I think the reason the CG still holds up is the same why it still kinda does in Toy Story: you can easily do plastic in CG because anything made of plastic IRL already has a smooth fake look to it. thats the reason why realistic CGI faces are hard to do and fall into the uncanney valley quite easily. plus the stiff jerkiness of the stop-motion underneath the CG also works very well since you would imagine that would be the way a plastic toy with less articulation than, lets say, something organic, would move IRL. I think the concept of the movie actually saved the FX team a lot of money lol.

Actually, the “turning military tech into consumerism products” may sound crazy, but is pretty much what has happened, (from what I gather). Such as Jeeps, duct tape, GPS, the internet, and microwaves. Pretty certain there are a bunch of other stuff too. Of course, the movie exaggerates these elements to a higher extreme.
@kingme4201
@kingme4201 2 жыл бұрын
you have it backwards actually. what usually happens is a scientific discovery or an invention will be made and after time passes someone will see its use for war. GPS started out as a way of mapping things of course. interestingly enough something like Velcro was made as a examination of dog hair and burr clinging to each other, later on NASA would use it to tie things down in space. even something as everyday as X-ray technology made for the purpose of medicine was eventually used in airports. the list goes on, even as far back as discovering black powder in china ,which as you know, now we have automatic gas powered weapons. when you think about it a little it is really cool how something simple can have 100s of uses later on.

Joe type toys coming to life (maybe with a little less murderous intent towards basically everything) and going on some kind of mission through our world for whatever the reason would be. I was gonna say, this doesn't seem like a kids movie and to be honest, I'm not sure what rating would be right for it.

I remember my boys wanting to watch this movie when they were little. Oh boy, yeah it wasn't the best idea. They loved it. I found it a but creepy. Well done movie though, great graphics.

As a kid growing up in the late 90s early 2000s I can agree, this movie terrified me as well

I remember Small Soldiers, damn you! I watched it when I was 9, same year as me playing Dead Space 1 for the first time.

Glad this video exists to reinforce that I was not the only child traumatized by this movie! I flipped between thinking this movie was a fever dream and it being real for years

This is one of my "fever dream" movies... I vaguely remembered it from when I was a kid, but no one else seemed to know what I was talking about. So nice to see it really exists.

Fun fact, when I was 5 this was the favorite movie of both me and my dad, and he would wake me up super early in the morning so we could watch it together before my mom would wake up since she hated it. That's one of my earliest memories
