I see this a lot in music...two artists at the top of their game seem to be more interested in embracing friendship and what they can create together than in being rivals...whereas in many other pursuits like politics, business, and sports, they tend to embrace rivalry instead. I like music better. :-)

You can always tell when Elizabeth is enjoying a song a bit too much. She completely drops the professional persona, and looks like a little kid being surprised with ice cream. Its rather cool actually to see someone who is clearly a professional in an area, but still has the ability to tap into what made them love it in the first place.

The way this started was Amy approaching Lzzy when they were on tour together in 2012 and asked Lzzy if she (Amy) could come out and sing backup on this song. They ended up doing it as a duet for the rest of the tour, and then when Halestorm decided to include it on their 'Reimagined' EP they invited Amy to come record it finally.

Elizabeth, your physical reaction is so wholesome - it's like you're watching two of your friends just absolutely crushing it and rooting them on as they do it! You strike this uncommon balance- one that I rarely see in the musical reaction/analysis genre- between being objective, technical, and analytical about the music while also emphasizing and reminding us (the listeners) that they are also two humans expressing authentic, relatable emotions.

An interesting thing that you bring up the different way they moved their hands. It sort of mirrors their voices. Amy's is like a calm ocean horizon, serene and almost haunting, whereas Lzzy's is more like rolling waves, it can be rough and more chaotic but it can also be soft. Truly a beautiful duet.

Amy and Lzzy voices just blend so well together. Amy Lee is such a nerd of harmonies by the way. She loves doing them. If you want to react to another of her most beautiful duets you should react to her featuring for the last EP from Bring Me The Horizon. It’s called “one day the only butterflies left will be in your chest as you march towards your death”. She harmonised with Oly Sykes and it sounds like a very tragic love story, even though the lyrics draw inspiration from Human Kind toxic relationship with our planet.

They way you break down the vocal techniques in a way that everyone can understand sets you apart from other music reviewers who often either have a short and dry review or who display a disengenuous exagerated response with no real explanation. This shows a knowledgable and genuine expertise that is truly refreshing to watch. The expression and animation in your face when listening to the music, especial in the eyes and brow, reminds me of the awe and wonder in the eyes of a child who experiences something amazing for the first time. Your animated and expressive eyes and the way you smile, even the slope of the bridge of your nose, reminds me of modern disney princesses from movies like Tangles and Frozen. All of this combines to make for the most enjoyable experience. Thank you for sharing with us and thank you for being you. God Bless!

If you close your eyes and listen to each voice imagine each one is its own character in a ballet dancing through, your mind's eye. Lzzy's character is lost in a void looking for hope, hearing the echo of her love calling her home like a light house. as they dance around the story get even more beautiful, helping each other grow and build the sound together. They are each other's safe place to breakdown and confided in and as they switch rolls in the song it is showing the dance of their voices even more. It is truly a beautiful song and dynamically executed.

LYRICS HERE: Put your lighter in the air and lead me back home When it's all said and done, I'll follow the echoes I hear you night after night calling out my name, uuh And I find myself running to meet you I didn't want to escape From the bricks that I laid down You are the only one The only one that sees me Trusts me and believes me You are the only one The only one that knows me And in the dark to show me Yeah, it's perfectly reckless Damn, you leave me defenseless So break in Break in You let me fall apart without letting go Then you pick up the pieces and you make me whole I didn't want to escape From the bricks that I laid down You are the only one The only one that sees me Trusts me and believes me You are the only one The only one that knows me And in the dark to show me Yeah, it's perfectly reckless Damn, you leave me defenseless So break in And take everything I have Till there is nothing left Till it's just your voice in my head And when the lights come on You see me as I am You're still inside me You are the only one The only one that sees me That trusts me and believes me You are the only one The only one that knows me And in the dark you show me Yeah, it's perfectly reckless Damn, you leave me defenseless So break in Break in Put your lighter in the air and lead me back home

Lzzy wrote such inspiring words and included guitar picks and such. She was so impactful to my daughter. I later took her to see Evanescence for her 16th birthday and she got to meet Amy and the band. My daughter was so emotional and teary eyed and Amy just pulled her into a sweet bear hug and whispered words of encouragement. This song is one that personifies what these two can truly do. This was my third time hearing this song and it still gives me shivers hearing the hauntingly beautiful and perfectly poignant harmonies that make the love talked about in the song become that much more connected to the listener. I met Amy Lee on October 24, 2006 and to tell you she is as genuine off stage as she is on stage is the biggest understatement of the century. This song shows that about both of them. They actually used a compositional technique called cross-voicing (which I think was mentioned in the video) and that technique is something that really helps the parts become more interesting than just keeping the high voice high and the low voice low (as they both have impeccable ranges) and it also helps with word painting, especially in this song where they have lyrics that talk about having or experiencing pain and the voices will cross, showing that pain. I truly experience the lyrics whenever I hear this song because they use compositional techniques, vocal techniques, and sparsity in the music, as well, to show raw feelings. Both are also amazing classical composers as well and Any Lee was trained in classical voice and technique (I'm not sure about Lizzie Hale, but it sure looks like she is). I am so impressed, too, with the passion they show when they are completely in sync with each other because they use that togetherness to create some of the most beautiful harmonies I have ever heard, and they help me to understand that rock/gothic rock music is not only about heavy, fast, chugging guitars, but it's about the sound the artist wants to portray with the music and (typically) how much pain the writer of the song has gone through. What a surreal fantasy this is to hear the perfect mesh of voices speak to me in this way. This song is incredible, not only because Amy Lee is my biggest musical hero and inspiration, but because the song was well done. I do not think I have heard a better song in the last 25 years (other than any Evanescence song) and I credit Amy Lee and Lizzie Hale for making this--one of my biggest musical fantasies--come true, and also for showing all of us what musicality, showmanship, passion for music, and incredible talent is. Thank you Charismatic Voice for sharing your thoughts on this song and for sharing what it means to be a great musician!

Amy is the same, she doesn’t just sing her music flows out of her as if she cannot contain it. You did a very accurate evaluation of the song.

Oh, I hadn't listened to this song in a while. It's gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Beautiful rendition *chef's kiss*

So can't wait to see these two absolute powerhouses of Rock again come December! They're both easily in the top 10 of this generation so to be able to see them together, and especially experience their harmonies will be a great way to slip back into live music after far too long away.

This is one of my favourite Halestorm songs, Lizzy is so underrated as a softer singer since she has such a big voice most of the time. Add in Amy Lee and I don't think you can get more perfect. I used to skip through your commentary when you paused because I was more interested in seeing your reactions as you watched than hearing analytics, I'm so glad I stopped doing that. Now, when I go watch the original video I can take all the comments you made and watch for those moments and enjoy the video that much more than I could have without them

Seeing this live, and the obvious love and joy they have doing this song together is incredible!!! I've seen some incredible bands and live shows in my 50 years, but these two, doing this live, gets me every single time!

So, this is what Lzzy and Amy sound like together? It's even more beautiful than I ever hoped. Their voices cure the agony of my soul. New favorite. \m/

Not only does Amy Lee have the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, she is also the most beautiful woman in the world. She absolutely takes my breath away.

I'm seeing both of them in concert in December, and I hope they do this song together during the show. I've seen Halestorm a dozen times or so live, they are freaking awesome.

Just love Lizzy's voice. She brings a tear with songs like this but then drive you forward with Halestorm's heavier songs. One of my favourite female singers along with Amy Lee so this song is just awesome

No joke, this song hangs on my bedroom wall as a love song my wife bought me as an anniversary gift

I love that we have a song about how love forces you to let down your walls and be vulnerable, with Lzzy's vocals being more raw and emotional and Amy's being calming and stablizing. This is a tremendously beautiful duet.

Well, you are in for a treat my friend, she's already done a video on My Immortal! Edit: And I second your recommendation on Seether's Broken ft. Amy!

Hopefully she does a reaction to the version of My Immortal with piano one day too. Both versions are great, but that one feels like it fits the song better in my opinion

Maybe it’s just me because I’m older but when Lizzy isn’t using her “big voice” she reminds me a lot of Pat Benatar. This actually sounds like it could have been a duet between Pat Benatar and Ann Wilson

I love this... it is amazing to hear the two of them singing together like this. It's the first time I've heard this duet version of the song, my only experience with it is from their studio album, The Strange Case of Halestorm. It has a lot of that just rawness in it even there, and it is one of my favorite songs of theirs, especially coming as a part of the kind of mid-album breather they've got in there (after Love Bites (So Do I), Mz. Hyde, I Miss the Misery, and Freak Like Me), with Beautiful With You and In Your Room, ramping back up again with Rock Show to get to Daughters of Darkness and You Call Me a Bitch Like Its a Bad Thing. I really do love their final song from that album, Here's To Us, giving kind of a final taste of peace when it's all wrapping up.
