I'm a GM guy, and I always loved how these 454ss trucks look. But any way you look at it, Chevy halfassed this truck. That 454 was literally plucked out of the 3500 line. It is a low compression, low rpm, small cam engine that was meant to produce ok horsepower and torque, and to be worked hard towing things. None of that makes for a good performance oriented drivetrain. What's worse, the "build" they did for this show, did NOTHING to address the built in shortcomings.

the 454 still needs more compression. 8.8:1 is still just hardly anything. reuse the heads, intake, cam, block, rods, crank, everything just put a set of pistons in it to get that compression up would make a big difference. How technology in the automotive industry has changed since 2008. These trucks were barely cracking 300hp to the wheels with all the mods they did. The brake test made me laugh though, lets just flat spot the tires while we're at it lol

I didn't watch all of the episodes. Are they still running the original Ford iron heads which were de-facto GT40 irons?

Ford always wins! Gotta love those Ford's. But the Chevy handled much better! With a truck I'm not looking to handle. I want get up and go!

Greg Williams It's so funny when I see these comments. You obviously don't get to the tracks very often. Either drag tracks or track days at any race track in the country. Chevy's make up the vast majority of cars on the track. Tons of Fords are powered by Chevy engines and there is a reason the LS and SBC motors are in everything. Besides, trucks aren't for straight line racing or handling.
@TheBb6prelude5 жыл бұрын
Shane P that’s because they’re cheaper to build and have more tech than a Windsor. I’d still put a allmotor Windsor against a LS or boost vs boost.
@ardyshane235 жыл бұрын
preludeF20Bking Well I will admit I am a best bang for the buck kinda guy, but I also want reliability. My chevy small block in my truck with 408000 miles, original motor, is another reason I would call myself a chevy guy. But I think with enough money you could make any motor best another motor.
@khoellebasnight44285 жыл бұрын
@@TheBb6prelude I don't know why you would put a Windsor against an LS. Windsor will split right in half above 650whp. A junkyard LS would make 650 with ebay parts and an autozone tune.

Brian Harper yeah when the used normal F150 springs to lower it they should have seen it coming
@scottgriggs25964 жыл бұрын
You’re right. The stock Lightning was a very well engineered piece. They screwed it up with all of their chassis mods. Those super long traction bars in the rear had the effect of adding a ton of rear roll stiffness. The stock F150 coil springs in the front were undoubtedly a lower rate than the stock Lightning springs. That change, and the goofy modified mounting of the front stabilizer bar reduced the front roll stiffness. The combination of the stiffer rear and softer front explains why the truck wanted to swap ends on their slalom course. They messed up the balance of the chassis in a big way.

Plot twist: the Chevy didn't break down halfway through filming because it was actually a Ford with a front end conversion.
