Finally an updated curly hair routine video! Here’s my previous routine (one of my most popular videos) - • How to wash and style ... - and all the products I used are below and in my blog post here www.hairromance.com/curly-hai...
To be honest my routine hasn’t changed that much in 3 years. I’m using a few different products but the method is similar. I truly believe that while products are amazing, the techniques are just as important to your curl results.

After watching this about 5 times I finally wrote down the steps in my notes if anyone needs them 😅 STEPS: 1. Wash hair using COLD WATER with natural shampoo 2. Olaplex No 3 for at least 10 min 3. Shampoo Olaplex out 4. Condition / masque (Jamaican masque) 5. While hair is soaking wet, apply Shea Smoothie from mid-length to ends using praying hands and scrunch (want squeeze sound) 6. Can section hair to make it easier 7. After you work the product through, you can start manipulating curls in sections that need it by twisting around finger and scrunching 8. Scrunch again with used T-shirt towel (don’t dry it out) 9. Take a TON of gel and use praying hands to smooth down the hair (don’t break the curls, just want to lock in the ones that are forming) want squeeze sound 10. Take t-shirt and scrunch out some water 11. If you want volume, add root clips now 12. If you’re going to diffuse, diffuse first then let hair air dry the last 15% 13. If you’re hair feels terrible and crispy bc of the gel that’s OK, it formed a cast 14. Take out clips if you used them 15. Scrunch hair with t-shirt towel, roll and break the cast in your hand 16. Can use some oil at the end of scrunching to prevent frizz 17. Put fingers into hair and shake the roots for volume 18. If you have large clumps just break them up and twist around finger

And people ask me why I don't wear my hair curly very often...it's a LOT of work! LOL! But this has definitely given me some ideas on how to work with the curls. I will have to try the clips on top since it's really the top and front of my curly hair that I don't like. The back and sides look ok and somewhat full but not so much in the front. (I also have thin hair, so I try to hide any really thin areas.) Anyway, thanks for the tips. (And you're fun to watch, so that helps!)

You have the perfect curls! I'm hoping I can work with the clips a little bit. My front always looks flat. Maybe a silly question. How do you know which products to use. Recently I always used mousse. I did like if for the most part but would have some frizz. Then I bought some cream recently which apparently I have no clue to put in. Any tips are great!!!

Wow thank you so much for this. I have natural curly hair and feel like I have been fighting against it all my life with straightening and trying to make it look different than what it is. Watching your video I am learning to love my curl and work with it not against it. I have bangs that I am growing out and those curls just seem to get away from me right now. Do you have any suggestions for this? Also what hair spray do you recommend?
@Hairromance

Thanks Tracy! You can finger coil your bangs to keep them in shape. This is where you twist them around your finger and set them with some product (usually curl cream). I love O&M Queenie hairspray and evo Helmut hairspray :) x

I have low porosity hair and my hair holds so much moisture and I hate feeling my hair drip on me. I apply my protein free leave in while I’m in the shower. I put my hair in a microfiber turban for 20-30 minutes and then I put my curl products in. My hair will be wet enough that you can hear it when in scrunch but not so wet it’s dripping everywhere. I do amika curl cream and then Aussie instant freeze gel and i get super shiny curls that way. To get more even curls I apply my products in three sections. Left side, back, and then right.

Soo good! For someone with 2c or 3a curls is using a curl cream better than say a mousse? I've used both gels, masques, and mousse. I find the mousse often dries out my hair and makes it hard. Ive never thought about a cream though! My biggest issue is moisture usually. Awesome videos! 👏👏👏

I style on damp hair, hair that's been in a microfiber towel for 30-45 min. to get most of the wetness out. It works for me. I don't have to use a lot of product either, just a few dollops for classic length (bum length) hair. It saves on product and works just as well, if not better (for me in any case).

Thanks so much Idoia! You can use a little more serum / oil to tame that frizz later in the day. Or try using more gel in the routine next time. Make sure your hair is 100% dry before scrunching out the crunch too. Hope this helps xx

So, do you not "plop" your hair in the tshirt? You apply products in the shower and then squeeze out excess water with the tshirt and then again after applying gel? Also, the Shea mask - is that a leave in? And then apply the Shea smoothie? I have very thick somewhat coarse (asian) hair so I like the Shea smoothie! Thanks for the video!
@Hairromance

Hi Lisa, thanks for watching! You're right, I don't "plop' and just use the tshirt like a towel and squeeze water from my hair. The Shea mask is a rinse out mask. I leave it on for about 5 mins or so and then rinse out. Then I apply the Shea smoothie. Hope that makes sense 😊 x

What settings do you use for dyson dryer?
@Hairromance
@Hairromance 5 жыл бұрын
I use it on medium heat and medium speed. At first I was using it on low speed but I find the diffuser is so well designed, the medium speed doesn't frizz my hair and dries my hair faster xx

Have you ever had any problem using the masque as a leave-in?
@theylikestars
@theylikestars 5 жыл бұрын
Txatx9 CRDE the mask is a little too heavy to use as a leave in, also it doesn't smell great. Shea moisture makes a JBCO leave-in though with the same ingredients as the mask, it's just made as a leave-in!
@Hairromance
@Hairromance 5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use this mask as a leave in as it has some protein in it but as Jaea said, there is a leave in product from Shea Moisture that's similar :) x

Curl clipping is something I haven’t mastered 🤣. I find it annoying. Have you tried Innersense hair products? They’re sold in salons in the USA and on their website. What do you think about glycerin? I live in an area where there’s a lot of humidity in the summer time. I’ve heard it’s better to avoid glycerin in styling products during the summer. Your results are beautiful 💜👍🏻

haha I just filmed another video today on clipping because I feel it deserves some love, but yes it's hard to master! I haven't tried Innersense but I do hear a lot of love for the brand. I'm not sure of my position on glycerin yet but I'm going to put my hair to the test and report back xx

At what point do you comb, brush or detangle?
@Hairromance
@Hairromance 3 жыл бұрын
I detangle when my hair is full of conditioner. I can get out most knots easily then with a wide tooth comb. But if my hair is really knotty, I very gently detangle before I shampoo. I use a leave in conditioner spray and brush slowly working from the bottom up. Hope this helps xx

How do I maintain my curly hair in summer? Because I bet the saltwater pool and sun all day damage it. What curl type is your hair?
@Hairromance
@Hairromance 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I think my curl is 2c-3a but I have a huge variety of curl types in my hair from 2b-3b. I always use a leave in conditioner in summer. I keep one in my beach bag. The main thing is to rinse your hair before and after swimming and then use a leave in conditioner and you'll be fine :) Also wear a hat as the sun is damaging to your skin and your hair xx

Does it work on wavy hair
@Hairromance
@Hairromance 5 жыл бұрын
I think the smoothie is too heavy for wavy hair, unless your hair is really thick and dry. Use a mousse or lighter curl cream instead. The same techniques should work though x

Way too much work to create curls... a little humidity and frizz and flop.... maybe a little mousse to enhance her waves., that would be quicker and probably look much more natural, than to try to create curls.... we are supposed to be natural... this is created, not natural.

She is not creating curls, she 's defining them. This only work if you're naturally curly. If I just air-dry my hair I look ridiculous. XD

Ilse Klein Velderman Looks to me like she has way hair, not curly hair. Of course you can create curls if you have wavy hair, but why not embrace and enhance your waves and be totally natural ...that’s the beauty of being natural embracing what you have isn’t it?
