On June 1st, 2021, twitch streamer 'wayneradiotv' was linked to a workshop page for a newly uploaded mod for Half-Life: Alyx. A mod that would "breathe life" into Gnome Chompski. He installed it, hoping to make the stream of his "gnome run" more interesting. He was not aware of the myth, but that didn't matter anymore. The following footage is documentation of the "Gnome Edition's" existence and what its discovery unleashed into the world.

This is actually literary genius. The red gnome has required constant attention and maintenance through the game, becoming the main source of conflict but also our hero's closest companion. It's tempting to ask why the gnome is worth the effort, why his Meters must be upkept, why he takes but never gives. The blue gnome is the answer. The blue gnome can move on its own. The blue gnome is near the end, simplifying the challenge. The blue gnome wants to give all he can to Wayne, including itself. The blue gnome should be the easy way out. What is the blue gnome? A fucking creep that shows up at the end, tries to wedge himself between our hero and his charge, expresses his need to please through endless uncomfortable sexual overtures, and won't leave us alone. The red gnome, who needs and asks and wants, is Wayne's friend. The blue gnome is painful for Wayne to be around. Thematic genius. This series deserves an Emmy.

@@specter_8885 Wayne did a Behind the Scenes on Twitch after the Act 4 stream, the Gnomes, the Announcer and Gaben were all controlled by Holly, Baulp, Scorpy, and a few others via a text to speech discord bot, that stream was also a blast to watch, hope it gets turned into a video aswell after the series is done.

i love how, in most normal circumstances, the red gnome is a chaotic and impulsive beast who speaks in contradictory lines and changes opinions on things constantly. but the second the blue gnome comes along, there is only one, consistent opinion he has. and it's that blue gnome fucking sucks

Holy shit. There's so much detail in the editing! The Steam achievement at 3:49, the Gabe subtitles, the new lines that weren't on the streams, etc... And the stuff from the other videos that are also really surprising, like the gnome echoing when getting far from it and the meters looking like they are actually in-game. It's honestly amazing the attention to detail!

The addition of the blue gnome is honestly nothing short of narrative genius. With Wayne and the red gnome becoming closer as friends, The sort of conflict the series originally had fades away, thus, a new obstacle needs to be added in order for the two characters to grow closer and have a common enemy. Props you guys for making stories that are both entertaining to watch and extremely funny!

I am so mad at myself for taking this long to finally watch this series. The blue gnome was the absolute perfect addition to the series to keep it from getting stale now that we actually like red. Just such a great mix of disgustingly cunning and hilariously vile. That was just an amazing choice of voice too, the TTS has been on point the whole series, but bluey takes it to a whole new level.

Half-Life Self-Aware AI surprised me because of its clever insertion of Gordon being stuck around a bunch of clueless NPCs acted by real people in Gmod which made modding really simple, but this? This has me so confused since this is a VR game and I don’t know how easy they are to mod and Wayne’s reactions to some of the things happening around him literally sound genuine, like the Gabe Newell thing. Also, the people playing the gnomes sound both robotic and alive at the same time which messes with my mind since I assume they’re real people using sound boards here and there. I really hope you make a small director commentary on this like Self-Aware AI because I really need to understand how you did this haha The addition of a second gnome and modding in the game completely changed this series around for me since I originally found it pretty underwhelming compared to the Half-Life 1 one. I absolutely love it now!

Everyone except for Wayne and Baaulp in this series is voiced by an AI text-to-speech being controlled by multiple people. That's why the gnomes don't seem to really follow one train of thought: many people are all putting commands into the AI at once, and the text-to-speech queues all the lines up and plays them in the order that they were inputted.
