Enjoyed your tour inside the race of your life. The fact you dropped a16:53 in that last 5K split shows what an amazing race you were having until the very end. No fade - just pedal to the metal. And if anyone wants proof on how much you love Daniel, you gave him half of each of your doughnuts. Now that’s sharing and caring. Love the grind, Phily!

Such an inspiring message 🥲 I’ve run my first marathon one week ago at the age of 40 after 2 years running (before was couch and 12kg heavier). I ran my first marathon 3:29:53 after a building that had good and bad days, some easier or though workouts. But were you and Dan were a great inspiration 🙏🏼 thanks, sincerely ❤ love the grind

For just 2 years and with no offence intended, starting this late and still going sub 3:30:00 is massive! Congratulations! You should keep the 3 hour mark as a lifetime target and play the long game with some S&C and mobility work and drills.

Insane work Philly! You're so right about feeling awful during the taper! I felt so restless because I wasn't running as much, and didn't know what to do with myself. I'd also get random aches and pains that left me constantly worrying that I was injured. I ran my first half-marathon 2 weekz ago having only started running in February. I ran 2:15:50, when I didn't think I could run faster than 2:30 My first marathon is booked for Belfast in May, and I'm hoping to run under 4 hours. Your journey and this channel is a big inspiration for me!

I discovered your videos after my bf told me about you because he watches your running experiences and training. I started watching you as well and while I am not a runner I find you very motivational and I want to thank you for inspiring both him and I to challenge ourselves. Yesterday I walked my first half marathon (again I hope to run one day but not a runner yet) and I really think you helped motivate me to do it and finish even though I was at the back of the pack. Thank you again and congratulations on your accomplishment!

I have felt in a bit of a flunk with running but watching this video has lit me up a little again. After I got my first sub 20 5k, I kind of thought... well I've achieved that, so now what? My training has fluctuated since then and I have not had a sub 20 5k since then and the goal was to go for a sub 40 10k. Seeing you breeze through sub 3:30 for a marathon has made me think, 4:00 as a barrier is all in my head. So thank you, good luck for your next training block and I look forward to watching your progress :)

Huge congratulations on a massive PB, Philly. From what you posted in the buildup I think the improvement is down to; i) Longer stay at altitude - you are clearly a runner who benefits from training high! ii) Different coach/training routine. More volume than in previous marathon blocks. Double thresholds; is the main benefit of those days that you get ina big volume (must be 20 miles+ if you count two warmups and cooldowns) but maybe as many as 12 of those miles are good quality running - race pace or faster. iii) Simply reaping the benefits of years of solid training. No race result is merely the result of the training you do in the few months prior to the race. Future goals? Like fellow KZbinr Adam Fogg found when he ran his sub 3:50 mile, a lot of doors will open for you now in terms of race entries etc. Next year's world champs?
