I'm in the middle of changing my haldex fluid. You do something with VCDS on your laptop to prime the pump then runs it with all 4 wheels off the ground to get fluid into the filter and pump. I can run it with the wheels up but I don't have the VCDS setup. Am I ok just running it with the wheels up and if so how long do I need to do that? I think he did it till it warmed up but I don't know how to know if it's warm. Is 5 min or so ok? Thanks!

Great video! I recently had a haldex service done on my mk6R but the mechanic was telling me there is no filter. Now a couple days later I have a “0048 haldex pump v181” open circuit error in VCDS. Also trying to check the pump in output tests I can’t hear anything whirring. My R is FWD 😢

Hmmm interesting. In theory not replacing the filter would not impact that (in fact maybe less since setting the fluid is not as consuming because you do not need to re prime the system as much for a level check). 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

@@brycecarlson yes. Im starting to think my pump has taken a shit.

@@brycecarlson Like you think regardless of replacing the filter, my pump was due to die? I think the filter is definitely a contributing factor. My problem now is whether or not to take my car back to this mechanic and have him replace the filter or do everything myself. I'm a semi competent DIYer, have the VCDS cable and everything so I think I can tackle this job. My only limiting factor is having the garage cleaned out in time to do the repair LOL

@@darkstar9008 yeah that is a tough call. I have never done any of the adaptation or even looked into replacing the pump itself. My only thought would be if maybe changing the fluid clogged the pump after the fresh fluid started flowing and dislocated a chuck of metallic gunk. Kind of like old auto transmissions and when the ATF has not been changed for 100-150k plus miles.
@darkstar90082 жыл бұрын
@@brycecarlson interesting. I like that theory and it seems very plausible as to why I’m experiencing this. I’m gonna be tackling the job myself and hoping for the best. Car only has 30k miles on it, but with the haldex fluid needing servicing every 2 years/ no record of it being done. I’m just praying that a new filter, pump, and fluid will be my saving grace and not a brand new haldex unit

Great video, can I ask what car lift you are using?

Wow Haldex/BorgWarner finally smartened up did a drain and fill plug. I have a MK4 R32 with the first Gen Haldex system. There’s only one way to fill and drain through the same hole.
@brycecarlson2 жыл бұрын
Yeah; I saw some videos of that. No thanks. This is not that bad.

Awesome video! Thank you! Are you able to do a rear diff seals at some point?
@brycecarlson Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Maybe. So far with 229k miles on it they have yet to leak at all so we will see if/when that happens.

Is it bad if you drain it after 100.000 k.m , there will be any issues? Thanks love

I mean if you change it to new oil ?

Hey Bryce, thanks for the vid, very helpful. What’s size Allen key for plugs?
@brycecarlson Жыл бұрын
Glad it helped! I am 99% sure it was a 5mm.... But I do not recall exactly.
@brycecarlson Жыл бұрын
It is 4mm for the filter housing. You can see it at time code 3:46.

8mm for the drain plug. You can see it at time code 2:24.

5mm for the fill plug I think. It's all in the video

Hi, i just wanna ask, if there is a way to change the N373 solenoid valve without changing the oil. Thanks
@brycecarlson Жыл бұрын
Ha; had to look that part up quick did not remember it from the 4th gen diagram. I just changed the filter here. I would not think their is a way since you have to remove the cover/housing and the fluid could come out.

The dealership were surprised when I asked if they were going to change the filter. Do you know if VW has the filter as a serviceable part?
@brycecarlson2 жыл бұрын
@@dimis7703 I would think they could get the part. It is just the kit from Haldex. Most dealers just change the fluid.

Would this be the same on my 2016 audi tt ?
@brycecarlson4 ай бұрын
@@adamlcline9279 can not speak for all regions of the world (can really only speak to the USDM models) but it would be very similar as the Haldex was a a carry over part in large till the Mk 8 Golf R where it got the torque vectoring differential.

a mechanic on my country told me that we can i use sae 75w-90 for haldex oil And he already did that to many golf MK6 R for my friends I just wanted to know if it's risky and what will happen if this oil is not compatible
@nowake Жыл бұрын
The oil in this unit goes between friction plates/clutch, not just bevel gears in a differential. It's a specialized unit that takes specialized oil, I'd say you should probably look up the correct OEM fluid or a certified replacement fluid - likely mail order anywhere. 75w-90 might work for a while, but who knows for how long, and likely no going back once you do.
@phreddykramerКүн бұрын
I wouldn't risk it to save a few bucks. The haldex unit is pricey if it breaks. You can get a haldex kit including filter and new plugs from FCP Euro for $60 and my mechanic has fluid for $30
