I think her powers weren't really shown mostly because she doesn't have a grasp on them yet. In the movie they say that a witch should have completed their training by the time they're Marnies age, but because of her mother she never had training for her powers and risks losing them because of it. Her mom even says (I think in this movie or the 2nd) that Marnie used to show a lot of signs of having powers too when she was Sophie's age but her mom always suppressed them. Lowkey don't blame Marine for being upset or "whiney" her mom purposefully kept their witch heritage a secret and she would've kept them from their powers too which would've made them mortal.

@Elisa Castro still, keeping her from Halloween *was* keeping her from her heritage (and also just fun in general) being a kid it's pretty reasonable to be upset when your parents won't let you have fun with friends that's how kids are. Also, no i don't agree her mom had no right to not tell her children about their heritage, because she basically chose for them to not have their powers, which obviously Marnie wanted her powers. If she was worried about handling the kids like that on her own she could've at least waited for them to be older to train them, but even then she didn't do that she was going to wait until their powers were gone completely so they could be mortal.

Elisa Castro well actually all kids have a right to be angry. They’re human. She truly loved Halloween and spooky things (come to find out it’s in her blood) and to be completely denied of what she enjoys even though the rest of the world seems to get to is unfair. Especially to a young girl. Her mom didn’t even explain WHY. Her mom could have said no magic but still allow some Halloween fun like toys candy and pumpkins. I’m not denying that the mom was doing her best either or that the mom was even wrong, but marnie has every right to feel upset too. I just realized that Marnie is the same character as Jen from Dark Crystal. Jen isn't whinny and he is a guy, but they both only do one thing that is helpful (despite being the Chosen Ones) and it requires putting a thing into it's place, while their ally helps more, has cool abilities unlike the other and should be the actual main character. In Halloweentown, Sophie has all this witch powers and can use spell unlike Marnie, while in Dark Crystal, Qira (Jen's ally) can summon creatures and is able to fly and they both contributed to the plot more than Marnie and Jen. There is only one difference between Sophie and Qira and that's the way they got rewarded for their efforts. Sophie gets her credit stolen by Marnie, while Qira gets stabbed and nearly dies.

I actually just rewatched the first three I didn’t find them bad. I didn’t really find Marnie to be annoying she was just acting like a normal teen. I guess they have a special place in my heart so it’s hard to paint them in a bad picture. To me as a kid these movies felt longer. But as I watched it recently the plot feels rushed. I never realized how short they were just clocking around an 1hr 30 min roughly. I think another reason that made me love this movies was because of the really cool costumes.
