That tofu in the jar is hairy tofu???? My grandma is Chinese and we always have that jar tofu. I really like it but never know what it actually is until today. I’m in shock and speechless rn

Yep just do a quick search and it indeed is hairy tofu. It’s called fu yu and the next time I have it I’m gonna ask everyone if they know this

I didn't know what I was looking at, and internalized that I would likely not eat this. Until I saw the Jar and realize I eat this all the time not knowing how it was created.
Props to anyone who is able to eat this stuff. I hear its really good for your gut health, I just cant get past the smell sadly. Ive had so many opportunities to try this but I chickend out every. Damn. Time.

Tofu has no smell unless it's fermented or you get the stinky tofu, get some firm tofu marinated put it into a soup a stir-fry anyting it takes whatever flavour you give to it because it's pretty bland, I explained it as a flavor sponge

@@Kurogane_666 I don't have any problems eating regular tofu. Soondubu Jigae is actually my favorite food in the entire world. I'm talking the fermented stuff. I always smell it grilling at the night market but chicken out in trying it

I give it up to anyone that can eat something that's hairier than them lol, but I would enjoy seeing how stinky tofu is made, I've seen a video and it looked like sewage water being used Oo

depends, but far from its tofu origin. usually soft and a bit mushy, sticky, can be salty or sweet. We don't eat them directly.

very difficult to descibe, nothing unpleasent. the large protein chains are broken down into amino acids, texture is more delicate and refined than normal tofu, tastes more umami notes. i dont think it actually has any smell. ofc im describing hairy tofu itself. When made into condiments like the finished product you see in the video, they are spicy with strong liquor smell. People dont really eat hairy tofu by itself apart from certain areas in Anhui provinence and around

Its generally a little stanky but not as bad as that gray fermented tofu in a jar. Ive had many chances to try this but Ive chickened out every time lol. I hear its great if you can stomach the smell tho. Good for your gut health

@@dimserene i think they are asking if its the same as that really intense one that you can get in a jar. They are both def fermented tofu, but one is way more dank than the other.
The room where they ferment and get fuzzy probably smells so intense
