Roof salesman door knocking to inspect this roof for hail damage. Homeowners called Grand Roofing to inspect the roof for a second opinion. What are your thoughts, enough hail damage to file a claim like this other gentleman was pushing or not near enough?
The storm was on 3/14/24

Great video for homeowners! The door knocking sales reps cause so much unnecessary drama. They consider their behavior harmless. You can call anything hail without consequences if you're wrong. If you chalk up 50 roofs like that and you get lucky on 3, you win right? Maybe you'll get a new uneducated adjuster who will just believe you. Maybe you'll get a tired adjuster who just doesn't want a fight. Maybe you get an adjuster who needs his customer service score to improve? As crazy as it sounds, roofs like this are incorrectly being bought all the time. So the door knocker's con-artistry is a victimless crime, right? WRONG. Out of those 50 roofs, the owners of the 47 that didn't get bought are left thinking their roof is trashed by hail and their insurance company wrongly denied their claim. Now there are even more homeowners who hate insurance for no reason. Also, imagine the let down. Some sales rep fills your head with grand promises of a brand new roof this spring, then the carrier denies, and now you have to go back to the realization that you'll still have to replace your own roof in a few years out of pocket. It's an awful game to play with people driven by greed. Also, these door knockers cause so much damage themselves that they'll never be held responsible for. I'll get out there for the insurance inspection after a troupe of 3 or 4 door knockers have been up there over the past week. I'll find everything except hail. There's crushed/fractured ridge caps from someone walking on them, dents in gutters from ladders, patterns of faked hail on shingles so they could create their photo reports for the homeowner, boot marks on shingle edges, more wear and tear from foot traffic in the valleys... AND. No one EVER shows the homeowner the collateral evidence. All the homeowner sees is the photo report from Storm Chaser Pros with 6 photos of "hail" on field shingles. But the spatter on the nearby transformer box is pea sized or smaller, the N, S, E, and W fascia is all clean, downspout extensions are clean, window screen, AC, roadside mailbox, gutter toppers, flue caps, are all pristine. And unless you're actually an adjuster or an honest exterior restoration contractor you'd never believe how parasitic these storm chaser con artists have become lately. And what a surprise, the insurance industry is now pushing back with policy changes and premium hikes. Unfortunately it's the homeowner that is becoming ever more increasingly pinched in the middle.

It's amazing how many homeowners "believe" that hail didn't damage any soft metals or personal property but somehow damaged asphalt shingles 😂. Do they really believe that? The storm chasers you allowed to run around your roof displaced more granules than the pea size hail that hit the roof. Check your property from the ground level! No collateral damage?... it's a safe bet your roof is fine.

I wish more people knew how bad things are in places like Florida. The general consensus is that the hurricanes, floods, etc are causing their rates to sky rocket. In reality the problem is that the state has a MASSIVE fraud problem that runs all the way through the court system. To put it in perspective, I have a buddy who works at state farm helping out with litigation related claims. Out of all the policies SF insures, 7% are in the state of FL. Out of all claims in the country that are in some sort of litigation 75% are also in the state of FL. I just to be an adjuster, was deposed on several claims there. I'd walk into a house with 2 small water stains on the ceiling, a tarp covering the entire roof with a 20k invoice, and a public adjuster and attorney listed on the claim who never show up or send their kid's girlfriend thats in high school (true story). Roof would be 2-5 years old, no storm damage, crappy flashing work on the end walls, or no step flashing whatsoever. I wouldn't find enough damage to cover the deductible and then 2 months later - 250k lawsuit, SF settles at 50-100k which covers the PA and attorney costs and lets the homeowner with enough money to remodel their kitchen and they NEVER REPLACE THE ROOF OR FIX THE ISSUE. 2 years later, new hurricane, new claim, same process. Imagine this happening every 2-3 years with thousands of claims across every insurance company. THIS is why insurers are leaving or raising rates, its constant litigation, constant loss, and companies being forced to shell out massive litigation costs on claims that are fundamentally fraudulent and full of BS. Hurriance Ian showed just how bad this problem had become. These same PAs and attorney companies have sucessfully marketed themselves as the heros and good guys fighting the big bad insurance companies on your behave. I dont even want to go into how bad assignment of benefits were and how they almost bankrupt half the local insurance companies after hurricane Ian in fort myers. Dont get me wrong, I left that side of the industry for a reason, things were changing and I saw the writing on the wall. Im not defending the big companies like state farm because in the end, they are going to be fine. It's the homeowners that are suffering, it's the homeowners that never file claims because they know they dont have damage or actually take care of their home because are good honest people. They are being driven out of areas due to the rates increasing. Meanwhile the attorneys and public adjusters are running around on their yachts not giving a care in the world to what they are doing. They keep the cycle going. Its sickening, the more I learn about the problem the more it reminds of the days when the mob controlled new york or las vegas. Make no mistake about it, its organized crime.

I couldn't have said this better if I wanted to You're also wasting our time and taking us from those that actually need us. Recently come from an actual catastrophe where 100ft trees fell on houses and demolished them all over the place for 3 days straight. Had to reduce the staff there so much the remaining are being drowned and nearing mental breakdown and homeowners are affected. Just so the rest of us could come to the Midwest where door knockers are back up and running after winter. You get into this field thinking you'll help during hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, fires etc. End up spending your days on undamaged roofs being treated like garbage because "my contractor says". You can't say "ma'am your SALEEMAN is a 18 year old kid plucked from McDonalds still trying to grow a beard" though.

@GoldenMarleyMoo I never refer to them as contractors. I always call them what they are, SALESMEN, especially when talking with the insured. Unless of course it's one of the locals who I know and trust...and those guys are true craftsmen at their trade so they deserve a lot of respect.

Since, I've gotten into the Ladder Assist / Inspection only and I love it. I've gained a lot more knowledge, Haag too. Your channel is a wealth of knowledge for people who are starting in the business and want to do it right! Thank you, you've been a great part of my development!

Hey Brian. I went to the dermatologist today--results of my ill-spent youth... Wear sun protection out there! UV rays are working on your skin like they do to the roofs.

I will say, I’ve been an installer for 4 years. I took a slide off the roof so I decided to get into sales, I’m now seeing the industry from a different perspective and I hate storm chasers!! People that try to get roofs like this approved by insurance, I’d say is why insurance policies are changing.

Was told by State Farm that they require 6 spots minimum in a 10 square foot area to qualify for hail damage. Note. If any of your neighbors get an inspection for hail damage, and they get it classified as hail damage, and/or they get a new roof as a result, get your roof inspected promptly. This helps you in leverage with your insurance company as they can't claim you are an isolated case.

Pretty honest review. But roofers are not rocket surgeons. And they're half of the equation. When they tell you that you have hail damage always ask them to show you why and then think about their *opinion* and motivation. Well, you say to yourself, 'why would the insurance company approve the total roof replacement if it wasn't truly needed'? (Just my theory.) Because insurance companies need to justify their rate increases with the state. Oh, not just YOUR premium. ALL of our premiums. Get it? Insurance companies spend a few hundred million dollars in roof repairs, jack premiums billions. Let's not become Florida.
