You have legitimately taken this song to an entirely greater level - not merely a "new" level, but a "greater" level. The meaning is so much more consistent with the original story and tighter too. It was simply mesmerizing. Great job you two! By the way, I found this because it posted as an advertisement to an Andrew Klaven video. Not sure why or how it could show up as an advertisement. Batsheeba and King David became in the contemporary culture the allegory of true love. Carefull reading of the second Book of Samuel and the first Book of Kings could prove otherwise. King David abused his power not only sending his friend and elite knight Uriah the Hetite to death. Batsheeba, in the circumstances, could not object. Batsheeba's version made me think - food for thought. Thank you!

The song is wrong in many places. First of all, he didn’t see her in “daylight broad” he saw her in the evening. Secondly, Bathsheba knew she was near the palace. People are always aware of how close they are to their monarch, especially in an ancient culture of honor. Let’s read this in the lens of an ancient Israelite shame/honor culture: Bathsheba knew she could be seen and sought to raise her status. David sinfully slept with her (the text never says it was forced, even though 2 Samuel is very clear when others are raped). Gossip likely traveled and when Uriah returned home, he refused to go to his home and sleep with his wife (his exact words). Instead he slept with his men by the gate to demonstrate his honor. For this he was killed, and just when David thought he was in the clear, the prophet came and declared judgement. So why are we singing about the tragic failing of this redeemed Saint? David was a great sinner and the Lord is a great savior. Why aren’t you instead singing of David’s heartfelt repentance that he wrote in the Psalms?

Given that the song, by Leonard Cohen, is very Jewish in nature, I don't really like adding in the Jesus stuff there. There is plenty in the rich complex stories of the Torah without coopting Cohen's words into a different religion. I do like the rest of what you did, highlighting how dark David's tale really is in a more explicit way.
