Why is it that every time I look for hairstyles for thin hair I find people claiming that they have thin hair when really they don't. When they part their hair they don't look like they have a bald spot, but when I do, no matter where the part is on my head it looks like it's going bald, and it would look worse if my hair was a dark color and not naturally dishwater blonde. Here's my advise to those people that have the same kind of thin problem as me, keep your hair short. The longer your hair is the heavier the hairs get and that weights the hair into staying closer to your scalp, but if the hairs are short that makes it easier to finagal it into looking fuller. Also, if possible, having hair that's close in color to your skin tone helps because when you part your hair it doesn't contrast as much with the skin beneath.

popcorngoddess89 Those are great tips! I wish I would've seen them years ago! I just figured this out about 2 years ago. Got my hair cut to my shoulders after have long hair my whole life. Dyed it blonde so my scalp didn't look so obvious against the contrast of my darker hair. I wish all women who were self conscious could see this. Those 2 things make such a huge difference!
@fbiagentfrank6 жыл бұрын
Charlie b That's a great tip as well! I've been trying to find a color that doesn't look obvious but out of my million shadow palettes and bronzers nothing is working. I may invest in the toppix fibers because I think that's the same basic concept but the fibers may grip a bit better and come in traditional hair color shades. I'd just rather not pay the money though lol! I may dig through my makeup drawer again today.

Good advice, except I don't suit short hair :( I too have dishwater blonde thin fine hair but I keep it shoulder length and curl it overnight in rags or plaits so it has volume at the roots especially the next day.
@jessierasberry30827 жыл бұрын
For everyone who doesn't know the difference and the appropriate hair terms, lol. Fine hair= small strands, diameter of hair strand is small. Thin hair= low hair density, not much hair on the head, sometimes there's a wider part and visible scalp. Coarse hair= strand diameter is large. Thick hair= high hair density, lots of hair on the head, scalp is usually not super visible at the part or sides.

Here are some more tricks to add: If you want a "fullness look" on the side you usually part it on is before bed part on the other side (as you demonstrated) and"flip" your hair to the other side and SLEEP on it! Also a little cornstarch or baking soda rubbed in at the roots will 1, take up oils over night and 2) give you volume. If you have DARK hair or roots mix cocoa in with the cornstarch to darken it a bit, takes the ashiness look away. Again, overnight is best, but you can always do a little bit in the morning before you head out. And as anyone with fine hair knows DO NOT WASH YOUR HAIR EVERYDAY! Dry shampoos cost $$, smell and some have alcohols that DRY your hair! Cornstarch and baking soda cost a lot less. You can put some in a little jar or baggy in your purse, dab your fingertips in, rub into your roots (even head upside down is great for this) really pumps up the volume. Give it a try! I promise you it WORKS! Great for after the gym too!!!!

I do this as I have greasy hair after one day. I don't use baking soda though as it's very alkaline and don't want that on my hair, even dry. I use arrowroot or cornstarch and add a little bit of yellow oxide powder to get a colour match for my blonde hair.

I love the hairband hack. Have immediately ordered one from Etsy. Ponytails make me look like I have no hair….like a skinny rat!! On top of that, all the straightening and highlighting has caused breakage, so my top layer is shorter than the rest, so a ponytail also looks ridiculously untidy. Plaits round the front are the best solution but a bit babyish! Can’t wait to try the hairband hack!

Since you say you have dark hair, I'm guessing you want to go lighter which would involve bleach. It's understandable to be concerned about bleach damage! There's a product on the market called Olaplex that some salons use and it supposedly protects hair from damage that can be caused by bleach. Maybe check that out if you decide to go lighter! www.nylon.com/articles/olaplex-hair-treatment

Finally a fine hair video with someone who actually has fine hair. My tips ..... try not to layer - it makes the ends look thinner. Pull the sides back to hide the thinness. Always work with texture - gel, scrunch, & let air dry. Flat ironing makes it look thinner. Don't use conditioner. You can use a pre-shampoo coconut oil treatment. Once dry take the tiniest amount of serum or oil and barely touch the dry places. Sleep in satin covered sponge curlers on top of your head - only takes a few if your don't have a lot of hair - a wave look thicker than straight. Hope these help.
@84rinne_moo7 жыл бұрын
See even at the beginning your hair has some texture and body already. It doesn't sit against your head like a helmet, like mine. How can I ever get the hair like that? My hair is so fine, like the individual strands are thin. It doesn't like to hold curl from heat, usually only I can do sleeping with it wet. Even a good blowout only really stays for most of the day. Any tips??
@malindabills97716 жыл бұрын
I have fine hair too and literally the ONLY thing that has helped me get it thicker and longer is to STOP WASHING IT. The "NO POO METHOD" (google it) has made my hair a bit thicker. In fact, when I stopped using shampoo, I noticed hairs sticking up all over my head and when I talked to my beautician, I found out that I had new hair growth all over my head! Goodbye shampoo (or at least I only use it very infrequently) and hello apple cider vinegar. It has been a miracle for my hair.

I have hair even finer than this and it's also extremely oily, and last time I got a haircut the stylist convinced me to try Kevin Murphy plumping wash and rinse - it was shockingly good. It took a few weeks but it definitely gave me "more" hair. It's pretty expensive but because my hair is so fine I only needed a nickel sized amount and it lasted 6 months. If your hair is like mine I definitely recommend.

I had really damaged, thick, bushy, wavy/straight/curly, dry gross hair. It was actually so disgusting i looked like hagrid on a bad hair day (but i looked like that everyday). So i went to get a brazillian blowout. A brazillian blowout is a keratin permanent straightening treatment, that straightens your hair for about 3-4 months. Little did i know, i would leave looking like steve aoki. I actually have thin hair! Its just because it was so gross before i didn’t know my hair was thin- because before i had so much volume. Anywho, now i look like steve aoki and my hair flat and straight and thin af! My hair can never look good, can it? :( Now that my hair is thin it always looks greasy no matter if i just washed it or not. My crush asked me when i came to school, “did you just go swimming? Why is your hair so wet?” And i smiled but i was crying inside.

OMG!!!! Who are all of these super unhappy women criticizing the definition of fine hair. Her hair is INDEED fine. Bitter critical women make all women look bad. Please stop!

My hair gets oily super fast so I have to wash it more often than I prefer....but it also breaks and frizzes due to hair washing even though I don't rub with the towel, air dry, and put in leave in conditioner at the ends. =__= I only wish I could have that volume
@angy29908 жыл бұрын
Mine does this too. I use dry shampoo on my roots in between washes to keep the oil at bay without having to over wash my hair.

Angy Barrows I tried it before but dry shampoo usually weights down my hair and ends up making it look greasy towards the end of the day.

It is so reassuring to see styles that have potential. Will try them out. Love the last look! I will also suggest a bun with a doughnut in it. They have them in multiple colors in stores. Looks great and is quick.

I love the third hairstyle! It's super cute and will work really well with my thin hair! I also really love your hair color and was curious how you got it like that. I really want something similar but don't know what to tell my hair dresser. lol

I'm glad I found your video, I'm gonna definitely try these hairstyles. My hair is so thin and I don't have a lot of options, I hope I can make it look as good as yours.

You can bobby pin your hair? 😲 For me it's an equivalent of cutting it off. Most strands I Bobby pinned would fall right off. I don't use any metal in my hair any more.

I agree! Thank yuo Erin for helping those of us with fine/thin hair who still want to look pretty with different hairstyle options. And I love that your ideas really are pretty quick and easy, even for those of us who are beauty-technique challenged. :-)

With the bun you can spray your ponytail with hairspray and tease it before making the bun as it creates a much bigger bun

I can't find anything that works for my hair. It's so fine and thin Bobby pins don't stay in my hair, nor do headbands. I've tried multiple products and hair accessories. Most every product makes my hair have such a large amount of build up it looks greasy. Please help me, lol!
