Not gonna lie, maybe one of the greatest pieces of content ever created. Maybe because i have always driven Ford trucks. Maybe it's because I am 46 and my mind still wanders back to those better times. Maybe it's because I have been enamored with the first Generation Lightning ever since I first saw that red one at Jannell Ford in Hanover in '95 (we all used to stop by and look at it until the sales guys told us to leave). I don't know and I don't care. Job WELL done!!!

Thanks Seth! I have also always loved the 9th Gen F-150s, since before I could remember. This was my first time seeing a first gen Lightning up close, and they look insanely cool in person. When it showed up on the trailer we were all floored by how flashy and sorted it was. This one, of course, is extra special.

I had a ‘95 xl. i6, 2xd, 5m. I bought it with 200k on it, with a stripped out oil plug that had been jb welded in. I put another 100k dailying it 50m a day over a steep 1,500’ mountain range nick named blood alley. I could outpace most sports cars just because I knew every bump and elevation change like the back of my hand. I changed the oil filter 2x until It got to the point that I just wanted to kill it so I could have an excuse to buy a new truck. I gave up when the odometer hit 300k and gave it to my uncle. He’s still driving it around town and on his ranch. That gen F150 was so dependable, light, torquey and communicative at its limit. Definitely the best vehicle I’ve ever owned hands down.

Great video. I also have a 1992 F150 Flareside. Except mine is white with the 4.9 liter 6 cylinder and 5 speed manual. Mine also has about half the mileage that yours does and I only have the single tank. With the single tank the range isn't great; I have to fill up by 200 miles or so. You say you have low oil pressure. That could be because of the gauge; they are notoriously inaccurate.
@RyanSymancek3 жыл бұрын
Yeah after all the abuse we put it through, I have a feeling that the gauge is somewhat inaccurate. We never did put a proper tester on it to see what it was reading. But also, pressure still is probably terrible, considering all the leaking and burning of oil. I'm sure bearing tolerances are crap too! It'd be good for a rebuild or someone who actually wants to the the time to make it nice. Frame and body are actually really solid for it being a New England truck! The I6 5spd sounds perfect though! What great trucks!

What's interesting is that Hagerty shows all these cool, older, modded cars and yet they won't cover them. I got a quote for my '91 Syclone and they asked me to remove the carbon dioxide bottle out of the bed that I used to spray on the intercooler even though it wasn't nitrous and didn't spray in the motor. I removed it, took pictures, and sent them in. I never heard back from them and I called twice to follow up. They just decided not to cover me and didn't even give me the courtesy of saying no to me. So, I called Grundy and they took me right away and for half the price.

You started talking about the three engines offered by ford for the half ton trucks. You mentioned the first two but never said anything about the 5.8 after you mentioned the 5.0 and the inline six. Also, a stock ford lightning in 1994 only had 240 hp, not 290 hp. You have great editing skills and a good presence on film. If you ever need anyone to review your videos for correct horsepower stats please just private message me, because those are very important to us gearheads.
