Surprisingly products that I expect to work with my hair “black hair care”, black owned, etc. has not worked for me. I’ve lost hair and have not been able to retain length. I’ve purchased full black hair care systems, thinking I shouldn’t mix brands. I would still have detangling struggles and breakage. I opted to religiously go to a salon and that is a journey In itself. I am Currently relaxed and winging it for now, natural hair was thick and coarse. In my opinion some products are not for all hair types, as advertised. Best example, everything weighed my hair down and stiffened my hair during straightening, then I discovered Paul Mitchell humidity defying serum.

I feel the same way about lacewigs / lace front wigs. I know it’s the trend but prefer leave out or bangs. I always see the lace no matter how much it’s melted and I think of lacewigs for my theater career. It’ may be a generational thing but i prefer leave out like a fall or half wig. I understand that with a big chop or with certain shirt style it’s hard to blend leave out. I now have sister locks micros and I m learning new ways to wear and fit wigs!

I feel you Octavia sometimes I feel like we go through the same things at the same time. I also cut my hair off after microlinks (which thinned my hair), then I got a Japanese straightening (I’m NOT big chopping, just left it grow out and get trims). Now, I’ve been doing weave + crochet (no leave out) with wigs (I also HATE wigs) in between (and only finger detangling) and just left my hair alone and it’s growing, not falling out and thickening.

You need to start loving and accepting your hair the way it is, otherwise you’ll always find yourself on hair journeys to “fix” a deep routed issue that is more psychological than physical. Accept that your hair will never be the way you may want or aspires it to be, and it’s okej! It’s not that it’s “hard” to manage, it’s just that you haven’t accepted it for its natural state. So no amount of cutting, relaxing, wearing wigs will fix the psychological “biff” you have with your hair! Your hair is amazing and can do various of things, believe it as well 😌
