hairdresser here, oils won’t grow your hair, a good diet, care and a good routine will help you regain your hair again takes roughly 3-4 month to kickstart the growth cycle ❤ You look beautiful

Yes my relaxed hair did a 360 once I started eating, resting, & putting less on my scalp more on my strands also protective styling with my own hair vs covering it has me at arm pit length now. I always plateau at shoulder length

Yes I don’t use oils just castor oil when I was natural and the vegamor drops is a serum but not oily if that makes sense

Scientifically, oils are a sealant and helps to retain length with you apply moisture to the hair. I think it is imperative to give all the information and not omit parts when correcting someones knowledge.

My natural hair was suffering for a long time and I was so tempted to get a relaxed, but I learned about texture release. It has changed my life! My hair looks so straight and silky like I have a relaxer, but my curls will return in 6-8 weeks with consistent washes. It gives me the best of both worlds.

I am also on a healthy relaxed hair journey. Right now, I am 4 months post relaxed, trying to push it until 6 months but I am sure in may I will need some retouches because I want to have a sew in for a few weeks and then braids again because I am going on vacation. I want my front hair also to be at the same length as the rest of my hair. Sincerely, I see the improvement on your hair. Surprisingly products that I expect to work with my hair “black hair care”, black owned, etc. has not worked for me. I’ve lost hair and have not been able to retain length. I’ve purchased full black hair care systems, thinking I shouldn’t mix brands. I would still have detangling struggles and breakage. I opted to religiously go to a salon and that is a journey In itself. I am Currently relaxed and winging it for now, natural hair was thick and coarse. In my opinion some products are not for all hair types, as advertised. Best example, everything weighed my hair down and stiffened my hair during straightening, then I discovered Paul Mitchell humidity defying serum.

I feel the same way about lacewigs / lace front wigs. I know it’s the trend but prefer leave out or bangs. I always see the lace no matter how much it’s melted and I think of lacewigs for my theater career. It’ may be a generational thing but i prefer leave out like a fall or half wig. I understand that with a big chop or with certain shirt style it’s hard to blend leave out. I now have sister locks micros and I m learning new ways to wear and fit wigs!

I feel you Octavia sometimes I feel like we go through the same things at the same time. I also cut my hair off after microlinks (which thinned my hair), then I got a Japanese straightening (I’m NOT big chopping, just left it grow out and get trims). Now, I’ve been doing weave + crochet (no leave out) with wigs (I also HATE wigs) in between (and only finger detangling) and just left my hair alone and it’s growing, not falling out and thickening.

Wow Octavia. I am going through something similar after having my son 6 months ago. My hair is thinning due to post partum and I’m just so confused and unsure how to manage it rn. I got a wig for the first time only to find out that I am NOT a wig girlie. Like I kept shifting it and just felt uncomfortable. I am currently wearing a slick back ponytail until mid May when I get a sew in. I want knotless braids but my edges are thin. This season is so foreign to me. Nevertheless, there could be more worse things. But thank u for sharing and being transparent. I personally appreciate it and we will get through this! 😊

Hair journaling is key, I left wigs during the pandemic and invested in a hairstylist not any hairstylist i did research I test diferrent salons and journaled on my hair and diet. I have grown my hair past shoulder length never has happened. I now maintain my hair at home but those 2 years were worth the investment. I would love to wear a wig but the fact that i dont need to and now have all the tips from my stylist and my journal I know the triggers

I always say black women will eventually see the benefits of being natural. Our hair is happy when it's not super manipulated. Loc it sis

You need to start loving and accepting your hair the way it is, otherwise you’ll always find yourself on hair journeys to “fix” a deep routed issue that is more psychological than physical. Accept that your hair will never be the way you may want or aspires it to be, and it’s okej! It’s not that it’s “hard” to manage, it’s just that you haven’t accepted it for its natural state. So no amount of cutting, relaxing, wearing wigs will fix the psychological “biff” you have with your hair! Your hair is amazing and can do various of things, believe it as well 😌

You'd be breathtaking and elegant with a short kinked fro. I think that's what your hair is trying to tell you.

My hair can say whatever it wants lol but I’m going to do what works for me but hopefully I’ll find someone in my hair to help me take care of my curls when they grow in because I don’t do a great job.
