormictopus sp. blue azul and we can't find any info on them. Is their care the same as for a regular sp. blue?
@TomsBigSpiders5 жыл бұрын
@@The_Joestar Okay, so the way it was explained to me is that there is a Phormictopus sp. "blue", like the one I have, that is kind of pinkish and blue. Then, there is supposedly one that looks black until you put it under light, and it has a blue sheen to it. That, I believe might be the "azul". That said, the genus is an absolute mess, and it could be another "species" entirely. Where did you get yours from. And congrats!

Hi, thank you for another excellent rehousing video. What a beautiful girl, with her purples and blues. I was wondering your thoughts regarding the dangers of products such as soil & vermiculite sold at garden centers? I've always been a little concerned not knowing exactly what's in those bags. But after hearing your Agway story (so sad) I'm reluctant to use anything other than zoo med/substrate specifically for pets. I heard you are using substrate from the Bio dude. I'll check that out. Also, I was wondering if you have any trap door spiders or if you know much about their care ? Either Ctenolophus Purcell or Liphistius Ornatus. I read conflicting opinions on substrate for L. Ornatus and was wondering your opinion. Thanks for being everyone's Go to T guy, your videos are much needed and appreciated. Have a great rest of your summer, take care /\(°°)/\
@TomsBigSpiders5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Donkey! Well, I had used two types of top soil for YEARS without issue...Timberline and Scott's. Never had an issue with either. One winter, I got in a spot and bought two bags of "organic" topsoil from Agway farm supply. I rehoused about 12 spiders, four scorpions, and all of my assassin bugs on it. Within 6 months, all were dead. The worst part is, it took me months to figure out what was causing the deaths. By that point, the damage had been done. The assassin bugs died within a week (including about two dozen nymphs I was raising). The scorpions and spiders ate great, fattened up, then either died before molting or during their molts. It was horrible. So, I went back to coco fiber for a bit, and now I'm using Bio Dude. I will eventually move back to using Timberline and Scott's again. As for the trap door spiders, I honestly don't have any experience with them. Sorry!

@TomsBigSpiders5 жыл бұрын
Man, I'm so sorry to hear that! I do hope that the job hunt goes well and that you get one that is even better than your last. There are a few New World species that would be considered fossorial. Try fittonia, or "nerve plant" in bioactives that need moisture. Fittonias love high humidity and are a good choice in terrariums and such. Peperomias are more succulent-like plants and I find often don't like their roots being wet all the time.

Hey Tom, not too much info on these, how big do they get? Lifespan?
@TomsBigSpiders4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Christian! They are so new to the hobby, that I doubt anyone has an accurate lifespan for them yet. At the rate they mature, I would guess at least 10-12 years for a female. I spoke to a buddy who has a mature female, and she's about 4" or so. They are on the smaller side. Hope that helps!
@christianstrande60844 жыл бұрын
That definitely gives me more insight, I figured they were on the smaller side, that also makes sense with them maturing out pretty quick as well.. thank you for your response :D

I would use red clay dirt for these guys tbh. That's pretty smart putting a live plant in there lol Some good fertilizer from all of that T. turd and food bolus that she throws maybe underground but I never kept this species before so am not quite sure if they throw their waste product underground or flick em outside??
@TomsBigSpiders3 жыл бұрын
They usually poo and drag their waste outside of their burrows.
@jerumd3 жыл бұрын
@@TomsBigSpiders My P. muticus will actually incorporate it as part of her burrow Lol! Thankfully I have dwarf whites and springtails down there to aid on those ridiculous amount of waste she's been storing down there. Maybe they're to dependent on African Nightcrawlers in the wild to eat their waste for them is probably the reason why they never throw their waste outside like other fossorial species do 🤔 Am not entirely sure, but it's just a theoretical guess.
@RichardSim0nes5 жыл бұрын
You could just do a Poecilotheria t-shirt, and include a few different species.
@TomsBigSpiders5 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea as well! Thanks!

Polychromatic just means multi-colored. I love her cobalt blue carapace. She has really long legs. You did that like you are so practiced.
@TomsBigSpiders5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Joyce! And multi-colored she definitely is! I just can't ever remember the common names when it comes time to record. haha I DID get this one correct, though. Yay me! As always, thanks so much!

Sorry I know this is an old video but how long do the live for females? I have one but she isn’t looking so good I’ve had her for a while x

@TomsBigSpidersАй бұрын
Yeah, I'm not on TikTok unfortunately. Mine was a male, and I died after about 2 and a half years or so. I would guess that a female would live 8-10 years.

Thanks, Tracy! We'll see how it goes. I was actually shocked by the response I got when I first posted about them. I'm hoping the fact that I'll be doing more than just my logo will help. :)

It's not really a surprise about the metallica, but the species existed before the band (I imagine) so perhaps the full scientific name? That or use it's common name of Gooty Sapphire, perhaps gooty in smaller font. I LOVE that species, but I know I'll never own it, so I would Love a shirt with one on it
