This would be a wonderful candidate for an American anthem, even as a Canadian it makes your blood run cold ;)

Too bad the Americans composed it first. How about a Confederate song for you like the Bonnie blue flag

I'd prefer if it was the "If we don't burn you, I'll be damned" for the confederates here

Two things: 1. The Star-Spangled Banner became the national anthem in 1931 2. A year is not considered a day

At the risk of being pilloried, l must say l agree. Common sense should suggest that the first qualification for a National Anthem should be that it can be remembered and sung by ordinary citizens with no particular singing skills. The Star Spangled Banner doesn't meet that simple criteria. The meIody was originally was 18th century creation for a gentleman's club, 'an Anacreon to Heaven', llpopular with drunks who *thought* they sounded great. Secondly, if you read the lyrics in their entirety, some verses are vaguely insulting to our British cousins, once our enemy, but for over 200 years, our best friends, and most admirable allies. I would greatly prefer "America the Beautiful" or "My Country, 'tis of Thee" as our National Anthem. 😊🇺🇲☮
