From someone who played violin professionally for quite a few years, what Lindsey does is very impressive. I mean she has good technique, and I like in this song how she has some fairly fast runs but each note is distinct. Like Elizabeth said, stringed instruments tend to sound Legato, as if the notes are run together. To get a crisp, more Staccato sound you have to get fancy with the bow. That's not easy. Not at the speed she's doing it anyway. But the thing that sets her apart is her stage performances where she dances while playing. That's basically impossible. I believe she was told along the way by more than a few people that it was impossible and she should give up. This wasn't just someone who had the perseverance to achieve something difficult. It's more like being told your whole life that gravity is not optional, and you refuse to believe that and somehow learn to fly. She's an inspiration. I'd be happy with 10% of her determination.

She's a fighter. So many times she was faced with a excuse to why she should quit she instead took it as a challenge and showed that what was said as impossible is only said by those that lacked the courage to even attempt it. She is a true role model with an unbeatable spirit.

@gwydion563 жыл бұрын
Well-stated! Yes, we even got to see her be told on TV that what she was attempting was impossible. A few years later I was getting to watch Lindsey dead center from less than 10 feet from the stage doing the "impossible". And in the years since she has just continued to smash barrier after barrier, overcoming pain and everything else in her path to do what no one else can do. Yes, with 10% of her determination I would have been 1000% more accomplished than I am.

The keyboardist in this video is Jason Gaviati 'Gavi' , and was Lindsey's best friend. It was absolutely amazing watching these two interact both on and off stage, check out some of the live performances of Round Table Rival with him. In her documentary 'Brave Enough' Lindsey talks about how supportive he was and how he was always there with a hug when she needed it. Gavi developed a very nasty cancer while on tour for Shatter me and passed away rather suddenly. Shortly after this Lindsey also lost her father as well, and it was devastating to her. Shatter me was all about breaking free of the her eating / mental disorders. Her third album 'Brave Enough' is about dealing with the loss of her father and Gavi. It features a lot more vocalists such as Andrew McMahon, Cara Faye, ZZ Ward, Rivers Cuomo and Lecrae. It really was an amazing and powerful album that you should check out, it tops this album as one of me favorites that she release.

The part for me is what I hear and how I relate. We are far from perfect as Human and each of our experiences are personal. How we connect or relate to something or someone is an expression or our experiences in life. As imperfect as we are its as equally beautiful if we choose to see it. Lyrical poetry as I've often heard it described as is a deep form of therapy for my soul. As some may think Soup is good for you while being sick. Music with Passion is My Chicken Noodle soup for my Soul. Depression can be very dark, and music such as this is opening the Black out curtains for me.. thank you ..
@chriswhinery9253 жыл бұрын
Your interpretation is perfectly valid, too. Lindsey may have written it about her own struggles with an eating disorder but smart songwriters like her leave the lyrics a little more on the vague side so that they can be more relatable to more people. For her the song is about an eating disorder but the actual lyrical content of the song is just about struggling with with an unnamed something that you're too afraid to tackle yourself and crying out for help from someone else. The unnamed something could be anything that the listener has struggled with now or in the past. I assume that's what she was going for. That, or the lyrics are vague because nothing really rhymes with anorexia.

Her stance is pretty common for metal singers who also play guitar. The knee props the guitar up just enough for what they need to do and obviously lean a bit forward towards the microphone. Lizzie plays guitar on a good amount of her songs so im not surprised at all if she has this habit even without playing the guitar. She seriously is talented, a huge amount of power, strong vibrato, real steady with no shakes etc. It's harder for women to sing more metal compared to men and you really just gotta have it naturally and Lizzie really really does.

This isn't the only song where Lzzy does this, but you can really hear it in this tune. She really has incredible pitch. There are a few different parts where she enters and needs to immediately be in unison with the violin. Just before the "shatter" in the chorus you can hear the violin. If she was even a little out of pitch with those parts you'd immediately be able to tell due to it being unison...and she just absolutely nails it.

I'm not a vocalist. Have always been a guitar player. Your positive and informative commentary is always a delight to listen to. I've learned to appreciate so many little things about vocalists, that I never knew. I can definitely see you as being somebody's favorite vocal coach. I could have used your help back in music school. :)

You should cover her colab with The HU some time.

it is great... I think there might be issues with the copyright noise with The Song of Women... I've asked about this before at one of the true vocal teacher channels (might have been here) and I heard there were concerns about the proprietary noise that will take down a legit breakdown because it is tied to a channel that may be monitized... so you can watch the video but you aren't allowed to comment and post on a great channel. its a shame.

Absolutely love both of them, they're both just phenomenal. I've only been to one live concert in my life and Halestorm was there. 5 rows away un amplified Lzzy sounds exactly the same. She has such a powerful and amazing voice.

Lzzy Hale is just one of those chameleon vocalists that just...can do so many different genres for different artists. Once again I gotta highly recommend doing Song of Women by The Hu feat. Lzzy. The Hu asked her to write lyrics ON TOP of the lyrics already in place, which is INSANE. What she wrote honors the original lyrics magnificently, and it's just a brilliant collaboration

Mmmmm yes. And if you enjoy looking at something outside of our western singing boxes, the Hu with their Mongolian throat singing is a real treat!

Was wondering if this track was going to win out once Hale storm appeared on your docket. It's how I discovered Lzzy Hale, and Lindsey Stirling was one of the very first channels I subbed to on YT. And that was without knowing she was on AGT, just followed a recommendation to "Crystallized" and thought it was amazing, so promptly fell down the rabbit hole. Thanks for selecting this next!

I'm never ready for this song to end. This is my favorite version of the song and I'm glad you finally reacted to it. Lzzy's voice, IMO, perfectly matches the lyrics of the song and I don't think that there is anybody that could have done a better job at conveying the emotions of Lindsey's lyrics. This is why Lzzy is my favorite singer of all time. Not only is she technically brilliant, but she can make lyrics feel personal, which is the point of music, right? I've watched the original video countless times and now I can watch your video countless times. Thank you!

Great reaction, Elizabeth! This performance absolutely floored me. I have seen the official video, and in my opinion this studio performance is SO much more powerful. The emotion conveyed in Lzzy’s vocals is stunning. Thanks for doing this one.

It's so refreshing to have this level of reaction video. Your passion and excitement is contagious. Even though I admit my ignorance to anything related to singing. 99% of the terms you are using, I have no idea what your talking about. But when you play back, I hear what your describing for the very first time. Thank you so much. Curious if you would do a reaction to: Lorde - Everybody wants to rule the world. I fell in love with this version of this song but have no idea what it is about her voice that entrances me.

I had not previously seen this version. I love the music video, but this stripped-down version delivers a rawness to the anguish of the chorus that isn't apparent in the MV.

Everytime I listen or sing along to this song it just gets me to tears. Everything about it is just so perfect. The lyrics, the violin, the arrangement... I played violin for like 2 years when I was a kid and had someone like Lindsey Stirling be famous at the time, maybe I would have continued. Now, I'm currently trying to get back to music as a singer and it's so fun to hear that she intended to collab on this song with Amy Lee. Growing up I used to train my head voice by singing along to Evanescence so it totally makes sense I'm having a lot of fun singing along to this. Such a beautiful song and great commentary on Lindseys and Lizzys performance!

My reccomendation for a future reaction is Halestorm's Love Bites (So do I). The acoustic version from the live room is something truly special, combining both speed and energy with brain-melting belts! kzbin.info/www/bejne/opDPf4eihcRmeNE

The live performance of "Familiar Taste of Poison" from one of the talk shows is one I love using to introduce people to Halestorm, because Lzzy just punches you in the face with her talent and vocal control. She also does a damned acoustic good cover of "Girl Crush" that should be way more well known (^_^)

I was going to bring up the 'Song of Women' as well - nice to see someone else recognize what an amazing collab it is. Side note to you and Elizabeth is that I commented on the video with the lyrics including the transliterated Mongolian. My comment only has 116 reactions, but please look for it if you'd like an accurate translation since other lyric comments aren't precise since they are referring to an older version of the song that was a different edit of the song (and without Lzzy). :-D

Give Killswitch Engage - The signal fire a listen. It's another metal band but there is some history between the 2 singers in the band. The original Jesse Leach who had to step aside because of health issues. Howard Jones stepped in who eventually also had to step aside due to health issues. Jesse then returned. This song has both in it with amazing vocal contrast!
@FISHYFILMPRODUCTIONS3 жыл бұрын
There is actually way more to it than that. Jesse left the band very shortly before a tour, there was a very little time to find a new singer. Howard stepped in and learned the songs days before. There was a lot of animosity between the rest of the band and Jesse, particularly the bass player. They did make up a few years before Jesse rejoined. Ironically, Howard left the band in the middle of a tour, citing his diabetes, he latee clarified that he had stage fright and it was making his diabetes worse because of the stress. Jesse struggled with rejoining due to having to sing someone else's material.

@devangriffith10953 жыл бұрын
@@FISHYFILMPRODUCTIONS Sadly, I think it was more than a stage fright issue. Howard has suffered with anxiety/depression for many years (nearly committing suicide at one point), which was exacerbated by performances and fame. The signal fire (the requested song here) is about mental illness.
