Good morning Tom, Nancy & I just saw the video that you released about our Matchbox Motors collection of cars. OMG!!!!! What a fantastic job you did on featuring this collection. We are so grateful and so proud of the way that you portrayed both of us and the collection. You are amazing at this! We have had a significant number of features done on our car collection but this is by far the best video ever to cover our cars and our passion. Thank you so much! You really captured, not only the diversity of the collection, but the passion and obsession that is necessary in order to accumulate and share these incredible cars. Thank you also for including Nancy in the video as she is a huge part of what we have created here. We really feared that your viewers may not be so interested in these unusual cars because they are not conventional or familiar to many, and because they are running and driving, even though they came to us as true Barn Finds. However, the comments would seem to suggest that they really enjoyed the video and that they appreciate what we have accomplished with this collection. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for creating this wonderful video of our Matchbox Motors collection of cars. Let’s do the motorcycles next!!!!!

Charles , Good evening from Japan.Wanted to say ,what a fantastic collection of amazing cars. I grew up working on cars and racing on the weekends. Started with 1970 ford maverick, followed by 1971 Oldsmobile cutlass. Graduated High School in 1999 and joined the Navy. Recently retired from active duty and now I’m looking forward to building a small shop and fixing old cars up. Best of luck to You ,Nancy and your family. Thanks for Sharing. V/r James Durrance

Why not an additional 3 episodes for this incomparable collection? I would be riveted to each and every moment for as long as you want to string us along! I vote we return to this mass to get more incredible insight from Charles. That breakdown of the Mercer and the quirky maintenance on the starter is pure gold! Get us back there Tom, or give us the address, so we can descend on this collection and not leave until our needs are satiated. This was absolutely gripping!

I was privileged to meet Charles over 25 years ago when my wife and I decided to follow a series of little car-shaped signs which led us to our first Gould's Microcar Weekend event, then in Brookline MA. We both fell in love with Charles and Nancy and their girls (who were in elementary school then) and all the funny little cars. Charles is one of those people who gives you his full attention when talking with you, and gives generously of his voluminous knowledge. The annual gatherings were real lovefests for microcars and just about any unusual vehicle. The governing principle was "these cars are meant to be used: let's drive them." No trailer queens here (although some arrived that way, like the beautiful one-owner Messerschmitt from Canada, or the derelict Trabant towed by a Ford Fiesta from Maryland and then assiduously wrenched all weekend). Every event included a public car show at the Lars Anderson Museum in Brookline, where rides were given around the grounds to long lines of waiting kids and parents, and a mass drive up Mt Wachusett (about 100 miles round trip and 2500 feet up). SO MUCH FUN!!😁

This gentleman/family and their collection is a *world* different from a guy who just hoards cars and lets them all rot whilst never letting any go. These cars get attention, get worked on and are shared with the public - it's a *breathing* collection. "Unloved"? They might have been back in their day, but I'd daresay that's not the case now. Great episode! - Ed on the Ridge

The British Invacar were a life saver for many WW2 vets who had lost limbs as well as disabled civilians. They were commonplace on the UK roads in the 70's when I was a kid.
@charlesgould97012 ай бұрын
They are a really unusual vehicle, with a proprietary two cylinder, horizontally opposed, air cooled 600cc engine sourced from Steyr Puch, which was overpowered for this car with such a high center of gravity. They often overturned on turns causing more injuries to the driver. The owner of this one loved her AC Invacar so much that she had it certified by DOT for import into the states, which saved it from the crusher as most were destroyed in the UK.

@@charlesgould9701 My recollection is that they were government owned and leased to the end users where they could use part of their pension or disability allowance to pay for it. We still have a similar motability scheme today, but these are "normal" cars that have been adapted. Knowing the British government, the contract for the engines would have gone out to the cheapest tender! They still pop up every now and again at classic car shows here in the UK Great collection BTW👍

OMG!!!! A Gogomobil? I'm 43, and my Dad lived from 1930 to 2014, and as a kid, told me about his first brand new car; all I can remember is "Isard" and "Gogomobil"... He told me it was a cheap, slow and scary car with a motorcycle engine, and necessited a couple of miles of clear road to pass a semi-truck! He then sold it to his brother-in-law that made a trailer out of it, and then bought a brand new gold with black roof, 1968 Dodge Charger with a 318, that was his favorite car of all time; he couldn't stop telling me about it!!!
