I was in that race myself, trying to set a new PB of sub 90 minutes. I think there is an incredibly important point that you've forgotten to mention in the video. It was unexpectedly hot this day and temperatures went through the roof during the first 10k of the race. I started just 5 minutes after block a and I was therefore going through the same conditions as the top athletes. I missed my PB by about 40 seconds that day and I'm quite sure that the 24+°C degrees were the main cause for not just me but also the pros failing that day.

So going out a full minute faster than world record pace and dropping out before halfway is the best pacing job this year? Am I doing this right? 😅😅😅

He said before the race he wanted to go for the WR.
@DavidDeeble9 ай бұрын
@@RareosIf so then the pacer’s performance was even more incompetent. A full minute below world record pace at 5k and then dropping out just 10k? If the world record is the goal then staying close to world record pace is paramount.

@@DavidDeeble pretty sure Ebenyo and his pacer had discussed whatever risk they chose to take. But sounds like they should have for sure consulted you for a bit of unfiltered realism…bring them back to earth right.

@@Rareos The sleight of hand directed away from my argument and toward the one *making* the argument hasn’t gone unnoticed. Besides, even if the issue *were* me rather than the notion that a world record requires prudence as well as fitness, my perspective would have served him better than his pacer did.

If he had relay pacers, someone to pace him through the 2nd 10,000 he possibly could have done it. The 5 and 10k times were nuts! I enjoyed your commentary and entire production, thanks

My first half was a similar experience. I totally get what he went through! 😫 No distance markers until mile 5 and I was a minute ahead of my goal pace and past 10k it felt like flying a plane with both engines on fire my legs were utterly failing on the hills. I couldn’t hold onto the lead, though, and finished 10th. I’m glad I had that experience. I did to train for a summit climb and the mountain was a cakewalk in comparison.

It wasnt ebenyo only having upsets. berlin may not ideally deliver world record in halfmarathon due to the sharp bends and curves.The turning is just boring like cross country . Furthermore it might count flat but reallity it is hard like running on grandprix circuit .Though with some slight downracing but constantly pounding a boring raised flat. The weather conditions were just for ebenyo and group terrible today especially in the second half. Most people who went out hard met the wrath of sunny temperatures and heated up .They faded off. I saw many people pull out way into the first half. Nevertheless,organisation and the mood are always top.

Very negative commentary. The guy is doing good. No one caught him. That is not unusual at the finish. Give the guy a break. As for the race it was NOT professionally run. The driver at the end almost hit the runner. Bicycles riding left and right. Too many cars on the road. Way too many cyclists on the road.

Those cars and motorbikes swerved erratically almost took out the wheelchair racer. Such poor driving.
