The key animation was by Spencer Wan. His animation style is kinda easy to spot. Much more weightier movement and a lot of smears. For those who don't know who he is, he was the animation director and key-animator for Castlevania and several other anime. Look him up.

i feel this game shows how important positive reinforcement is. i've bounced off a number of rogue-likes, but never did for hades because every time i feel down, i know nyx, achilles and the rest have my back and are always there to give me a good word.

I think the fact that each attempt at escape is a real attempt that happened, and is acknowledged by the other characters is important.

@@Vae17111 Yeah, rogue-likes don't usually keep my attention for long, but Hades made every escape attempt (no matter how poorly it went) feel like meaningful progress in some way. Whether it was in collecting a few resources for upgrades, or simply looking forward to being able to chat with all the characters and see how their stories are going. I didn't mind dying, because there was almost always something new to see as a result.

I was not expecting much going into this game. Got really invested into the story considering it's mostly text and with someone reading it. Thought I would just be skipping most of the dialogue but I went out of my way to talk to as many of the characters as I could. I love this game.

This game is absolutely fantastic and I can't wait to finally see what lies beyond the final dungeon. Also, to any players that have one, try playing this game with an arcade stick. I tried it out while doing some runs with the spear and it's a really fun way to play if you're doing melee runs. Reminds me of all the beat-em-ups I played in arcades years ago.

Most commenters are curious about the v1.0, oblivous of the fact that they can play the game right now and get like 90% of the content. The most important thing missing is probably the ending but I am pretty sure that they need to play at least 20-30 hours to reach the final boss.

This game is proof that tight controls and a polished game experience mean everything. I don't normally play this style of game as I usually find it dated for my tastes, but the style and package of this game is so well done that I have sunk countless hours into it. The art direction is very intentional and used to maximum effect. There is some big brains behind this game and they know what they are doing. I hope I one day see what these guys do with a AAA+++ budget.

My favorite rogue like ever. The gameplay loop is so satisfying. There's always a sense of progression. The weapons feel unique and powerful. In my 25 hours of playing, no run has been the same and every 3-4 runs I get a combination of boons that makes me go 'Holy shit, this is awesome'. I love this game!
