I have actually had good luck with gunners on some aircraft. For example, the P-61s. When my gunners actually do their job, they do it well and usually get one or two kills per match when they actually work. Though they seem to not like doing things by themselves most of the time so it doesnt happen too often.

The only time I've seen AI gunners be that accurate and effective is when my P-61C top gunner killed a Bf 110 I was turning with in a dogfight. Saw that I couldn't get my cannons on target, and decided to take matters into his own hands.
