Oikawa is much more of a team player than Kageyama in this game, tbh. The anime just shows so much of the thinking from Oikawa's end but he is utilising his teammates well better than Kageyama, that's why it seems like Oikawa's doing everything on his own for his own benefit but he didn't. Kageyama on the other hand is so distracted by his dream of winning over Oikawa that he forgot his team members' specific expertise (e.g., Asahe likes his higher tosses away from the net, Tsuki needs normal quicks and plays, etc.)
@jacklee39983 жыл бұрын
There's a difference between wanting to do something and actually doing it. Kageyama may want to change, but such change takes a while to develop. And when people are put into a corner of desperation, they fall into their previous habits, which is what Oikawa was taking advantage of.
@Jjop0173 жыл бұрын
I actually appreciated the realism by seeing Kageyama backslide when backed into a corner. It makes sense. People are likely to backslide into old habits when they feel pressured.

Notice how Kageyama started saying 'I' instead of 'we' when talking about winning at the end. He reverted back into the King mentality that's why he panicked because his fear to losing started get him in the head. I mean, habits are hard to overcome so I kinda saw this coming.

Oikawa is one of the series best characters and rivals for Kageyama. He isn't conceited or selfish at all. He is very much a team player. Oikawa is of the many fan favorites for a reason. He might be arrogant and petty, especially when it comes to Tobio, but he's the most selfless and involved player. That's what makes him such a good character. I think there’s a disconnect where the normies forget that Oikawa touching the ball the most in play is also a very common thing because he is the setter. He IS the best player on their team and the episode focuses on when he tries some tricky stuff to get points in, but the difference between him and Kageyama at this point is when Kageyama gets stressed out he tries to do things more aggressively without taking his teammates into consideration AT ALL. It’s been his biggest weakness this whole time, you just don’t think about it because the show focuses on Karasuno and their growth, so you forget it’s there until its time to address it. Oikawa knows his team front to back, and even when he gets stressed in this match, his team is readily able to straighten him out.
@Mary-ld7ct3 жыл бұрын
Oikawa is cocky, sure but it's not baseless, he actually has the skills to back it up. Also, when he's on the court, he's the most selfless person as in he does his absolute best, not only to do well himself but to get EVERYONE on his team to do their very best too.

Oikawa Toru is Not a Genius. One of the best titles in the series. Initially we all thought Oikawa is some cocky, genius setter/server but it turns out hes not. At the very least, when compared to Kageyama, Oikawa was not a genius at all. He was skilled but he also worked hard to improve his abilities. Not to mention he's a model team captain, serious but also light hearted at the right moments. He knows exactly how to motivate his team and what sets will bring out the best in his spikers. Definitely imo the most interesting character of the show

To copy a patreon comment in defense of The Great King: Oof. Saying that Oikawa's strategy or 'scheming' didn't work is incorrect. Yes, Tanaka overcame the building pressure Oikawa's serves were putting on him, but that's a credit to Tanaka's amazing resilience, not a criticism of Oikawa's tactics. Had it been just about anyone other than our favorite bald knucklehead, it would have worked. Just look at Dateko's Iron Wall destroying Asahi's confidence before the season as a prime example that this sort of tactic does not happen in a vacuum. Not to mention, he still got three or four points off of Tanaka, which is clearly a sign of success. Oikawa had a sound strategy and executed as best as he could. Likewise with his serves forcing the opposition to retaliate the way he wants them to, bottlenecking them, taking their setter away. As does getting inside of Kageyama's head. As does hyping his own team up with trash talk. All of this, ALL of it, is to serve HIS TEAM. Oikawa is a madman thinker and beyond that, he's a team player, and no one in this whole match on either side is doing quite as much for their team. It's made apparent when he all but leads the team huddles as opposed to the coach, because the Aoba Johsai coach acknowledges that Oikawa (usually, if not always) has the right things to say (as a smart captain should). Oikawa's inferiority complex is incredibly reminiscent of Bakugo in that they are both so incredibly talented and amazing, but deep down they don't really see that in themselves. They fear they aren't as good as others think they are or as their opposition is. Thus they froth at the mouth and work until they bleed to BE the best that they can be.
@JacopoBasanisi3 жыл бұрын
I might add: everything that gives you 1 point is a good strategy. Even one ace would've been good thinking, every other result is a plus. This sport is made of 10-20 little situations every set, the tide comes and goes. Any "10 points tactics" is unrealistic or based on a clear superiority (so one idea is as good as any other at that point)
@rohananil12663 жыл бұрын
Oikawa is literally the opposite of Kageyama of the first season. A true teammate and selfless. Kageyama had a pseudo-team spirit which had to be consciously kept up by him and it came apart when he was backed into a corner and he started reverting back. Atleast for now. Also Kageyama makes the best set apparent to him while Oikawa does that but he takes his spiker's feelings into consideration. He does what is best for his team while Kageyama does what's best for the win.

Also Marketa, ik you love and have bias for Tanaka but feeling alone aint enough to win the match. Thats for the simple reason that: Oikawa embodies how a profesional should act on the court, he is consistant, and is overall a very good player, but he is also good at making the other team frustrated, which is an underrated but very usefull skill to have in any sport, in other words "cockiness" and anyone that plays sports will know that those people are GEMS to play with, but a living nightmare to play against.... that's the reason why i love oikawa. so hardworking and very team player. huhu. i understand that u guys misunderstand him but u'll know why he's the best setter (well, actually it was shown in the episode) and how his service aces are really big deal to a team. Service was actually really effective in scoring that's why in Karasuno, Yamaguchi wants to practice his jump floater serve because it was effective in scoring against their opponents. All his teammates can't do better if he's not the setter. well, it was actually showed on the first match of karasuno and aoba johsai how weak aoba without oikawa. and that's the reason why 'he should come to shiratorizawa' HAHAHAHAHAHA btw, setter is the one who control and always touches the ball that's why he always has it, and also a very effective server. Note: It's okay, that's a natural reaction for the Grand King. U'll gonna love him especially he is our first love's bestie (can't tell who will be his bestie lol)

I think all their points about Oikawa are valid. I feel like you're not meant to like him in the beginning. He's a cool character but the comments explaining and justifying why he's a good character are just weird. It's better to let them naturally become accustomed to his character.

They dont . They even called him a bully and they dont want to hear why oikawa is the way he is

Where did they get that he’s not a team player for real. He’s just better than the others, he’s not hogging the ball or anything.

he keeps serving cause if you get a service ace you get to serve again

11:51 A lot of people seem to like Oikawa but I'm more neutral towards him maybe a slight dislike and think a lot of the reason Kageyama became a "tyrant king" was due to looking up to Oikawa. If Kageyama had Sugawara as his upperclassman back in junior high I think Kageyama would've already eclipsed all other setters in his prefecture.

Y'all are nuts. They are allowed to have their own opinion on characters. Y'all also have the difficulty of removing good person from an interesting character or good player. Fact is that Oikawa, while a good player and has empathetic motivations, has incredibly toxic relationship with Kageyama through not real fault of Kageyama. Poor kid looked up to Oikawa, and instead got pure venom in return. In his entire life, Oikawa never apologized and kept a petty grudge. Could you imagine how much better adjusted Kageyama would have been if Oikawa had taken him under his wing?

Can you edit it so that the background of the Haikyuu is shown like before episode 19? And I don't think it's good to be uploaded to only one person in an important scene.

Attempt #693: of trying to get The Normies to check out Sym-Bionic Titan or Primal. Both made by Genndy Tartakovsky, the guy who made Samurai Jack.
