The dehumidifier will remove the condensation from your windows etc and prevent mould. That's the problem with double glazing there's not much ventilation it definitely works and makes the room feel warmer too! Also put your phone on top of the dehumidifier to dry it out!

Grace you should get a plastic table cloth for your gingerbread creation station so when all the kiddos are done you can just bring the ends together,dump everything in tge trash,wipe down the table cloth and you're good to go for next year. I was in childcare for 15 years and kept one in my class to cover the table when the kids painted.

What your house needs is a ducted air humidifier. These are normally on the wall or on the attic door. Basically they suck air from outside or from the roof area and very gently blows air into the house and essentially pushed all the damp air out of the house. No more condensation no more mould. I have one in my place forgot what it's called now.

🤣 my boiler broke Saturday - and it’s been the coldest few days for a couple of years since .... I am currently wearing thermal vest, long-johns and slippers, thick joggers, microfleece and an Oodie .... on top of and under Sherpa throws with two hot water bottles - I could do with fingerless gloves too (my hands are freezing!) The Oodie was on special offer and has been well worth the purchase! But, PLEASE, nothing else breaks! If your windows have the major black mould problem in your room, try a Karcher Window Vac first thing (works wonders!) But you’re right, the heating really does need to be run for a couple of hours morning and evening to prevent the brickwork (and if you have solid floors, the floor) from getting too cold and creating damp inside (student accommodation taught us that 😆)
@dees3179 Жыл бұрын
Hope you can get your boiler fixed. I can’t really afford to put mine on this year (mortgage shot up and job ending ) so have to rely on opening windows to keep the damp down to a manageable level. It’s not getting above freezing in the day time so this is not fun. I keep one room shut and sit in there and it stays at at least 8 degrees so at least I won’t die! I am wearing about the same as you and eating lots of porridge. Warm thoughts.
@carliem9494 Жыл бұрын
@@dees3179 yep ambient temperature has been around 8° in my rooms too - dropped as low as 7° yesterday. However, at least I’ve got four walls and a roof and can make a hot meal! (I had porridge yesterday too 😆 - porridge or soup always consistent warmers) Hope you find a new job soon Dee

Hi Grace! I never usually comment, but I also have straight hair which can go really frizzy (you talked about that in a few other vlogs), and I found this hair serum by Biosilk, which doesn’t make my hair greasy but smells really nice and tames the frizz, and makes my hair really soft! They sometimes use it at hairdressers too. Just thought I’d recommend 😊
@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 Жыл бұрын
That biosilk serum is amazing. I did used to misuse it though. I bought it for the first time around 2005 and the sales lady told me it was a heat protectant for when I used hot tools. So for at least 5 years I applied it on dry hair before straightening my hair with a flat iron. My second bottle accidentally got knocked over and most of it poured onto my laminate floor and I only noticed way too late. So the bottle was soon empty and I never bought a new one because it was so pricey. This year I started to use my flat iron again after years of not using high heat on my hair, so I went looking for a new heat protectant and told the shop keeper of a local hair supply store I used to use biosilk and she was horrified and I found out I basically deep fried my hair for years.

I'd go with a dehumidifier, Grace. They do work. But nothing will stop mold once the spores are in the house. Your walls need to be cleaned with bleach (even if you can't see it black spores, wipe them down.) Do not vacuum mold. It spreads the spores. That will be the problem with a diffuser also. If there is mold on the rug, it needs to be cut out, lifted, and wiped underneath. Mold almost never comes out of carpets. It is a big process but extremely important because black mold causes lung issues, and no, you don't need a lot of it to cause problems. I know it is a pain, and a lot of work (because I have done the cleaning of it, redone the dry wall, repainted the new wall, scrubbed and sanded the floor.) Where I live, black mold has to be remediated by specialists before any construction/renovation work can go on. I wish you luck with it. Just don't use a diffuser. It will do what it is meant to do---spread the air around, and the air has mold spores in it. I'd apologize for going on, but it is an extremely important health issue and we LOVE you and your fellow Booths.

I *think* it's not black mold black mold, that seems to be talked about more in the US and taken very seriously. In the UK we don't really seem to have that issue as much(?) but we do have mold that appears black and can be on walls etc., it's not necessarily this super serious version of it and usually it can be removed fairly easily.

I always love your vlogs Grace! The New York ones were fun but the homey ones are my favourite 😊 I have a trick to de-ice your car btw, just get a plastic bag, one with no holes in - maybe a bag for life - and fill it with hot (not boiling) water so it doesn't melt the plastic, then drag the bag along your windshield and it melts instantly. There a plenty of demo videos on tik tok and it's much faster than scraping! Also put your phone in a bowl of dry rice overnight, that should sort out the water issue!

It's been unusually cold in the Netherlands as well. We're not used to these temperatures anymore in december (below freezing during the day, minus 8~10 in the night) but they used to be more common in the past. I know that's nothing compared to what Canadians can go through though. There's also a energy crisis going on which complicates things. How is it affecting you? I think dutch people are no longer prepared for this. I'm used to living in an appartement with bad insulation so it's pretty normal that during winter the living room temperature is 10C, so I already own an electric blanket and thermal leggings and thermal long sleeve shirt, plus a foot warmer and multiple cherry pit bags. Most people don't so there was a storm on thermal underwear, causing it to be sold out almost everywhere. In the 11 years I've lived here I've never seen the living room temperature go this low though. It read 6.5C a few days ago. With the heating on it didn't go above 11C and it would cost me an additional 70euro a month. My family offered to let me stay with them until the worst is over, so I've been nice and cosy for a few days now. The weather will be less cold tomorrow and I will be able to go home.
@kimgoreham1596 Жыл бұрын
@@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 that's so cold in your living room :( We don't have heat in our bedroom, and we live in a 100+ year old farmhouse (old for here) and it is super-drafty, but it hasn't gotten that cold. Maybe 10C in the coldest nights. Our main heating system is fueled by oil, with a wood-burning stove insert supplementing in our kitchen. Oil prices were 70 cents/ litre in 2020 and our last fill in November was $1.87/ litre (Canadian). Our January so far, however, I don't think we've seen below -8C at night and it's averaged about 0C. It's been an odd January.
@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 Жыл бұрын
@@kimgoreham1596 The weather has been odd here as well. A while ago the daytime temp reached +17C outside which is very unusual for January. We're wondering if we're going to go back and forth between unusually cold for the time of year and unusually warm for the time of year. Unusually heavy rainfall created some leaks I didn't know I had. I just put a towel under it and left it until it stopped. This apartment will no longer be rented but be sold and renovated after I move, which I hope will be this year. It does seem like oil prices were affected by the global situation, I hope you'll be okay.

Colossians 2:8 - Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Jeremiah 10:1-5 1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: 2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. Repent and turn to God & Jesus Christ His only begotten Son. God Bless all John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
