The genre isn't "techno." Seems to be closer to a sub-genre of techno called "House," which is what DJs typically play in clubs or house parties (hence the name). About the same genre is "Rhythm is a Dancer" by Snap!.

As a DJ who was doing clubs in the 90's, this was just one of those fun little mainstream crossover tracks for a minute. I think the vibe Lex was going for was more old school club culture where you'd dress up & go out dancing. Before VIP took over the world, you just had to look like you belonged at a club to get in. That's where the cool kids went, no matter how much or little cash you had. Everyone was equal. Those were fun days

Y’all should be the first music reaction channel to really give EDM a chance, theres so much good music in this essentially, group, of genres but they all get dismissed and written off as dubstep, dupstep is basically the heavy metal/screamo of this realm of music. Dubstep is loud, aggressive, and headache inducing. EDM(electronic dance music) can touch on that but a lot of it is more calm and melodic, which is what id recommend you check out. Maybe start with one of these: Strobe - Deadmau5(long with no vocals but its one of if not the most iconic edm song) Steal Your Heart - BRKLYN(Culture Code Remix) Worlds Apart - Seven Lions Sideways - Illenium Drive - Glades(Mt. Eden Remix) Gold - Koven Flatline - Blanke and if you don’t like it you probably wont like much of what id recommend but if you do i can make a condensed list that would still be long, its decent sized rabbit hole to delve into.

@@Vrailly im not saying all dubstep is too hordcore for the average person to enjoy, just saying most of it is, there are definitely some dubstep songs i like, if done right i can even enjoy a dubstep song over a melodic edm song, some of my early favorites were dubstep remixes. Will check those out though.
@Vrailly
@Vrailly 2 жыл бұрын
@@judaychop I'm honestly not having a go at you, just that a lot of peoples' perspective of Dubstep has been tainted by the "skrillex era" of Dubstep, early Dubstep was some of the most innovative and original sounding electronic music going at the time. Peace.
@jakew7982
@jakew7982 2 жыл бұрын
Please research what dubstep is before you make such comments on a public forum. I bet you have only listened to post-2010 ‘dubstep’ made in America. Many genres that have since been defined, were labelled dubstep back in the day. All you need to do is listen to some dubstep from 2006-2009 to understand this. Burial is a good jump off point, and then anything by Skream.

technically speaking I believe this is what's called "Eurodance" or "electronica." Could almost call it "synth" as well, all of which are somewhat "adjacent" to techno but are not actually techno. I think. Music genre definition is not an exact science and is subject to personal bias. Techno I'd say is more like Dat Punk, and has subgenres like Dubstep (e.g. Skrillex). I guess maybe Eurodance, electronica, snythn, et al could be considered sub-genres of techno, kinda like how alternative, metal, screamo, grunge, etc. are sub-genres of rock.

You shoulda reacted to the music video to see his dancing, it's kinda repetitive to just be looking at a lyric screen

Essentially, disco music never died. It just kept evolving, through the 80s, 90s, into the 2020s.

I'm sorry, all I see is Chris Kattan, Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell bobbing their heads back and forth in the club and in the car. :)

It frightens me how many people on here are mentioning Night at the Roxbury as making this song famous, and seemingly forgetting that it was a long running snl skit long before that movie was made. Perhaps it's just because the name of the movie is easier to reference.

This song is a guilty pleasure of mine. I never feel guilty about Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove however. Dead Can Dance is an 80's band with almost no techno sound. Shan't stop until you give them a chance 😁

Dead Can Dance, YES!! They're not constrained by labels. Genre-crossing World Music maybe. A pretty unique band. Still going strong too!
