Could you make a video about the downsides of being a dealer? ie. chasing after deadbeats, how interest rates reflect risk. etc? Lots of whining on the tool channels about prices.

Really good video, Jermey. You do a great job, I'm from Duncan, BC, Canada on Vancouver Island, I've bought Snap-On Tools for 20 years, and never regretted anything. Great tools. This video in particular you did is very straight-up, and informative. We just recently got a new Snap-On franchisee owner Marty Frizzell in the Nanaimo/Duncan area on the island and he's doing a great job. Please keep doing these videos, they are great. I use your tools daily in maintaining logging and excavating equipment on my truck.

For you guys interested in seeing what is involved there are a couple of franchise agreements from a few years ago out on the internet as well as overviews from various sites about difference franchises. It works the same sort of way if you were a Taco Bell franchise. You pay a fee, pay monthly costs, get inventory from them. Jeremy has a great attitude but it's not a gig for everyone. For some of the guys complaining about the price, the dealer only has a 30% or so markup on most items. Diagnostic and boxes are better and you can buy in on specials. To make money you've got to work you butt off.

Nice video! I have been using Snap on tools for 20 years. I have had some good Snap on dealers and a few bad ones. My first snap on guy co signed my loan after I paid for tools in cash after 1 year of buying them. I was a apprentice and had bad credit at the time. I also have had a bad snap on dealer who barely stopped by because most of the mechanics were old timers and all he cared about was new meat who wanted to buy tool boxes and large sets. A good snap on dealer will get your tools ASAP. I am paying a premium. I want it yesterday. The best snap on guy I had would stop by your house on a weekend and have a beer and deliver tools.

Love your vids. I really liked seeing how you sent stuff back to snap on for warranty. I had always wondered how that worked with dealers. As a DIYer and side work guy I don't buy many snap on tools but the ones I have I have had forever and I like them all. I lost my snap on rep about 10 years ago that I bought from which sucked be cause he gave me a truck account so I could make payments on stuff which they don't usually do for DIYers. I have made a relationship with a new guy in the town where I work. I saw a truck at local shop and noticed he stopped at each week on my lunch hour. I decided to stop and walk on the truck one day to get a 10mm impact socket. I had money and he was happy to sell me stuff. I am trying to talk him in to letting me make a down payment and bi-weekly payments on a used Verus now.

Is there a way to get in contact with snap-on to work with a franchisee as a employee? I sell sewing machines and vacuum cleaners, I also repair them but thats a part time job at my moms business. I used to do it full time but I was stressed and stepped down and got frugal with my spending because being in sales I set goals for myself to keep going to the next week without having to devote my young life to working it away. I'll be 29 in a couple weeks but i've always had a interest in a tool truck since I was like 17 or 18 getting out of highschool not knowing anything at all. The thing with my business in the town its in you cant judge a person by their looks because they just might bring you cash for a $14,000 sewing machine! Its crazy seeing the other side of how a business runs thats something very few understand or even know how things work.... Love your videos!

I will no doubt give my guys shit if it’s all hammered up from an impact or blue from a torch but at the end of the day they get a new one. Here’s the deal the more people take advantage of the warranty ie breaking their screwdriver every week, causes the cost of tools to go up. So although I do replace it I try to let them know to use the correct tool the next time. A fair number of people are like “it’s lifetime so what “. Yeah you are right but then don’t complain about the prices as well if that makes any sense.
@mikemiller36686 жыл бұрын
I use correct tools unless some reason can't i.e. Impact On a gun I'm just curious if got to be actually broke or if it was rusted out would suffice I ask cuz I have a older service set I left in she'd with quads not really thinking and are rusted out curious if snap would replace due to cosmetics I know my old dealer would to a extent for me but also took care him bought something almost every week I no long work in shop I'm working on large sheredding units now and don't have dealer anymore so I deal direct

A truck, 100k plus or minus in tools and what ever accounts are on the streets. There is no real set $ amount. Did the last dealer leave 100k on the streets or $50 worth of money the customers owe. Each route is different. Trucks go from 80k to 300k empty. Too many variables
@dtnel6 жыл бұрын
Jeremy I will say he's giving you good info. One thing some guys don't realize is there may be 5 franchisees as there is here locally in a city of 180k and my snap on guy has businesses along his route where other snap on franchisees are servicing accounts next door to them pretty much in all parts of town they go to. They try to keep the routes even. A good example would be is we have one huge car dealer chain with various dealerships. One snap on truck don't get all those either as they spread those shops among the snap on franchisees.. It's only fair as otherwise one guy could get all the good stuff and leave the rest of the town underserved because he wouldn't have to work as hard. We have some trucks that have out of town routes and the guy I buy from lives 20 min east 2 towns over but when he comes to town each day he's the only guy who stays in town 5 days a week. He mentioned in passing to me how he'd had to buy all the accounts on his route and he collects the money for them as well. He did say eventually when I asked him about the credit that snap on has the financing and after he'd built his route up and had his thumb on the pulse of things he eventually went to his own private bank being a private franchisee he can get his business financing anywhere and that's when he went to the bank he deals with locally. I know he mentioned it helped him on interest rates which if you know business or anything about it a business owner is always looking at the bottom line and how they can save money in any way possible. If I'd guess and don't be afraid of the number but my guess would be if you have a semi chassis with the Kenworth truck and all other things including accounts, licenses, franchise fee, etc my guess is $300-500k in money out there. It's a gamble but a gamble that is for certain people as you have to be a people person but also able to keep moving along stop to stop not spending to much time but enough to take care of the customers. One example I can give you is I met my franchisee after he'd delivered a box at his stop one day early afternoon on a short route day. Well it was winter and his air dryer was acting up. Us both having prior experience I grabbed my coveralls from my car and he grabbed tools and after trying to make sure the air dryer wasn't frozen I climbed under his truck and removed the air dryer. This saved him a. Tow bill $300-$500, shop repair bill $100-$300 labor plus parts and he and I went and picked up the air dryer complete assembly as they didn't have any kits and cartridges separately. As a franchisee he lost the whole day pretty much but he also saved a ton of money. I got a little swag, hat, gloves, coat and a he threw in a pair of screwdrivers. I wasn't expecting anything as I'm just the type of person who helps someone if they need it and he and I both knew that if I didn't help him and he had to call a tow truck the costs would've been even more. Luckily he only had to make up that day the other couple days of the week by working extra. He was sure glad I came along that day from what I can tell. It also allowed me to get to know my tool guy better and come to find out we both knew and had worked with same mechanics at freightliner 15 yrs apart from each other so turned out to be a small world.

I'm from the central Kansas area and I've been wanting to be a ''tool dude'' since I was in high school. I've been looking into it more the past month but I don't know where to even start. I'm currently a auto/tire tech at a local service center, and I tried talking to the snap on guy that comes to us and he seemed much to busy to talk about it and I hate to call him because quite honestly I'm not sure if I even qualify. I'm only 19 but very motivated and willing to work for it. My main concern is how much does it cost out of pocket to start? Thousands? Tens of thousands? Does my net worth or credit history come into play? I want to get ahold of someone but I don't want to waste their time or make them think I am because I'm "too young" or don't come close to qualify.

I might buy more snap on tools if we had a good dealer here where I live. I have actually pulled up next to a truck and waved 10 grand in cash at them to buy tools and because I didn't have a shop they refused to sell to me. This is not just one dealer it was everyone here where I live. We have five dealers here in this town. So guess where I spent my money?
@Haasltools6 жыл бұрын
That sucks!!!!
@dtnel6 жыл бұрын
Isaac where.do you live? No I'm not a dealer either but there's ways around that. Any customer that walks thru that door on the truck is a customer and if some dealers realized that they'd serve themselves better especially when you have the cash customers who don't carry a truck account or ones who have the credit. I have snap on credit and a truck account and have a business license and can do mobile work only but can't do it out of my house. I can't list my house as a place of business because of 2 reasons zoning laws and having a VA Loan which don't allow you by law to use your house as a place of business. This has made my way of helping others unique as I can't and don't "work" from home. I'D ask those dealers why they can't serve you, why you're different when you're buying tools as the rest are. To buy the bigger equipment such as scan tools you have to be a business as snap on and I have dealt with this and they do verify business licenses and keep those on file for smaller guys.

You have to quit giving Tracker that hamburger at the end of the day and you'd get one sooner. Another thing you should do a part 2 series followup for this video and let the guys who want to do this that have wives know that it can be trying on a marriage as my local franchisee has hired 2 guys and they eventually leave because they say they put to much time in but like you said you get out of it what you put in and even if you're an employee one's I've know who run the truck for a boss are on salary plus commission which makes you hustle hard. My guess of him not having a guy on the truck is there's a downside where he don't get to run his pickup and trailer selling tool boxes, riding on the tech truck separate when it's around and other things that he can normally do when he had someone on the truck. This is strictly a 3rd party observation. He definitely hustles all the time while raising kids and having a wife who works full time as well.

In any business the numbers will seem crazy compared to personal bills. The payment numbers they talk about you won’t really even notice, it’s your weekly tool bill that will send crazy. Today mine was 9066 that I had to pay for the week. So the 400-500 weekly payments for the truck and inventory loan really are Small potatoes. lol. But in reality I know exactly why you ask, I was there once too going holy cow!!!

@@Haasltools thanks for the reply! I’m so glad you mentioned this. It’s comforting and encouraging to know this information. That 9066 amount you mentioned… is that what you’re spending to replenish your inventory for your sales today or is that what you collected today as in what techs owe you?
