She’s actually the one who died (notice she has bandages on her wrists, her feet never touch the ground, kids don’t see her on the playground etc...) and it’s her ghost walking around as a tormented soul. It’s her own personal hell for taking her own life (probably because of the break up). As long as he’s tormented by memories of her, she’ll always be there lingering as a prisoner of pain.

@@darrenweston1618 Yes, yes about Moody's grandfather (not grandmother) as far as the song being written. Moody's own words were "Lyrically about a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won't leave you alone." The video, however per David Mould (Director) purposely made Amy the ghost. :)

This song means so much to me. It’s my mother’s favorite song. She’s not dead but she is lost. My mother started using herion after I turned 18. She struggled with opioids most of my childhood but once she started herion she completely left us and is now homeless. We try to help her but she doesn’t want it. Now the chorus resonates so differently to me. It’s like it’s my mom singing it to me. She used to wipe my tears, fight my fears and hold my hand. But now I’m the one holding on. I don’t wanna let go of the mother I once knew and I want her back. Anyway it’s a beautiful song and you two have such a wonderful energy that even though I’m crying I’m also smiling. ❤️

This song was mostly written by ex-cofounder Ben Moody (guy on the piano), and Amy (singer) wrote the bridge. The song was mostly his and about his grandfather. Some people speculate it’s about Amy’s sister, who she lost when she was around 6 years old, but it’s not. ‘Hello’ and ‘Like You’ are about Amy’s sister.

Ben Moody wrote the basis for this while coping with the death of his grandfather. Amy wrote the bridge and I'm sure she had some influence regarding the loss of her sister. Amy is portraying the part of an Angel which is why her feet never touch the ground.

@@pmaster1173 it's not. another sign of it not being about her sister is the fact that she never sings 'Hello' and 'Like You' live- fearing she'll get too upset and in her feels while singing. she's played My Immortal live so many times, she jokes about it and they no longer play it live ( except as a special treat for the crowd if EV and Amy are up for it ) because she's played it so many times. I have only ever seen Amy do 'Like You' ONCE and she didn't even sing it, she just played the piano instrumental of it before another song.

This song is almost 20 years old now and came out when I was in my early 20's. It's a song that defiantly hits harder today. Back then, to me it was just a great song by an awesome singer, now it's a powerful emotional song. I can now relate to the lyrics, but not just towards a specific loss or relationship with someone, but towards my memories, my moments, and my mind. The older we get, the more the memories hurt, not just the sad and/or bad ones, like losing a loved ones, as I have lost both my parents over the last twelve years, but the good ones also, like having a wonderful childhood, first getting marriage, your children's births and them being young, these memories of life, moments of time, will never be as great as it once was, as certain moments that will never be experienced again like they were when we lived them. My memories, both happy and sad, are slowly killing me as I can't let go and depend on them so much.

I liken it to my own personal situation : in my case - someone I love was deported- he was forced to leave me behind along with his child , and although he was gone (he was still with me all along- (in his son ) 17 years have gone by and I still feel it when I hear this song ... - great song ...

This lady can sing anything. I was watching a bluegrass music program on PBS with my father a few years ago and all of a sudden she comes out to sing with the other performers. I told my dad hey, she's a great singer. Don't think he believed me but by the songs end he was convinced.

It's 0307hrs in Hertfordshire, England. Can't sleep, got work in under 3hrs. Having binned off loads of my subscriptions because they were negative or I didn't bother watching them, you guys are one of the few. I've only been a subscriber for a couple of days, Bill Burr got me here. Thank you Bill/KZbin algorithm because you guys make my heart sing and give me hope for 2021. You are such a wonderful, positive couple, thank you. We need more positivity. I'd suggest you guys look at Micky Flanagan for comedy, he is from where my family are and he embodies the ruthlessness of them. As far as songs go, Bon Jovi Mtv Awards 1989 Living on a Prayer/Wanted Dead or Alive is where MTV Unplugged was born and then Pearl Jam - Black Unplugged for the pinnacle in my opinion. Such power and emotion. Thank you guys for making me smile and feel that all is not lost before we hit 2021. Be excellent to each other.

I didn’t! I remember loving this song when it came out way too long ago when i was...”cool” and young.... now I’m “old” (I’m 30 in a couple weeks. and my 8-year-old son calls that old Imao) and lame..... but this has always been one of those songs I’ll always like and remember. It was super awesome to see someone react to this after all these years! ***If you guys take reaction requests, I have a song that I’ve been incessantly commenting to people for SO LONG and nobody has done it. It’s a completely different genre, but still amazing. Awesome beats. It’s got a crazy story and 3 beat changes throughout the whole song that change with the intensity of the lyrics. I’ll just leave it at the bottom of this comment in hopes you both may react to it😊). Murs - Walk Like a Man

I bought this CD when it first came out because of the first released song on it (Bring me to Life). Wasn't long after that, my mom lost her year and half battle with leukemia. This song was cathartic for me afterward. I would play this song while driving and sing and cry. It pulled me through a very rough time because I watched my mother slowly die from her treatments. Hardest thing I've ever been through. I was there as she took her last breath. Had it not been for this song, I don't think I could have coped with that loss.

I use to be an emt. In 2016 while transporting a patient we got in a bad wreck on Interstate 695 outside Baltimore MD. My driver hit a pickup than I watched the semi behind us hit us. I thought I was dead and would never see my wife or kid again (have 2 now). This song now has a different meaning. I will neither be mentally or physically same again. I cry every time now.
